"What resembles an embassy or diplomatic enclave from the outside, with a stately façade by Juan de Villanueva (the architect better known for El Prado), is actually a bright and modern space inside. The decor of Hotel NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa may seem avant-garde, with minimalist furniture and statement lights—but one glance through the glass panels in the lobby floor will reveal the ruins of a 16th-century canal system below. No hotel takes sleep more seriously, thanks to two sets of interior room doors which keep unwanted hallway noise at bay. If you can, book one of the handfuls of duplex suites facing San Sebastian church, which have spacious living areas below and lovely bedrooms above."

NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa – Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? Located near Plaza Santa Ana, the stately NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa looks more like an official government building than a hotel. Inside, the mood shifts forward a couple of centuries to snazzy décor and mood lighting. Upscale yet approachable, the interiors are a clever blend of old and new, and it all works beautifully. What's the backstory? This 18th-century mansion was the work of Juan de Villanueva, the same architect who designed the Museo del Prado and the Plaza Mayor, and the hotel takes its name for the gentleman the structure was built for: Earl of Tepa, the last viceroy of Spain in Mexico. Part of the NH Collection, NH Hotel’s top-tier offering, the chain regularly transforms historic buildings into premium hotels—kudos to a job well done here. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? Guest rooms are minimalist and confidently unadorned—no knick-knacks or unnecessary decor, just the plush bed (with a cushioned headboard) front and center. Some of the pricier rooms on the top floor come with cathedral ceilings with a skylight. For lots of additional space, go for a duplex Family room or junior suite; avoid the cramped single rooms if you can. Bright bathrooms stock the hotel’s own brand of (somewhat forgettable) toiletries. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? There's free wifi throughout the hotel. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? The breakfast spread is epic: every imaginable Spanish cheese, overflowing platters of cured meats, and a la carte menu to boot. Arrive early to take advantage of it, then venture out into the neighborhood for the rest of your day's dining. And the service? Staffers here do a fantastic job. What type of travelers will you find here? Spanish and European guests know the brand well, but Americans would be smart to check it out, if only for the unique architecture. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? This chic abode is walkable to most major stops from the Plaza Mayor to Gran Vía. Take note of some of the modern artistic interpretations in the hallways here—you might spot the real version later in the Prado. Is there anything you'd change? It would be nice if Paco Roncero Restaurante, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, were actually inside the building. Still, you can charge meals to your room. Any other hotel features worth noting? NH Collection hotels tend to have ample gluten-free and vegetarian items on restaurant and room-service menus, and that's the case here. Additionally, don't miss the glass-covered exhibitions on the ground floor, which touch upon the 16th-century canal system below the hotel. Bottom line: Why should we stay here? For a glamorous old-meets-new hotel in a good part of town, this is an excellent choice." - Ramsey Qubein

The staff made us feel so very welcome to their hotel and to the city. They were extremely helpful and accommodating- couldn't have asked for a better experience. The room was charming, updated, spacious, clean and well stocked with everything we needed. We will be looking for other NH collection hotels to book in the future. Thanks for making our stay in Madrid great.

We absolutely loved the Hotel NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa, a beautiful hotel in a GREAT location. It is within walking distance to restaurants and tourist attractions. It also has an excellent breakfast buffet. From the moment we checked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. We absolutely loved Nuria, the concierge. She was so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. She went above and beyond by providing us with excellent service and fantastic restaurant reservations. And a special thank you to Jesus who helped us with our luggage on our departure date by walking a block with us in the dark with our luggage.

