Great hotel; slightly dated but that’s part of the charm. Amazing building. Good breakfast. Only reason it isn’t a 5 stars from me is because we tried to have a drink in the bar (not the exclusive, need to book downstairs one just the normal main bar) but there was a huge queue (despite several empty tables) and we were told that despite being hotel guests we had to wait alongside the non guests. Wouldn’t expect to have to do that. Otherwise great.

We visited for my husband’s birthday with a reservation for four, which included a welcome glass of champagne. The booking process was very smooth—quick replies and easy confirmation, which gave us a great first impression. Unfortunately, the experience at the restaurant itself didn’t quite live up to expectations. When we arrived, the staff member who welcomed us didn’t seem to check the reservation properly, so we were seated without being offered the welcome champagne. While waiting, two different staff members came to ask for drink orders, creating confusion. I eventually spoke with a more experienced team member who acknowledged the communication error and handled it professionally. Our assigned waiter after that point was excellent—friendly, attentive, and communicative. The gentleman who seemed to be supervising also handled the situation well and showed genuine care. The food, however, was a letdown. My tuna steak came too raw, despite requesting it medium, and my daughter didn’t finish her chicken. While the lentils and starters were enjoyable, the main courses didn’t stand out. On top of that, the temperature inside was uncomfortably warm, which added to our decision to skip dessert and leave earlier than planned. We had requested a candle in advance to celebrate the occasion, and while we didn’t stay for dessert, the team kindly brought it out anyway—a thoughtful gesture we appreciated. Overall, while the restaurant positions itself as a laid-back brasserie, I believe this iconic location deserves consistently high-quality service and well-prepared, simple dishes that leave guests saying, “We have to come back.”

Google
A memorable experience at Hotel New York cafe / Restaurant Rotterdam I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful spot with my PhD supervisor and colleagues for dinner, and it was truly special. We shared the seafood platter, which was fresh and satisfying, but the real highlight was the venue itself. Housed in a stunning heritage building with rich history, Hotel New York carries a charm that elevates the entire experience. A must-visit while in Rotterdam — not just for the food, but for the atmosphere and story the place tells.

Perfect. Room was ready at 8:00 - quite a treat after a long transatlantic flight. Room was very comfortable, spotless, and quiet. Restaurant is excellent. The entire staff is 5 star.

Google
I had a wonderful stay at Hotel New York in Rotterdam! This historic hotel has so much charm, and the atmosphere takes you back to the golden age of travel. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and truly went out of their way to be helpful. My room was clean and tastefully decorated with vintage accents that added to the experience. definitely request a room with a view of the river. The basement restaurant was a real highlight—the steak I had was honestly one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Outside, the café has a stunning view of the Maas River and is perfect for relaxing with a drink or a bite to eat. Just a heads-up: the entrance from the street to the lobby has about 10 steps and no elevator or ramp, so you’ll need to carry your luggage up. Aside from that, everything was excellent. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely evening, we reserved well in advance and could sit outside with the lovely weather. We had a group dinner with menu choice. All was well except the meat was a bit cold I heard from the group. That can be improved. thanks!!

Google
Nice Hotel in a strategic location for Rotterdam. It's clean, cofortable and well designed. If you like concept hotels this is cool! Some rooms are quite small, but I like the option to choose the location of the room during check-in (and nice option to do it on a tablet, eventually with a smart support by the hotel team). If you need parking at hotel parking, better to ask during reservation to get the place.

Google
The room was relatively comfortable, and the service was great. There were a group of people hanging around outside the side of the hotel smoking/drinking/being loud from 21:00-23:00, but once they left, it was a good night’s sleep. Breakfast and dinner were also tasty. Part of the hotel had nice views.

Yelp
We had heard great things about this iconic restaurant and were in the area on a ship for just a few hours. It was my birthday and I was excited to go for a celebratory lunch. The atmosphere was fun with high open ceilings and big windows. The host sat us close to a window for a great view of both the restaurant and outside. Our waiter was prompt to take our drink order. I had an Aperol Spritz and it was perfect. My husband tried a local beer and enjoyed it. For lunch I had the tomato soup and the grilled ham & cheese sandwich- which was delicious. Was a wonderful experience.

