Hotel Niwa Tokyo

A truly magnificent hotel. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, and the rooms are comfortable and very clean. In addition, the Zen gardens are beautiful, not to mention the small gym, the washing machines, and the massage chairs, which are subtle yet very pleasant additions that truly enhance the stay. The hotel’s location is perfect, right next to the Tokyo Dome and public transportation, including subway and train lines, as well as a large number of restaurants and small shops nearby. I had a wonderful stay, felt completely at home, and was sad to leave. A huge thank you to this hotel and its staff for providing the best hotel stay I have ever had.

We booked a twin bed comfort room on the 10th floor for 6 nights - room 1032. I asked for a quiet corner room away from the lift lobby and this is what we received, generous layout, soundproofed and very clean. Bed is firm and lighting a little dim but otherwise great. Also used the self service laundry that had in built detergent and was credit card operated. |We loved the hotel’s location in Jimbocho and the overall garden aesthetic. Very peaceful and elegant! A bit removed from the action in a university area but with excellent subway connections within walking distance. A good cat shop nearby and pleasant eateries. |Breakfast was plentiful and good quality although a better coffee machine may help (filter coffee only) - lots of choice, including the Eggs Benedict made to order. Can be busy but never more than 10 minutes wait at the weekend. |The staff was very nice and helpful, including with booking a restaurant and a taxi to Narita Airport on departure. |I absolutely recommend Hotel Niwa!

Really great hotel. Close to multiple subways and excellent staff and service. The rooms are modern and really well kept. Daily water bottles, really nice products in the room with osaji products. Special shoutout to Yumon at concierge for helping me find my missing bag with our passports. I’ll forever be grateful for your help and the nice Samaritan who helped return my passports and bag to daimaru. Thank you so much. I loved this hotel. We also experienced a sake and mochi eating experience which we all loved. Loved this hotel.

Fantastic hotel! Our Superior Double Room wasn’t very spacious, but the king bed was extremely comfortable and the blackout drapes ensured great sleep. The bathroom was beautiful with amazing shampoo and conditioner (I even bought it to take home!). The location is excellent, and the amenities really stood out—laundry room, gym, and a relaxation room with massage chairs that I enjoyed several times. The dining options were great too. The breakfast buffet at Lieu was exceptional and truly exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended! We had a great stay and will definitely be back on our next trip to Tokyo!

Loved this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Tokyo. The rooms were spacious for Japan standards and very well kept with all the amenities you could need. The breakfast buffet was a great start to the day and the Japanese breakfast is worth a try (unless you don't like fish). It's a bit tucked away which is either a plus or a minus depending on your goals for your trip. However, the subway is VERY close so it is easy to get around! I do wish there had been some more food options, closer, but regardless I would definitely stay there again.

LOVED our stay here! We booked the standard double room with a queen bed and it was by far the most comfortable room we’ve stayed in Tokyo so far. Spacious by Tokyo standards. Great amenities including three terraces, lounge with afternoon coffee/tea, and massage chairs. The location is fantastic. Centrally located in a quieter neighborhood, but with lots of restaurant options within walking distance, quick walk to Suidobashi station. Their breakfast buffet was delicious - would recommend getting it at least once! Will definitely stay here again next time we are in Tokyo!

Absolutely incredible hotel. My fiance and I booked an Airbnb for a stay in Tokyo and upon our first night we discovered it was not what was advertised in photos (dirty, old, someone singing karaoke below the room at 3-4:30am…). We immediately went to google and found this hotel the next morning. The moment we walked in we were greeted by the front of house staff that helped us seamlessly check into our room. We even got free yummy matcha chocolates while we waited. The room itself is very large compared to other Tokyo hotels - it has a large bathroom, bidet, and comfortable bed. The whole vibe of the hotel is extremely relaxing. They have a restaurant, free coffee and green tea from 4-8pm, laundry service, zen room, etc. Hotel Niwa Tokyo turned our horrible start to the day into a relaxing retreat - it was a great way to end our trip in Japan. We will definitely rebook here in the future. Thank you for saving our vacation!! 🥰