Absolutely Amazing Hotel with Absolutely Phenomenal Staff! I’ll start out by saying this: the Palacio de Tepa will always hold a special place in my heart! Aside from its incredible location and amazing amenities (highly, highly recommend taking advantage of their spa and getting a massage during your stay—I promise, you won’t regret it!), it’s the staff that truly make the hotel extra special. During my most recent trip to Madrid, I proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancée!) while staying at the Palacio de Tepa. While the proposal itself took place at the Parterre Garden (about a 15 minute walk from the hotel), I’d wanted to have something special set up for when we eventually made our way back to our room. Queue the hotel staff, who didn't hesitate to take on my request and were incredibly helpful in setting everything up—from the celebratory champagne, chocolates, flowers, and balloons, to the pictures of me and my fiancée, along with a proposal message I’d written, prominently displayed on the TV screen in our room. The whole thing was just so absolutely perfect! A special shout out to Núria, Lilian, María, and Patricia (part of the hotel’s Concierge and Guest Relations team), who not only worked secretly and tirelessly behind the scenes to set things up on my behalf, but were also instrumental in the suggestions they provided along the way! I can’t wait to make my way back to Madrid—after all, it’s the city where I got engaged! And I’ll absolutely be staying at the Palacio de Tepa when I do, given that the hotel and its staff were such an integral part in making my proposal a truly special moment, from start to finish!

We have just spent 4 days in this beautiful|and welcoming hotel. We had a lovely surprise on arrival as we had a room upgrade. The room|was stunning, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were all graciously attentive and welcoming. The hotel’s location was perfect - we could walk to all of the main sights. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We stayed there as we are used to the NH hotel quality. This is by far the best of the NH experience. The people were amazing and went out after their way to make our stay enjoyable and comprehensive. The concierge service was outstanding and gave us recommendations for places to see and restaurants and coffee shops that were outstanding. They took the time to make phone calls to make reservations for us and write things down for us, and help us with tickets for the museum By calling the museum and making all the arrangements. You don’t find such service and such caring anymore at any hotel. Its the inpy hotel we will stay in when in madrid. The rooms are spacious clean and we were upgraded for free. Room service was wonderful checking with us at the end of the day to restock our coffee, tea, free filtered water, and whatever we needed. You don’t find such attention to the resident in any hotel in America or euope. Thank you NH staff and administration. We will be back soon!

I had the opportunity to stay on the property for seven days while on business with a colleague.. I had an exceptional stay. The room was more than comfortable and housekeeping kept it well maintained. Luna and Adrian expedited my early check in. Andreina provided exceptional service in the restaurant and lounge area. Finally, Nuria was an extraordinary brand ambassador for the property and treated me like family. I can’t wait to come back again on business

This hotel was chosen for me by AmaWaterways and it could not have been better. Centrally locaterd, and easy walk to all major turist attractions. The room was comfortable and clean. The Wi-Fi worked with no additional charge, and the breakfast was more then ample. What else could you ask for. I received good advice on resturants and was please with the staff. Trip type vacation, River Cruise

Google
I’ve stayed at this hotel five years running and will stay there again next year. It’s clear they care about creating comfortable spaces that feel equally good to come home to after a busy day or to lounge during a slow day. The aesthetics of the hotel are curated with a deliberation that remains faithful to the hotel’s rich history. Location-wise it cannot be beat with easy access to four very distinct neighborhoods depending on which way you step out the door.

Yelp
LOVED our stay here. Absolutely stunning hotel in an incredible location. From the very beginning of our stay, service was wonderful, especially our interactions with Jonathon. We arrived way early prior to check-in and he kept us up to date on when our room would be ready, gave us ideas and suggestions on things to do while we waited, and brought our bags up to the room when it was ready. He remembered our names and always asked us how we were doing and how our day was. The hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby offered a grand first impression and gave a lux vibe that was found throughout the hotel. Our room overlooked the plaza and had beautiful doors that opened up to enjoy the weather. The breakfast spread was incomparable, as it had a huge array of gourmet offerings from fresh ham to jarred salads to eggs ordered off the menu. We felt so spoiled by what was available to choose from and every single thing was DELICIOUS. When we return to Madrid, we will make sure to stay here again. Highly recommend to anyone!

