As a foreign tourist, we were excited but a bit nervous to try out the Japanese style tatami room. The staff were very nice and we found the room to have a bit of old-school charm, but it was clean and the futon were comfortable. I'm a light sleeper and even though the hotel is right next to the tracks (we were in the new wing), I was able to sleep fine with earplugs. I would stay here again!

The New Kamakura Hotel gives you the experience of 1900s Japan in terms of furniture and ambience as well as the choice of Western or Japanese style rooms. The toilets and bathrooms are shared but lockable so you need only be present with another guest when washing hands at the hand basin. The staff are friendly and helpful but payment is in cash. Breakfast is ¥600. An electric kettle is supplied but the water in the hand basin is pre-mixed hot and cold so I didn't want to drink it. Other than that, it was delightful. It's very near the station and so it's convenient. I would go there again for the experience.

All things mentioned in the previous reviews are true, however it is not easy l ready to find an affordable place to spend the night in Kamakura at walking distance from the station. We had a pleasant stay: friendly staff, noise from the station but not intrusive, our wash was done and dried for us, beer can be bought from the machine, a bath and toilet in the room, the room was made if you asked for it, towels were tefreshed if you asked for it and it is very close to the station and restaurants. |It is not expensive for this area, we paid 11000yen per night. |Only critical point is the bed, it is pretty small so you have to like each other ☺. The duvet etc. was also simple but clean.

OK the hotel is just 2 min away from the railway station, OK the design of the rooms (western wing) is pretty nice but really not practical! no one shelf where to put clothes or toilet stuff, poor quality of towels, no reception, room is not made up every day AND ... you are at parking level, which means that you have to keep the blind close for a minimum of privacy!!! for !130/150 euros is really too much, avoid it!

This is a nice hotel, with nice bi-lingual staff. However, you will not have a good night's rest here. We could hear everything from our room at night. Slamming doors, crying babies, people walking up and down the steps. The staff must have been working into the evening, as we could hear dishes clanging and other movement in the kitchen/washroom. The tatami-mat rooms are uncomfortable. Our room was the Sasami room. In addition, the price was too high for the quality. We stayed at a hostel the evening before that we would consider before the Hotel New Kamakura.

Having a taste for "historic" hotels I talked my wife into staying here when we visited Kamakura. The room was in the western building, downstairs and had a bath. Very, very small, clean, bed was not all that comfortable. But the location is only a block from the Kamakura train station so it is exceptionally convenient. Yes, it is "historic" but bear in mind it has not been updated much since heck was a pup.||||I do not have any information regarding Japanese style rooms.||||But there are very few hotels in Kamakura since most visitor come down from Tokyo just for the day. Your other option is to stay in Odawara where there are more and more up to date hotels.

Stayed 2 nights visiting Kamakura after my wife had to fly home for work. Stayed in hi daring room, golden hued crosswoven tatami floor, antique wooden desk, Scandinavian inspired blonde wood panels on one wall, ditto colored block pattern across bottom of futon n refrigerator closet sliding door. Warning steep stairs to 2nd floor. Lovely 2nd floor washroom and modern WC. 2 slow bath rooms on ground floor. I was in old building so can't speak for new wing. Has both Western and Japanese style rooms. Reminds me of General Lewis Inn in Lewisburg WVa, my touchstone for old hotels

Comfortable and very clean room. We stayed in a Japanese type room and loved it. No WiFi on the new wing where we stayed which was the only complain we had. I wish I could give 4.5 because of that. The breakfast from Siblings is excellent.