The best hotel! The location is amazing, the staff are so kind and the rooms are incredibly clean and well maintained. It has the perfect balance of tradition and modern facilities. There are lots of great food options around the hotel, and heaps of train stations. We even rebooked this hotel during our trip because we loved it so much 💌

We had the best five course lunch ever at Hotel Niwa restaurant! On a recent stay in Tokyo we'd grown weary of walking the Imperial Garden taking in various flora varieties and hunger began to beckon. Recalling a fabulous 5-course lunch I'd read about at Hotel Niwa, not too too far away, we called and made a lunch reservation for two at 13:30. Scampering across town for nearly an hour's distance away we Google Mapped ourselves out of the Imperial Gardens, through Tokyo city streets, side streets and alleys to arrive at the hidden elegant Hotel Niwa in time for our reservation. We were immediately greeted and seated in a table for two. Cozying up to the table on thoughtfully designed stools that were not too high, we admired the serene peacefulness of dining in a small forest in the midst of a 37 million population city. The perfect service was only to support our food experience. Not obtuse or obtrusive like in the typical restaurants in San Diego. We didn't have to hear what their names were and consistently answer questions. They left us alone allowing us to enjoy the perfect food experience, suddenly reappearing each time our courses had been finished. We ordered the five-course fixed price menu and everything was MOST EXCELLENT. See photos with descriptions. As lunch was served until 15:00, they indeed collected our payment at 15:00 then let us continue to sit there. One server, I might add did ask where we were from, as he had been living in San Diego and went surfing at Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. We were so full, and walking home we took our tim, stopping at a few nic-nac shops in a food coma, until we got to our hotel. Don't take my word for it though. Try it out for yourself!

This hotel was amazing. My brother and I stayed for a week during our two-week trip to Japan. The service is wonderful, the vibes are unmatched and it's very clean. The room also had a way to watch Netflix and other streaming services. The area is also free from the immense crowds and close to a JR station and Dome City. I couldn't recommend this hotel more to anyone staying in the area.

Overall a good value and an affordable, beautiful hotel by Tokyo standards. Good location...less than a five minute walk from the Suidobashi station. Stylish hotel with excellent service and great breakfast buffet - overall good kitchen/good meals. Rooms are a bit small, but nice bathrooms, coin laundry, and very tiny workout room (only three machines and no free weights) - gym needs serious improvement! Well located hotel overall with lots of restaurants a few blocks away, and close to Jimbocho station as well. Overall a positive experience and a good 4-star option for hotel in Tokyo.

It's a nice hotel and very friendly staff. Rooms are kinda small but honestly how much time are you really going to spend in the room. The restaurant in the lobby is pretty good no complaints and they also have to currency exchange Machine in the lobby. Convenient being that no one takes USD. Location is on a side back street so grabbing a cab you'll have to walk to the corner and up a block to the main road. Also there are other restaurants and markets to shop as well. I'd stay here again. Over all very good experience.

Hotel Niwa is centrally located in Tokyo and is about three blocks from the JR (Japan Railway). That means you can easily get around once you get to know the train system. The hotel is impeccably clean, the rooms are ample for Japanese hotel sizes. The bathrooms are awesome, the towels are immaculate and the bedding, sheets clean. What can I say, they're just clean all around, almost to the point of sterile. If you stay at the hotel, opt for the breakfast buffet. For the price, it's a great deal. Lots of restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance.

I highly recommend Hotel Niwa. A modern hotel where old Japanese style meets the contemporary. The rooms were beautiful although dimly lit however it's one of those hotel rooms you love to come back to after a long day out. There's a small fridge for keeping drinks and some food if you bring some back. The hotel breakfast was good and convenient. The staff is excellent!!! Very friendly, helpful and speak great English. Suidōbashi station is a 5 minute walk and the Tokyo Dome is very near by. Tips: There's a 24 hour "7 Eleven Store" literally like next door to the hotel. The laundry room is helpful. Free detergent. The dryer doesn't get too hot so you may need to dry your clothes longer than usual. Times to avoid washing is night time after dinner. The earlier the better. Japan is an awesome place. So much to see and do. Tokyo is very cool. Kyoto although a little over-crowded was worth taking the bullet train to. Check out the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. Sooo cool.

