We did not stay here. We stopped on the way home from walking the Samaria gorge. The 2 waitresses and the owner were so friendly! A beautiful building, the toilets were spotless and smelled amazing! The decorations (a wheelbarrow with dried flowers) were gorgeous! We shared a Cretan salad with some sides, very happy with our food and very reasonably priced! 10/10, I would recommend to anyone! Many thanks!!

This is a gem of a hotel, perfect for hiking the Samaria Gorge. Yes, it is basic but the rooms are bright and airy and we had a lovely balcony with a mountain view. They offer a mini bus to the start of the Samaria Gorge walk, and the bus stops right outside on the return journey. The food was excellent, especially the moussaka and the breakfast was plentiful, just the job before a day of hiking. Great, friendly service!

A charming hotel in the peaceful location of Omalos. The staff and owner were friendly and helpful, with a free shuttle to the start of Samaria gorge in the morning. We walked around the plateau to the lake also, which was very peaceful. The home cooked evening meal was excellent and the breakfast nice. A couple of things in the rooms could be replaced (our shower curtain was an actual curtain!), but this didn't effect our stay. Top tip, the rooms on the first floor at the back gave the best views of the mountains, with lots of birds flitting around the trees. A great, quiet and relaxing couple of nights.

Great hotel on the Omalos plateau. Wonderful, romantic setting. It is nice and cool in the mountains, even in summer. We loved our stay here. The hotel also has a free shuttle to Xyloskalos, 6 minutes away, for those hiking the Samaria Gorge. The rooms are a bit dated and rustic, but charming. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was okay, although there were limited gluten-free options.

Been here two nights for hikes within the region. The rooms are easy but very cozy, the owners are so friendly and heartwarming. They are always open to provide hiking routes and insights. Food is very good too and perfect location for hikes within the region

Omalos Plateau is a haven for those looking for serenity. I spent five nights in August at this lovely hotel and spent my days with short walks around the plateau accompanied by the tranquil sound of sheep bells and beautiful Mount Gingilos in the background. Vultures were soaring over the south side hills every time I passed. Country roads with little traffic provide access to nice and relaxed walks. Hiking trails are many and they are full of loose rocks and pebbles, bring steady shoes! The kindness of the staff and the excellent food at the hotel has already been mentioned. Some details in the room were in need of maintenance and I missed hooks to hang my clothes, but everything else more than weighed up for these very minor inconveniences. If you're heading for Samaria Gorge, Neos Omalos Hotel and the plateau is well wort a night extra or two. I can't wait to come back <3

This is Crete Hospitality at its best! A great family run place with people who genuinely care about their guests. I cannot recommend this place enough. The welcome you get as you walk through the door continues for all your stay. They go out of their way to ensure that guests have the best time. Their local advice was greatly appreciated for all the hiking around the area. Helping us with drop offs both for us and our luggage when the gorge was closed was so kind. A lovely choice of food for the evening meals all home made with local produce. A great brekky to get you going for the day and picnic lunches available too brilliant as no shops in Omalos! Rooms are simple and clean with a small balcony too. A nice terrace to relax on after a days hiking with a cold beer. Thank you to all the team for a great 3 night stay, for us it was perfect.

An absolutely surprising and memorable experience. The hotel is completely off the beaten path — you have to want to go there. And we did, because our goal was to stay somewhere remote, far from civilization and crowds. And we got exactly that. But what truly surprised us was the incredible atmosphere of hospitality and the unique charm of travel from decades past. I can’t quite explain it, but we felt fantastic there — as if we had taken a journey back in time. Surrounded by peace and quiet, with warm and welcoming staff, good food at the hotel, tasty breakfast, and a large free parking area. It's close to the entrance of the Samaria Gorge, and there’s a bus connection right from the hotel. The room was spacious enough, comfortable, with basic furnishings. The bathroom was like many you find in Cretan accommodations, and there was a small balcony.