Yelp
After many visits to The Netherlands, I finally made a day trip to Rotterdam. Much of this vital port city has cutting edge modern architecture. Due to the damage the city endured during the World War, they had to start anew. That's not to say there are no historic areas remaining. Quite the opposite, and one of the architectural gems is the Hotel New York, which served as the original headquarters for Holland America Line, which celebrates its 150th Anniversary as the oldest cruise line. The current hotel and restaurant also function as a small museum that you can wander through on the main floor. It is done subtly and tastefully, and takes you on a journey from a long time ago. I wanted to see this historic building and have lunch before continuing on my exploration of Rotterdam. Service was relaxed and friendly and professional. I opted for the tasty Steak Sandwich on my server's recommendation. Along with a beer, it was perfect.

Yelp
Review for the hotel New York Terrace restaurant only. The staff was super friendly and so kind. The food was outstanding and the ambience was wonderful. We ate outside right by the little park and waterway canal. You must try the bittenballs. They were fabulous and such an iconic dish for the Netherlands. So crunchy on the outside, but smooth on the inside, and the mustard is a perfect accompaniment. My husband's steak and prawn dish was excellent and cooked perfectly. The additional side salad was wonderful with a nice light dressing. My salmon dish was also wonderful, cooked perfectly and moist. We were very fortunate, the weather was perfect that day, a little on the warm side it was a perfect day to sit outside and have an amazing meal! If you're in the area, especially to catch a cruise nearby, it's definitely a place to try!

Yelp
Cool place to visit the old terminal station for many European immigrants headed to NYC. Now a converted hotel and great place to dine after a long walk. Take the water taxi to or from if you're pooped.

Yelp
Great oysters but the rest of the food is very below par. The service however was absolutely horrendous. Had to beg for attention and the waitress was completely uninterested in doing her job. Sadly, ironically and hopefully, the one waitress who was very good and understood the concept of service was the waitress who was there on her first day.

Yelp
I had a bike rental from Zwaan Bikes Amsterdam and biked here after spending an afternoon biking thru the windmills of Kinderdijk. I only heard of Hotel New York in 2016 from the KLM Delft Blue House when flying Business to IST. The ride from the Water Bus over time Hotel New York was a cinch. I locked my bike (yes, I'm from California) and was able to get seating immediately on a Monday. After a weekend in Antwerp and riding Kinderdijk, it was nice to enjoy my beverage along with the fantastic city of Rotterdam. After my visit, it was time to head back to Zwaan to return my bike and head over to my accommodations at CityHub.

Yelp
One of the most iconic buildings in Rotterdam, and the interior and views are lovely. The food is Dutch basic, so not the reason you would come but perfectly OK. The service staff is invariably bored, borderline rude and comes across as poorly trained, which really drives down the experience. Hotel New York would benefit from trying to make the most of its icon status, instead of relying on it.

Nuvara U.

Yelp
Might worth going there only in winter time where the ventilation is good ( if that might be the case ) . We went there in summer time , reserved a table and then found out that they serve basis first come first served . It was like a tea garden and the welcomers at the entrance was not so friendly . I wish we didnt gp there for such a regular food and spend that much momey .

Yelp
We sat outside which was wonderful! Even though the outdoor dining area was extremely busy, our server gave us great service. I had tuna which was prepared rare and perfectly seasoned....just the way I like it! Another member of our party had the Vega bowl, which she raves about. I ended my meal with a French coffee....OMG, delish!

Yelp
We've had several very good experiences here, but today was disappointing. I believe they are training new servers who are trying their best and that's understandable after COVID. But the food was really not at the level we've had before.

