Friendly and nice hotel. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The staff very friendly and give good advice. It was wonderful to stay in the northern part of the country. The diamond circle is phenomenal. I loved the town of Akureyri. Will return one say.

The room is old and very small. We stayed in a twin room and the position of the beds is weird (L shape). There’s no cabinet and the rack for the coats are just beside the bed. There’s not enough space for big luggages. The carpet in the room doesn’t look really clean. The tiles and ceiling in the bathroom looked old. There’s not enough lights. One of the sockets beside the bed is not working. It takes a while before the heater works. The kettle in our room is also old and a bit rusty so we didn’t use it. The CR is big but the scent they have doesn’t smell refreshing. There’s a balcony where you can see the Aurora but the street lights are too bright so you can’t really see it. The hotel is in downtown so it’s just a quick to various restaurants and grocery store.

The hotel is very clean. The staff helpful (two separate people asked if I would like help bringing my bag to my room). My room was a single. It was an ok size, and the bed was comfortable. I'm was warm enough in the room and you could adjust the heat to your liking. The Wi-Fi worked fine but the TV only had a few channels and only two of those weren't constantly pixelating and losing dialogue. It was not a smart TV. I ended up watching videos on my phone, the Wi-Fi was strong and I had no difficulty doing that. The breakfast buffet was ok, learned more towards traditional Icelandic with added selections of pickled fish and things. I was excited to see their large selection of yogurt toppings, but then only had a carton of plain yogurt on offer. No other flavors and no skyr. The hotel itself was very quiet, I could not hear my neighbors or people walking on the hall. The window on the room was quite large but had great black out curtains as well.

Avoid Hotel Nordurland at All Costs! I had an incredibly frustrating experience at Hotel Nordurland, and I want to share it as a warning for others. Here’s what happened: While I was taking a shower, I noticed the water wasn’t draining and started to rise. I felt something was wrong but thought I could quickly finish and inform the reception afterward, assuming it wasn’t a big issue. However, when I stepped out of the bathroom, I realized the water had flowed out of the shower area, through the sink area, and into the room! The bathroom design was terrible—there was only one drain inside the shower, and none near the toilet or sink. I quickly dressed and went to find the reception. On my way, I bumped into a staff member in the hallway who asked what I was doing, saying there was severe water leakage downstairs. I explained the situation honestly and requested a room change. I thought the matter was resolved, but later that evening, when I went to borrow a hairdryer, I was lectured by the staff. They said things like, "Why didn’t you report this sooner?" and "You think this is funny? I don’t think so," in a rude and condescending tone. Although I tried to explain that I didn’t realize the severity of the situation at first, I just kept quiet and let them speak since I felt it wasn’t worth arguing over. The worst part came the next day when I was checking out. The reception informed me that, according to their hotel policy, I had to pay a maximum fee of 150,000 ISK to cover the repair costs. I was completely shocked. The hotel’s outdated and poorly designed drainage system was clearly at fault—why should I be held 100% responsible? There were no blockages in the drain, such as hair or debris, so it was obviously an issue with their maintenance. Yet, they insisted I pay in full and refused to take any responsibility. We were on a guided tour arranged by Troll Expeditions, and the hotel was chosen by them, not me. The guide kept pressuring me to pay, saying, "You should sign it," which made the situation even worse. With no time to dispute, being part of a 10-person group, and worrying about potential visa issues or further trouble, I reluctantly paid the amount. It felt like outright extortion. Now, I can only hope my travel insurance (Coverwise) can cover this expense. However, I’ve read that it might not be applicable for Chinese citizens, so I’m feeling quite uneasy. This whole ordeal has been incredibly frustrating and feels like paying to avoid further disaster. I just hope the rest of my 2025 will go smoothly. If you’re planning to visit Iceland, I highly recommend avoiding Hotel Nordurland at all costs. It’s an absolute nightmare!

earch reviews||||Anna Bampali||1/5||4 minutes ago on Google||I travelled as part of an erasmus project with a school in akureiry but I had the worst ever experience in my life. The customer service is not the proper one. I was treated like a thief. We stayed there all teachers for four to five nights. Sunday to Friday. On Thursday morning I went down to have breakfast and the receptionist didn't let me take breakfast unless I paid him for our stay there. Then the receptionist didn't let me go in my room unless he was accompanying me kept asking for the money in an terrible impolite manner. He even told us he will call the police. He got extremely mad and didn't let me go in my room to take my staff. I regard I had tue worst experience in my whole travel life. If I had a chance I would have left immediately after the whole thing. The manager of the hotel never appeared to give the proper customer service to a teacher that had visited the country with school students via am erasmus project. I don't think this place is safe and proper for anybody. I would NEVER EVER recommend it and I hope no one will have such a terrible frustrating experience!!!

The hotel is nicely located, you can easily explore the town on foot. The staff are more than polite and helpful. |The room itself was clean and averagely furnished. The breakfast was okay, but not more (we saw a lot more inviting buffets all over Iceland with fresh fruit ecc.). |Overall: you can definitely book this hotel if you wish to stay close to the town center or harbour.

I stayed here for one night as part of an organized tour. The room was clean, the Wi-Fi was strong, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Akureyri, within walking distance of major attractions and eateries in town. I enjoyed the breakfast, which included an English breakfast in addition to the usual continental options provided by most hotels. Overall, everything was good.

Contrary to other reviews, I had a really good stay. My room was very clean, the bed was super comfortable and sheets and bedding very good. Breakfast area really cozy. I normally stay in good hotels so I can reassure you there is nothing to worry about. Only thing is the sound insulation but luckily my neighbors went to bed early.