Yelp
We would definitely stay at this property again. Perfectly located in central Madrid. This neighborhood is a very happening location with many many bars and restaurants to choose from. And, it is not too loud at night, either. The staff all have been just wonderful and professional. I wonder if this collection of hotels are all as well run and nice. There is a water/Champagne station always on display in the lobby. Staff is available for questions at all times. There is a breakfast buffet that is very extensive as you'd expect. We had a 4th floor (highest floor) room with a view of Plaza Angel. Lovely. Very comfortable bed and quality linens. There is an automated "app" that you use when requesting more coffee pods, bathroom amenities, room service etc. Very nice.

Yelp
This was our first experience with NH Collection hotels and we were so impressed. We booked a deluxe room with one king-size bed and had a window facing the main street. The room was nice, spacious, and very quiet. We saw other guests in the hotel and the main street we faced was very busy throughout the night, but the walls and windows were very well sound-proofed so we barely heard anything. Our booking included breakfast, which was an extensive buffet spread. There was a variety of fruit, cold cuts, pastries, bread, and cereal options. You could also order eggs or other hot dishes off their menu. There are a few NH Collection locations in Madrid, but we really enjoyed staying at the Palacio de Tepa. We were within walking distance of all the restaurants and tourist attractions on our itinerary. Additionally, the front desk staff told us the hotel used to be part of a palace and the room behind the reception area is a showcase of the original structures. Above all, the staff was extremely welcoming and happy to help with any of our requests. Juan at the concierge table gave us some great recommendations for our stay in Madrid. Highly recommended!

Yelp
NH Palacio de Tepa is a perfect place to stay in the heart of Madrid. I mean who really wants to drive if you are out and about enjoying the food and libations. An added bonus is you will save money on the taxi fare too and get some exercise to work off all those calories. The hotel was immaculate, the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, the breakfast buffet was incredible, the staff were friendly and it was in the best possible location. We were seriously smack dab in the middle of Madrid, so we could walk everywhere. One day we strolled over the Mercado de San Miguel which is right by Plaza Mayor. This is a perfect spot to grab lunch and a cocktail. We continued strolling after lunch over to the Museo Palacio Real. After lunch we headed back toward the hotel and continued on to the Museo de Prado. At night you are in the middle of the fun, so just head out to find dinner and stroll around the Puerta del Sol which is a couple blocks away. We picked up a really nice Real Madrid futbol jersey for my nephew who was kind enough to take care of our beloved furry family member while we were out of town. Tips: - Ask for a map from the front desk. They have a great one with all the landmarks. - Bring some comfortable shoes to walk in because that's what you will be doing. - Walk to the Mercado de San Miguel for lunch or a snack. - Walk to to the Museo Palacio Real. It is amazing! Check out the Cathedral across from the palace. My son sang in his first concert there. - Definitely walk over to the Prado Museum. The police headquarters is across the street and it's trippy to see the officers standing outside with their machine guns. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel if you plan on visiting Madrid.

Yelp
Stayed here my last night in Europe. The hotel was centrally locates and within a short walking distance to a great rooftop bar and the main strip. In the lobby, guests are greeted with a complimentary glass of rose, unsweetened tea with fruit or water, along with assorted candy gummies. My boyfriend paid an extra 15€ for a premium room, which had beautiful exposed beams and a skylight facing the church. Inside the room, there was complimentary bottled water and also a menu of additional items available to guests with the premium room upgrades, such as candles, sponges, cooling gel eye masks and bath salts. Would definitely recommend getting the premium upgrade!

Yelp
Great hotel, centrally located. Staff were professional and helpful. Room was more spacious than we expected it to be so that was a happy surprise. Seriously though, location is central and close walking distance to Puerta de Sol. Can't wait to come back to Madrid. Will be staying here again without a second thought

Yelp
This hotel killed it. We had a junior suite. 10ft+ shudders opened to a small terrace looking out over the street. Complimentary spring and sparkling waters and a snack were waiting for us. The bed..... I wish I looked to see the brand of the comforter and mattress. I could have slept for days. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend without hesitation.

