Nice hotel but not perfect, especially in rainy season (we stayed October).
Location is great. Near to a few nice shops and steps from the beach, the whole place is nicely designed. We had a brilliant greeting and the lady (Alina?) that showed us around was amazing.
The rooms are nice but note there’s ZERO soundproofing from rain, as they have corrugated plastic roofs all around and presumably above. So when it rains, it’s LOUD and sleep was poor during our stay.
But the rooms are nicely designed otherwise and well equipped.
The plunge pool was freezing so so kind of unusable.
The restaurant was nice, and great location, but the menu is reasonably limited and the service was a mix. The female staff were generally great, the male staff a bit hit and miss - felt a bit ‘macho’ at times. Two nights a lovely waitress ran around doing everything with a smile and seemingly looking after everyone while male colleagues stood around. Also note this is really the only communal space, so if it’s raining you’re here or in your room.
There’s a nice pool. Again a bit fresh, but due to rain there was rarely anywhere to sit even in sunny dry spells as loungers were often left covered or were soaked through underneath anyway. Some normal chairs would have been a good addition plus some extra towels (rather than up at reception!). Also zero pool service. I think someone asked us once if we wanted a drink - we’d been swimming or around the pool half a day.
The front of house staff were also hit and miss after the incredible welcome. Some were helpful. Others - especially if they didn’t understand English - would just look away and ignore you and go back to talking to their colleagues. Similarly the phone would get hung up if they didn’t understand rather than just explain they couldn’t understand. Both of these didn’t fit with the vibe of the place and left a bad taste.
The beach is incredible. But there’s no lifeguards nearby and it’s pretty wild / rough and the currents are strong. It’s a fair walk down to the lifeguard area and they didn’t inspire huge confidence. Also on the beach there’s lots of debris and rubbish at times, and unlike other hotels we stayed at, the hotel doesn’t maintain the area in front all that well. You can collect rubbish and get a reward of a smoothie but we did about six buckets during our stay and never found a way to redeem. It’s a nice idea though - it’s not the hotels fault the sea is full of plastic but they could do more to back up the guests efforts. Also there were a few random characters on the beach some days that made us feel uneasy and we never sensed any hotel security (unless it was expertly hidden).
Yoga was nice. Bit of roulette with the mosquitos but lovely setting otherwise.
One other note - it’s a beach hotel but they’ve put down a horrible sharp gravel on many paths so you can’t easily walk barefoot. Strange choice.
What actually made the place most special was the Concierge. The girls there were brilliant, beyond amazing, and really made the place. Without them it would have been a different experience.
So a very nice place but one for the dry season definitely and there’s certainly room for improvement all round.