This review is for the hotel's restaurant, Yukuri. My client took me here for a lunch meeting. The setting is beautiful with the restaurant looking out to a serene and tranquil traditional Japanese garden. The waitresses all wear kimono. The decor is modern and simplistic. Ambience quiet and cozy. We had the kaiseki lunch and it was so beautiful (see photos). Not only were they pleasing to look at, but also delicious. Afterward the owner of the restaurant came out and said hello to us. She was very friendly and classy. This is a great hidden gem in Tokyo.

Hotel Niwa is probably out of the way for an average traveller in Tokyo. In amongst some hefty corporate towers it's obvious as you enter the lobby that it's a hotel designed for the #roadwarrior and business traveller. But this also means it's out of the main tourist traps of Tokyo and offers a curious traveller the opportunity to explore another side of this diverse city. Hotel Niwa gets my two thumbs up for reasons including: + Proximity to Sudobashi station (about a 5min walk) + Streets of cheap eats including ramen, Japanese curry and sushi one block over. + A small gym and garden courtyard + Free WiFi Now grab your Suica card and go forth to explore!

Beautiful and affordable hotel near Suidobashi station! This hotel has GREAT amenities and gorgeous rooms for the price. Especially enjoy the nice roomy bathrooms, coin laundry, workout room with treadmill, and "refresh room" with free massage chairs...ahhh! Loads of restaurants a few blocks away, and Jimbocho station is a short walk south. The hotel is quite stylish but not overdone. This could easily become my new home away from home!

I have been to Tokyo several times and I have to say I love this hotel the most. The hotel is conveniently located, it's clean and the room is beautiful. I stayed there for 7 nights and I couldn't be happier. I love that it's located in a less touristy area where it's peaceful and calm. But yet if you want some actions, walking to the Tokyo dome is around 5 mins, including waiting for the traffic light. There are many local restaurants near the hotel and if you decide not to have the breakfast at the hotel, then you still got choices there. Some facts/recommendations for those who wish to stay at this hotel: 1. Near JR Suidobashi station. Take east exit. Turn right and cross the street at the first crosswalk (to the opposite side of the street), then you will find sign of hotel niwa Tokyo. 2. If carrying heavy luggages and don't feel like looking for the hotel, can get off at akihabara station and take a taxi. Cost around ¥1100. That's what I did. If taking a taxi from Ueno I was told it's around ¥2000-¥3000. 3. The walk to Tokyo dome is around 5 mins and to the shopping mall LaQua is around 10 mins. Same area. 4. Convenient store next to the hotel. And several more just around the corner. 5. Ramen, soba, udon shops around the corner. 6. Mos burger is 5 mins walk. Please Google. 7. A bakery cafe called Miyabi nearby. On the same street as 711 and yoshiniya. To your left when facing yoshinoya. They serve breakfast set for ¥650. Very nice spacious cafe. 8. Nice quiet and safe area. Away from the hustle bustle but yet very convenient. 9. Ask for higher floor when staying in the hotel. I was on 14F and got a nice view where I saw part of Tokyo tower. 10. Super clean and staff are helpful and courteous. 11. Breakfast buffet is ¥2500 but excellent quality. Highly recommended! I overall highly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Highly recommended!

Although not in a bustling tourist area, Hotel Niwa Tokyo is a welcomed refuge for any traveler. The hotel is a short walk away from a subway line and Tokyo Dome. Tokyo Dome Hotel would serve as the closest Limousine Bus stop as well. The hotel room is beautifully appointed and rather large by Tokyo standards. Amenities are a higher standard (my father in law even purchased the pajamas they provide their guests daily). They have massage chairs located in their lounge (be warned, instructions are in Japanese, but just hit a bunch of buttons and you'll be relaxed in no time). Fitness room only has cardio machines, but has space for a body weight workout. The breakfast buffet provided here is a must and my favorite compared to the 6 hotels I've stayed in within Japan. They have a great selection of options for any palette and I enjoyed seeing what others considered "breakfast" based on their country of origin. If the regular restaurant area is full, you are in luck because they will make room for you in the regular dinner area that has a wonderful view of the hotel's traditional garden. The staff here are thoughtful, friendly, and speak English very well. There is also a convenience store nearby if you forget anything. I hope I can be lucky enough to return to this hotel one day!