Yelp
Of course, I would fly from New York to Europe and go have lunch at a place called Hotel New York. Of course. I was torn between here and Las Palmas, but settled on Hotel NY because their lunch menu (and raw bar selection) was way better. Since I was just one person, getting a table only took 5 minutes. The place is HUGE. I was lucky enough to snag a table by the window, with a view of the river and an opportunity to people watch. The service was actually a bit slow, so in hindsight, it was the only thing keeping me from going crazy with hunger. I started out with the creuses (oyster) taster, which was a half dozen oysters (2 each of 3 kinds) for €19.50. A little pricey, but I justified it with their super affordable lunch menu. The oysters were Fines de Claires, Zeeland and Papillons. The fines de claires were my favorites. Tiny little medallions with great body and a little brine. The Zeelands were also good, and way meatier. Wasn't a huge fan of the Papillons, however. For my entree, I went with the €13 chef's lunch special, which was two types of breads topped with three different preparations of fish. The sliced bread came with a salmon croquette and tuna salad, while the blini (a flat bread) came with smoked salmon. The croquette and the blini were the best parts. The tuna salad was just standard tuna salad, and the smoked salmon was good, but probably lost something from being smoked. I guess if they were going for a New York theme, it was akin to lox. All in all, it was a fine meal but not a must-do. Go for the seafood if you're planning to be in the area.

Yelp
We arrived by Holland America Cruise Ship so we were just down the street. Since we were there for 2 days we decided we should take the time to eat here and see the artifacts since this was once the Collard America Headquarters. Make sure you tour the various rooms before you go to eat. They have some very interesting stuff. It was a gorgeous day so we decided to eat outside. We had a very nice table with a great view of the harbor and partially shaded. Our server was very helpful and gave us great service. We ordered the Kibbeling for a starter and the bucket of Mussels to share. With a cold local beer the food was delicious. The atmosphere made for a very enjoyable afternoon and the free wifi was very useful.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant, it's close to one of the biggest harbors of the world and with that comes some nice fish. The restaurant serves some very good fish, you have an oyster bar, some lovely shellfish and your regular numbers like tuna and salmon. There is a variety of choices. I might not have tasted them all but I'm pretty damn sure they all taste lovely. When I was here I thought it was very warm in there, however experience may vary on that. Service was ok, Dutch people are quite familiar with English, it might not be pretty but they'll understand just fine. The restaurant is near a big parking lot near the local cinema so don't worry about parking. Since it's not theirs you'll have to pay, it's not too much really. Let's talking about the view and history, this place has some great history, about the real start of New Amsterdam which later became New York. You'll see some nice paintings/pictures and the view, if you're sitting next to the window, is quite nice. TL;DR, great restaurant to eat in Rotterdam, would recommend.

Yelp
Made reservations for a family of four and was seated at a table by the window. Nice view of the water and the bridge. Three of us ordered the set menu (starter, main, dessert). One requested french bread with herb butter starter and small plate shrimp pasta. There must of been a miscommunication with the server because an order of pulled bread with three spreads and salmon with shrimp pasta arrived to the table. We were hungry so we didn't correct the original request. The Caesar salad, Salmon croquettes, Lamb, Sea Bass, Salmon Shrimp pasta and the Panna Cotta were all delicious and well presented. Our favorites were the Salmon croquettes and the Panna Cotta desserts.

Yelp
Yes, Hotel New York is a bit touristy, but I really enjoyed visiting! The building is beautiful with spacious seating inside and outside. The view from Hotel New York is of the Rotterdam skyline and the Erasmusbridge - doesn't get much better while you're in Rotterdam. I took the advice from friends and tried the oysters - delicious! If you've never been in Rotterdam, or will only be there for the day, I definitely recommend visiting. You'll be able to take in a beautiful view and delicious food.

Yelp
Planned a day out in Rotterdam and decided to have lunch here... Best. Choice. Ever! The seafood is just amazing: fresh and mouthwatering even looking at it. The staff is really friendly and the building and its interior is just as amazing. Great job, guys! I'm seriously bummed that I do not live near Rotterdam, otherwise I would go here a lot more. But I will certainly go back to hotel New York in Rotterdam! :D

Yelp
Perfect position. Food is good... not so good to get a 5 stars. The location is ALL about it... especially on a nice sunny day when you can enjoy the terrace.... this place is at the extreme of the Wilhelminapier ... if not windy and sunny is perfect!! If the weather is not great.. you can enjoy anyway the spacious lofty dining room inside. Plenty of space.. really big... it covers the whole hotel ground floor... it is almost like being inside a boat. It is touristic ... yes. If you get there in a winter afternoon, best is to order a nice high tea... served with all the whistles and widgets... very well done.. not cheap. The rest of the food is average but I never got dissatisfied. Service is average... not the fastest.. but over all fine. Lot of students. I never stop at the hotel but is a very well known first night wedding place for Rotterdammers :) Easy to reach.. by metro from the station, you just walk to the end of the pier, or by water taxi from the other side of the Maas river... I prefer this way :) The whole area had been renovated so you can enjoy also a walk around to look at the new buildings. The story.... this was the Hotel people were used to stay at the night before boarding on the trans Atlantic ships to get to the US (Holland America line).

