The hotel, a former convent, is very interesting. Our room, on the first floor, had such a high ceiling that a mezzanine has been incorporated into it, making a double room into a family room as the mezzanine housed a double sofa bed. The room had a fantastic view of the river and Gaia opposite. |The bed, and pillows, were very comfortable but there were, in my opinion, too many cushions. I'm not a fan as I doubt that the covers would be changed, on the cushions, between each occupancy.|We were delighted to see that gowns and a slippers are provided and that there was ample wardrobe space. However, the wardrobe rail was so high that it was an effort to hang clothes up and I am 5"7" tall.|There was a good choice at breakfast of cold meats, cheese, pasties and cakes, cereals, yoghurts, pancakes, fresh fruits and cooked food and, as the restaurant overlooked the river, we could watch all manner of boats sailing by.|We were half-board and, whilst the food was beautifully cooked and presented, the menu doesn't change and we found ourselves repeating what we had chosen on previous evenings.|The rooftop bar is very pleasant and overlooks rooftops and the river to the fore, and a lovely courtyard to the rear.|The staff were very friendly and courteous, with excellent English.|Immediately in front of the hotel is the tram line (No. 1) and, whilst it was a novelty at first, eventually it became annoying.|The hotel is close to bus and tram stops making it an easy, and cheap (only €2.50 per ride regardless of distance) way to get around Porto.
