This was our first time staying in a 5* hotel, it was a good experience overall but a few aspects left us disappointed.
Positives:
The building is beautiful, a former bank, the reception and dining areas are particularly spectacular. One of the old vaults has been turned into a bar.
Breakfast was fantastic, the best part of our stay. An excellent range of high quality food options and drinks.
The spa's swimming pool is an excellent size and great for doing a few laps to get some exercise.
We were upgraded to a larger room for free which was great, one split over two levels with a living room downstairs and bed on the mezzanine.
The staff were superb, all very professional, friendly and helpful.
Negatives:
The jacuzzi areas of the spa are connected to the swimming pool, so the water temperature is the same for both. It's perfect for swimming, but too cold for sitting and relaxing in bubbles. The steam room also felt quite dated and in need of a refurbishment. We chose this hotel mainly for its spa facilities, so these aspects were a particular disappointment.
Our upgraded room was most welcome, but we found the temperature of the mezzanine level where the bed is located to be too warm. Neither the air conditioning or opening the windows adequately cooled this area, it was too warm for our liking. The furniture also felt dated and in need of a refurbishment.