Yelp
What a location! What a view! Sit outside in the sun, protected from the wind, and watch the people and big boats go by. Enjoy some fish, beer, and wine! We had mussels in Pernod sauce and the poke bowl. Generous servings and good food, with very reasonable prices for everything but the over-the-top lobster options. The service was very friendly and prompt. Three people asked us for our order! We had a show to go to and our waiter got us taken care of easily on time.
google avatar

Anne Marie R.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by locals and although the food was good the service was not. Our waiter could not have been more rude disrespectful and arrogant. Never checked on us to see if we needed anything and then when we called him over he was annoyed and gave us a hard time. I would never go back or recommend
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
Great location with a lot of history. The interior looks very hip and artistic. Where once the famous 'Holland-America'-cruise ships took off has now been converted into a hotel-restaurant with a huge terras. Great for sunny days! Quick service and good burgers.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm only reviewing this hotel as a place to get a drink since I've never stayed here or ate here. It's nice to have drinks here both inside and outside. Outside they have tables and chairs and also have some nice loungy chairs out in the grass looking out into the harbor.

Yelp
Me and my hubby met for our first date here years ago. This place brought us beautiful memories. Every time we go back to the Netherlands, we will try to book at least a dinner here. The building is surrounded by the water. You can come to the restaurant by water taxi. The indoor architecture looks like dining on a ship. Service is excellent. Friendly and quick. +++I loved their plateau fruit de mer, they have plenty choices of fresh oysters. Fine Claires, Zeuse creuses, Normandy, wulken...and much more. Their signature vinegar shallots sesame oil goes perfectly with the raw oysters. +++Lamb chop is tender and juicy. +++The chocolate cake is creamy, smooth and very chocolaty. Mouthwatering when I even think of it. Thank you for the wonderful service and we really enjoyed it.

Yelp
I went here for lunch with my husband and our friend in late April. We walked here from the tram station after our trip up the Aeromast. We were seated immediately. Luckily, we didn't visit during peak-tourist season and didn't require reservations. We started off with the cocktail of avocado and Dutch shrimp. It was very fresh and the avacado dip was amazingly. It was my first time having the Dutch shrimp, they are small and smoked, but plentiful and delicious. I had the catfish fillet, husband had the falafel burger, and friend had the nicoise. Everything is reasonably priced. To add, there were many girls there for the tea party. It is a good place to take friends for a nice day out. Our waitress was really nice and spoke English very well.

Yelp
Hotel New York is a cool spot to eat. It's an older building, so it really stands out amongst the more modern structures. The views of the river are great. The food isn't bad at all, but the views are better. Why is there even a restaurant called Hotel New York in Rotterdam?
google avatar

Jas S.

Yelp
Classic case of coming to Rotterdam and arriving by water taxi. The food made me believe in the culinary arts again. Fresh seafood is the staple of this place. It is a quality product at a reasonable price. Don't think twice, this is your place.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
I love this restaurant, it's all about the location here. The port of Rotterdam is considered to be one of the largest ports in Europe. Rotterdam definitely has a lot of harbor stories to offer ones inquisitive mind. There is a lot of history in this port and good food as well. I was very much interested in visiting a classical restaurant, which provided a significant amount of history. Hotel New York Restaurant was an ideal place for me to romanticize about history, since I am a historian. We enjoyed a lovely boat ride over to the restaurant in a water taxi. My Dutchman and I came here for a wonderful and delightful big seafood lunch! We enjoyed fresh shell fish, right from the oyster bar. It's the perfect place to indulge in oyster, that is if your a big seafood fan. This restaurant is sure to provide you with a memorable experience in the Netherlands.

