Very welcoming and attentive staff. Room is very modern, clean and spacious. The shared bath is nice and a bit small, but nice that it was empty when we went around 5:30pm. They also have a roof bath and need to pay to access. Food is quite amazing, multiple courses and takes about 90 min. Nice location, right next to Nara park.

We had a wonderful time at this ryokan in February and rented the Special Tenpyo room. The private hot tub, sauna and cold dip were perfect to share with a loved one. Food menus for the dinner and breakfast were very well presented and quite delicious. The only criticism is from a western pallet that can't handle *some* types of raw fish and squid, but otherwise it was fantastic and there was a very nice variety of other flavours to enjoy. Rooms were beautiful in their traditional Japanese tatami style and the staff were all extremely friendly (and English friendly). We would happily come back on a future trip

Beautiful room with traditional style and a very warm, peaceful atmosphere. The staff were perfect : welcoming, friendly, and always helpful. Great view from the room, and it’s just a 7-minute walk from Nara Park (where you can see the deer). The hotel offers both public non-mixed onsen and private ones you can book, a really nice touch!

It was my first Ryokan stay and we had a great experience. The private rooftop onsen was a true highlight--watched the sun setting on a rainy day and it was wonderful. The staff were great, very kind and helpful. They accommodated our food requests and prepared a special vegan dinner, which was wonderful. The location is great, a short walk to all the attractions in Nara Park. They offered a free tour guide, but we declined. If we had one more day to spend, that would have been great to do.

Overall, we were disappointed with our experience, especially considering the positive reviews and photos we had seen beforehand. Upon arrival, we were unexpectedly charged 500 yen for parking simply because we arrived two hours before check-in. Additionally, we paid 4,000 yen for a 50-minute session in a small onsen that unfortunately did not meet expectations — the water was not clean and contained black particles. We’ve had far better experiences elsewhere at a much lower cost.

We had the most wonderful stay at Hotel New Wakasa. It felt like so much tradition was still part of this ryokan. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive. We loved the location - close to Nara Park - as well as other great areas. The city is so safe and very walkable so it’s fun to explore from this hotel. Honestly, one of the best sleep nights we had on our trip! We enjoyed both the onsen as well as our room’s outside bath (with a view!).

Really enjoyed this stay for our honeymoon. Everything you’d expect for a Ryokan - impeccable service from fantastic staff. We liked the omakase, dinner and breakfast. Loses a star only for the price, especially during cherry blossom season - quite pricy it was (approx £460 per night) during our stay. Walking distance to Nara park, but quite a distance from the railway station if you are coming from there - recommend a taxi.

This ryokan does not care about tattoos! I know that's a big thing for tourists because it was for us when looking at places to stay. Did not know that when we booked but were pleasantly surprised to find out we could use the public onsen, in addition to the private one in our room. The public onsen was small, but did not matter to us. Nice to soak after a long walks/hikes/traveling. Rooms were big, and comfortable. Staff were friendly, and welcoming. Meals were pretty good, and I was full from both dinner and breakfast meals. Was about a 10 minute walk to Nara Park, temple and a 15 minute walk from the train station/main Street. My only complaint was that they tried to charge us for a private bath our group did not book. Just double check your receipt. Once they realized they were mistaken, they took it off our bill. No issues. Would definitely stay here again.
