Overall Impression: The good parts and the bad parts of the trip were extremely different and opposite. While the staff provided genuinely outstanding and sincere hospitality—from friendly front-desk agents and pool attendants to the dedicated omelette chef, Yasufumi - the hotel's policies and physical amenities actively worked against the guest experience, making the high price point ($200+/night) feel unjustified. Hotel Nikko Guam is definitively not a 4-star experience.||The Positives: The hotel boasts a convenient location, excellent beach access, a great selection at the breakfast buffet, and a fun pool and waterslide. Every employee I interacted with, across multiple departments (front desk, housekeeping, food service), was notably friendly and attentive, reflecting a high standard of personal service.||The Major Friction Points (Policies vs. Guests):||The policies implemented here do not have the guest’s best interest in mind, creating unnecessary inconvenience.||The Inhospitable Water Policy: While I appreciate the eco-friendly focus, the execution was poor. For a $200+ nightly rate, having to walk two floors down (14th to 12th) simply for drinking water—especially after a late evening check-in, and finding the room's carafes empty—felt acutely inhospitable. This inconvenience was compounded by the absence of refill stations in main public areas like the lobby or pool.||Absurd Gym Hours and Discrepancy: The 8:00 AM gym opening time is unacceptable for a resort catering to travelers. Attempting an early workout resulted in a confusing runaround between our hotel and the neighboring property, wasting valuable time and only granting 15 minutes of exercise. Worse, the contradictory information was highlighted when another guest reported using their room key successfully before 8:00 AM, underscoring a frustrating lack of consistency and poor policy enforcement.||Other Areas for Improvement: The rooms are visibly worn, featuring an old, stained luggage stand, dated bathroom tiling, and a mattress that felt significantly older than its age. Additionally, the breakfast buffet frequently began to deplete its core items (like rolls and bread) by 9:30 AM, even though the stated end time was 10:00 AM, suggesting the closing time should be adjusted to reflect actual service. Finally, a significant discomfort point was witnessing a pool lifeguard taking a smoke break directly behind a cabana, allowing cigarette smoke to drift into the pool area. This lack of sensitivity to non-smoking guests and proximity to the waterslide area is inappropriate for a guest-facing resort environment.||Final Verdict|The defining conclusion of this stay is that the hotel urgently needs to align its operational standards with its pricing. I regret not checking other traveler reviews, which confirms that these policy-based inconveniences are not isolated incidents but rather recurring and systemic issues for guests. For future visits to Guam, I will unfortunately be choosing different accommodations.