Yelp
A restaurant and hotel with historical relations to the US where you can eat and sleep wonderfully! Menus keep changing to the season. Our standard hangout place for us as a family. Nice and tasteful food. If you like oisters, try them here! They're of good quality. Enjoy! The tables though are small and with a group of four there's not that much room. I'm 6 foot 4 (1,96m) and my family are almost the same size. So smaller people have an advantage here. It seems to be a challenge to serve coffee and a Grand Dessert together. So when I mentioned this to the waitress they gave a free coffee. Until next time!

Yelp
Love this place!! Location: Next to the water in Rotterdam, this restaurant has amazing views and wonderful outdoor picture ops. Ambiance: Although a popular spot for me local University crowd, this place is hip but manages to stay super classy! It's a really great place for just about everyone to enjoy. Menu: The menu selection is extensive but everything we've tried has been exceptional. History and store: This building has a long history since it was the port between Holland and New York City. At the gift shop you can get several great souvenirs and amazing wine to take home. Highly recommend!

Lela M.

Yelp
This review is only for the cafe here! Do not, I repeat, DO NOT COME HERE FOR COFFEE/DESERT!!! Absolutely horrible service!!!!!! HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! I'm writing this whole still sitting here with my extended family. We ordered 6 coffees, one grande platter, and one apple tart. After half hour and reminding them twice, they finally brought the order... minus one coffee and the apple tart. Then we reminded and they brought the sixth coffee. Then we reminded again and they brought the apple tart. Coffee was fine but the grande dessert is a joke: it consists of several tiny bite-size sweets. And costs 12+ Euros. But price aside, the service is what makes me say: never, never, never come here hoping you will get served as you should. Lots of guests means they simply don't care!

Yelp
Hotel New York is a fun restaurant with a great ambiance. The outside area is bordered by water and has a pleasant al fresco vibe. Inside is decidedly upscale with old wood trim and decor, but no so over the top as to be intimidating. We came here with two kids under five, and they were very welcome with the staff even bringing out kids menus and coloring place mats. The food was good but not quite as good as I'd been hoping for (this seems to be a refrain in Holland). Seafood and pasta appear to be the mainstays, and you're not likely to go too wrong if you stay with any of the main entree items.
google avatar

Yelp
I have not stayed here yet as it was fully booked but would consider going back to do so. Hotel New York is where people set sail for the Americas and an exciting adventure! This once- was port is a gorgeous Hotel with the old departure lounge clock in the reception and lots of quirky character. It is apparently hard to get a spot here for lunch or dinner as very popular but we were very lunch to get a spot around lunchtime on a Sunday - this ended up being half a lobster and mussels and chips. It was very nice and a great location with a lot of ambiance. I highly recommend visiting here, they also have a bar and even if you just tour the building its really worth seeing a place with such an exciting history. There were a few families having a special family lunch here too. You can almost still feel the excitement of the adventurers in the building.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch. Absolutely recommended! Interior. Food. View. Ambience. Even if you only have a day in Rotterdam (as I did), go to this place. You may do so by water taxi - to enhance the experience :)

Yelp
Service is almost OK! Oysters? This a place to be! Good finish with Grand Desert!

Yelp
I order sandwich, is pretty much ok and my boyfriend ordered burger, is also OK, only a little bit dry. We expect more juicy meat inside the burger. They should cook fresh made to order consider that they are international hotel.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere in this place! Very friendly staff, and always provide top notch food! All of the seafood was terrific, and of course any dessert you get here will be fantastic! Aye here several times this week, and I'll be returning for sure!

Yelp
Terrace outside, long waiting, lying in front on the grass or in the beachchairs maybe the best place, at least quick service cause you got to pick drinks&eats up yourself. Location is super, for 3 driks and a quick eat at terrace 4 waiter/waitresses come along what takes time and noone feels responsible

Nisse T.

Yelp
We had a fantastic evening with tuna fish and surf & turf. The atmosphere is outstanding in this old head office for the Holland-America line. The servise was excellent despite a large number of guests. Strongly recommended!

Stacey M.

Yelp
Went here in December for a group dinner. I was apprehensive, given the "cheesiness" of the website, but the food really was outstanding. Highly recommend the fruits de mer platters - we ordered 3 of them for our group of 15 people - definitely more than enough food, as we followed with meals and desserts. We walked out completely stuffed! The seafood was incredibly fresh and the other foods were great, too!