Nice room, clean and modern and quite lovely; of course the service was great. We wound up with a smaller room but there was enough space to unpack and set up camp for a few days. The breakfast buffet is a little spendy, but the restaurant is lovely and it overlooks the garden courtyard. Location-wise; it's close to the Tokyo Dome and a nice walk to the Imperial Palace, but as the area is home to universities and research labs, as well as what is probably the world's longest used-bookstore & woodblock-print street, don't expect many upscale shops or restaurants nearby.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Niwa, and I would highly recommend it for a first-time traveler or businessperson in Tokyo. I stayed at Hotel Niwa in late March 2014 with a friend. We booked their Superior Twin Non-Smoking room for 3 nights, costing us approximately $450 for the entire stay. Even though the hotel is close to the Tokyo Dome, it is tucked away on a relatively quiet and peaceful block. There is a train that runs near the hotel, but I never noticed any noise from the trains during my stay. The concierge were also fluent in English and were very helpful with booking reservations and recommending things to do around the city. The room itself was fantastic in terms of amenities and comfort (mini-fridge, free wifi access, free access to the Wall Street Journal), and it was also immaculately clean. However, the room was still a bit cozy for two people compared to western hotel rooms. If you and your roommate need a lot of space to feel comfortable, then you may need to book a room larger than their Superior Twin bedroom. The hotel is conveniently located a few blocks south from the Suidobashi JR Station (5-10 minute walk away), which made it easy to travel to/from the airport and to travel around the city. There are also many local restaurants in the neighborhood and a Starbucks/McDonalds near Suidobashi Station for homesick Americans. The next time I travel to Tokyo, Hotel Niwa is definitely going to be at the top of my list for places to stay. It's affordable, clean, and conveniently located near food and public transportation. What more could you ask for?

Hotel Niwa Tokyo was perfect for our needs. Comfortable, quiet, inviting. The price was very reasonable. Consider what you typically pay in other large cities and the true value of this lovely hotel goes even further. By US standards the rooms are small, but know what? You should be out experiencing the city not sitting in your room! Use this place to sleep and enjoy how restful it can be after a day running around. Close by rail and subway stops makes it easy to get around town. We found a number of great restaurant options nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful and the room was always perfect when we came back each day.

Visits: 1st Rating: 5* Service: Above & Beyond Very nice hotel. So clean with beautiful decor. The rooms aren't huge but good enough. We don't need living room size space to sleep. You get all the amenities like a safe, blow dryer, an iron with ironing board, shoe horn, closet & refrigerator. THE REASON WHY WE LOVE THIS HOTEL? The complimentary items they give you. Yes, some of these are the usual but some are not & they're ALL FREE! Here's what you get (complimentary): Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Floss, Comb, Hair Ties, Deodorant, Shoe Freshening Spray, Disposable Slippers & some others I forget. Whoa!