Yelp
The room was nice and the location was great, but that's about all the positive I can say about this hotel. Overall- we were extremely unimpressed. We stayed here for 2 nights. When we checked in we were about an hour early, but they still gave us keys to the room (which was nice). When we got into the room we noticed it was extremely hot, but didn't pay it too much attention. We turned the heater down and went out to find something to eat. When we returned later, housekeeping had been in the room and had turned the heat up again and it was boiling hot in the room. We tried to turn the AC on, but it didn't work. We called down to the front desk and they informed us that they didn't have air conditioning. Which isn't a huge deal normally (especially in February) but our room was so hot! We turned the heater completely off and decided to watch a little tv before calling it a night. Only.... The remote was dead (or simply didn't work). Fine, we just decided to read until we fell asleep. Although we slept terribly because we were so miserably hot. Our room was on the top floor and all of the heat from the rooms below was radiating up to our room. The next day was even worse. We left a note for housekeeping asking them to keep the blinds shut (to keep the sun from heating up the room) and the heat off. We also asked them to please check the batteries in the tv remote because it didn't work. When we returned to the room that evening the blinds were wide open, the heat on full blast, and the remote was still dead. I wasn't feeling very well so I opted to soak in the bathtub. Only, there was no hot water. It was luke-warm at best. So, I went to sleep without a bath, in an extremely hot room. The next morning (the morning we were checking out and had a plane to catch) I discovered there was STILL no hot water. So my husband and I got to take cold showers. When we called downstairs to complain, all they said was "we are working on it". Why didn't they leave a note under the door notifying their guests that there was no hot water? And why did the front desk guy lie and say "it started around 1am" and when my husband said "no, it was like this at 9pm last night too" and then he said "oh yeah, last night too". I do not recommend this hotel at all. Their service is just not up to par. The rooms are hot, and they don't seem to posses the service that comes with a 5-star rating. I will never stay at this hotel or any in this chain again. I am still trying to figure out how they achieved a 5 star rating. I've stayed at 3 star hotels that have offered better service.

Yelp
Stylish, new and clean luxury hotel. Rooms are good sized, mine had a great king size bed. Nice Nespresso coffee service in the room and a small flat panel screen with multiple inputs. Upscale feel over all which is pleasing. Ample staff who are very helpful and provided power adapter, sewing kit, and iron. Bathroom large and attractive with high quality surfaces, like marble. single sink and tub, which falls short of my ideal (walk in shower and separate tub) but its a very nice bathroom actually. Blackout shades help late sleepers. Killer location midway between the royal palace on the west and the Prado/park on the east. 15 min walk to the "grand via" neighborhood to the north where upscale locals eat and drink. Furthermore, its right on Plaza Angel, a charming plaza, which shares a corner with the larger Plaza Santa Ana with some nice restaurants like Lateral (great mohito bar) on it. The Melia Reina Victoria next door seems abit more glamourous. Check it out. I would highly recommend this hotel for couples on vaca here in Madrid.

Yelp
Totally affordable, wonderful location, with a nice buffet and a helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are well equipped and clean, with a good sound system. I had an interior room on the top floor with only a view of other rooms--it was a bit dark. And the service room was right next door, and was slammed shut every time someone went in and out -- in general, the walls here are not too thick.

Yelp
The location is perfect! It's so close to the royal palace, plaza mayor, museums and atocha station!!! There are so many restaurants nearby so we were able to walk everywhere. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated and the staff are friendly and very helpful.

Yelp
Nice 4 star restaurant right in the middle of just about everything, restaurants, bars, shopping and people watching. Nice breakfast in the morning. The Nesspresso machine in the rooms are an added plus. I love Nesspreso!

Yelp
We love this hotel. My husband booked this place for our honeymoon and so far the service had been exceptional. One night we cam back after their restaurants already closed but we were asking because we wanted a glass of wine. They served us the wine in the "living room" of the hotel. The waiter was extra sweet. :). And did I mention they upgraded us to a two story suite since it's our honeymoon?! Super awesome suite. Love it. Thanks NH for the wonderful service. We had a wonderful time. :)

Yelp
Cool bar from the outside, but they don't face the bar, they only face the street. Good for a hotel bar I guess, but if you're looking for great cocktails go across the street to the Me Lounge.
