Hotel New Wakasa

My family and I booked 2 rooms, both with a private bath inside. Both rooms were spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. I especially liked the room which had wood panel walls as they gave a calming atmosphere. The amenities given such as drinks and toiletries were plentiful and had even provided local traditional snacks everyday on the table for us, which were delicious. The room provided us with a full experience on the Japanese traditional life. There were even yukata provided as the sleepwear. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, explaining everything. The elderly gentleman who greeted us when we arrived was very kind and we felt very welcomed by them. Staff were very attentive and respected the fact that we were uncomfortable with raw fish for our meals and made sure it was not included after I called ahead of time to inform them. The Japanese style breakfast provided were delicious and flavourful, letting us enjoy a traditional Japanese breakfast. There was also a western style breakfast option as well. The interior of the hotel was decorated very nicely and even have quite a few deer decor laying around and even has stained glass at the entrance. Worth the money and will definitely come back if I come to Nara again.

Hotel New Wakasa was one of the most memorable highlights of my trip to Nara. The hotel is located just a two-minute walk from Nara Park with its famous deer, which makes the location truly special. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by impressive interior installations and thoughtfully designed decor that immediately capture your attention. Guests here are treated like long-time friends. The staff genuinely care and take time to introduce you to every aspect of staying at the hotel, as well as to the city itself. The room was simply perfect and beautiful in every way. Refined minimalism and softness in every detail create a deep sense of calm and comfort. I especially loved the traditional onsen and the cozy rooftop terrace with a wonderful view. Breakfast was exceptionally delicious and truly authentic, featuring local Japanese dishes. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always happy to help with recommendations and advice. A perfect choice for those looking for a balance of comfort, atmosphere, and genuine Japanese hospitality.

Very welcoming and attentive staff. Room is very modern, clean and spacious. The shared bath is nice and a bit small, but nice that it was empty when we went around 5:30pm. They also have a roof bath and need to pay to access. Food is quite amazing, multiple courses and takes about 90 min. Nice location, right next to Nara park.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I can't speak for the food as I had a room only booking but the facilities were were good, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable and everything was clean. I also liked that our room had a separate toilet and shower as well as a private onsen. The deer theme was echoed throughout the building and the design was a wonderful mixture of traditional and contemporary design. I would recommend.

Most amazing property, such warm staff. We loved the place! Our room had a private bath. If we ever visit Nara again, this is the property we will definitely stay at.

Very convenient location. Polite staffs and they can speak English a little bit, which is nice. Nice decor. Room is clean and futon/ pillow are comfortable. Delicious breakfast. Nice in room wooden hot tub.

We had a wonderful time at this ryokan in February and rented the Special Tenpyo room. The private hot tub, sauna and cold dip were perfect to share with a loved one. Food menus for the dinner and breakfast were very well presented and quite delicious. The only criticism is from a western pallet that can't handle *some* types of raw fish and squid, but otherwise it was fantastic and there was a very nice variety of other flavours to enjoy. Rooms were beautiful in their traditional Japanese tatami style and the staff were all extremely friendly (and English friendly). We would happily come back on a future trip

It’s very near toudaiji & Nara park. However it’s little bit far from the Nara Kintetsu station, it would take about 15-20 minutes by walking. The room & building are extremely clean.I recommend the top level of the hotel, you can see the beautiful view and there would be an exotic atmosphere at night.