Hotel Niwa is a great little hotel in the Suidobashi area of Tokyo. It's easily accessible off of the JR Chuo-sen (line), which is just 2 stops and a line change from Toyko station. I chose this hotel for one visit to Tokyo because its essentially in the middle of the city, so it's very easy to use this area as a base to see all of Tokyo. Suidobashi is very convenient as well. You could literally walk 15-20 mins and get to Kanda, Akihabara, or even west to Shibuya. It's near a ton of universities and the Tokyo Dome. And who doesn't love the announcement at the JR Station when you arrive at Suiiiiidobashi! ^_^ But I digress, back to the hotel info: The hotel is literally 2 blocks from the JR station's east exit, heading south-east, so super convenient if you're lugging a ton of luggage around Japan. (about 10 min walk max). The name "Niwa" means "garden", and there are plenty of them on this property. Small fountains and impromptu gardens surround the property and are on many of the floors of the building. The lobby has a beautiful bamboo and lighting core and the entryway is full of wood accents. Pretty place! The service at the hotel is friendly and professional. English is certainly spoken here, so tourists don't need to be afraid about communication. The hallways to the rooms are very typical of what one would see in a Japanse-style inn, or ryokan; it's a really nice touch. Room sizes were standard for Japanese hotels. They have all the typical Japanese business-hotel amenities (slippers, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo, ear cleaners, etc etc etc). One of the previous reviewers commented that the amenities were amazing and that the rooms were small, but both of these things are standard in just about every Japanese-style business hotel in Japan. No extra-points for having standard amenities! The hotel is also standard for Japanese-style, as they don't allow check-in before 2pm but do hold your bags both before and after check-out. There is free-wifi in all rooms and in the lobby, etc, but can be spotty. The other nice thing about this hotel is that it does have a small gym, which was well-kept, as well as a relaxation room, which featured two massage chairs, some magazines, and a view of their balcony garden. The garden had a sitting area and some bamboo/water effects. Nice little garden in the middle of the urban jungle that is Tokyo. The massage chairs were a nice end to a day of hiking around town, where my sore tootsies were so happy to settle into that chair and get pampered. Here's the score: Ambience/Service: 5/5 Rooms/Amenities: 4/5 Location: 5/5 - perfect for those who use JR to get around Tokyo/Japan Price: 3.5/5 - a bit pricey compared to similar hotels, even using discount sites, with no breakfast included; breakfast offerings looked nice but were quite pricey ($16-20 per person) Overall: 4/5. Loved this hotel. This wasn't available on Yelp back when I traveled here in 2012, but I wanted to review anyway. The front desk didn't speak much English, but checking in wasn't a problem. The rooms are tiny (all Japanese hotels are) but had nice decor and the Japanesey feel you want. They had a pretty little garden area up on one of the higher floors outside the vending area that had massage chairs and washing machines. This hotel is a very close walk to suidobashi train station. The buses that transported from the airport did not come to this hotel, but you can take the ride to Tokyo Dome Hotel and walk right over to Niwa. There is a convenience store right up the block and a couple restaurants in walking distance, one of which was 24 hours.

Excellent service. After checking in, they actually tell you about how to turn on your main lights through your key holder inside the door. The special attention to space with in is very nice and the beds are soft but firm, hope you understand that. They know the area well, and being next to 3 different rail lines is a plus. And also down the road is Tokyo Dome. With baseball, and a huge amusement park, there are other things to do if you want to. Like getting to the grave site of the 47 Ronin, was a small adventure and worth it. There are many eateries, but ask the staff and they pointed us to a couple local spots...and all good. The night light in the rooms were situated just right next to each bed. Well thought of. Will come back....

At the price they charge, this is an excellent hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, roomy and have great beds. The bathrooms are very comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend anyone visiting Tokyo to choose this hotel. It may not be in a very busy part of town, but this also means you can enjoy a quiet night's rest. Staff is really friendly and helpful.

I've stayed here multiple times and I really like this hotel. It's extremely clean, calm, and well located. The staff are extremely nice. Perfect for the price!

Very well run hotel. Clean and modern rooms. Front desk staff speak good but not great English. Location is ok- a 5 minute walk from both suidobashi and jimbocho so obviously you can get to anywhere you need to go but we didn't find ourselves hanging out in our immediate area too much during our stay. Wi-fi is free and it's ok but if there was one thing I would say needs to be improved upon I would say is this. It's often slow and the connection drops frequently. I really expect more from a hotel in this regard when I come to tokyo. One really nice surprise and I'm not sure if this is common or not but there are two washing/drying machines in the hotel where you can do your laundry for about $4 a load. Wish I had known this earlier as I could have downsized from a check-in to a carry on only. I would stay again but only if hotels in other, better areas like shibuya or ginza were above my price limit.
