Hotel Oberkirch

Location is great, just on the famous square, people/ owners are very friendly. We have received a free upgrade of our room with a much bigger bed. Breakfast is good, service -excellent. Rooms are clean and cosy. Definitely recommend . Worth coming back again.

Appears on the surface to be a pleasant boutique hotel. Unfortunately the actual location is quite poor with poor signage and the entrance located near some seedy alleys. The experience I had was far worse with a seemingly normal late check-in process turning into a disaster - hotel had no reception clerk afterhours (fine) but the emergency number failed to respond to any calls/messages. Eventually had to literally leave the establishment and go to another hotel. Follow-up customer service was extremely poor. Highly recommend you look elsewhere - just not worth the hassle and attitude that takes away from a lovely town.

This review is about the restaurant and not the hotel. This place offers an authentic German dining experience and food was great. Directly at Münsterplatz in a charming old building. Inside everything is well-preserved, cozy ambiance with rustic decor. Overall friendly staff but at times it felt that they were not very professional addressing a couple of issues we had regarding orders.

Very nice hotel right in the centre of town in the main square. The staff were extremely welcoming and it is obvious this is not a chain hotel, but one where the staff really care about the comfort of their guests. The room was a good size and reasonably well appointed. A decent desk and chair was helpful as I did have some work to do. The wifi was adequate for video calls and all my needs. Breakfast was in the attached restaurant and was very good, although there was a limited choice of hot food options (eggs where great though). Definitely a good choice for tourists or business.

This is a great choice if you are looking for a spot in the old city. The building is charming, but despite its dead-center location and a busy restaurant downstairs, we experienced a completely quiet and serene stay there. The lady at the reception was wonderful and knowledgeable, and the service during breakfast was attentive. Keep in mind that with a room in a medieval building in Germany in a tourist hot spot, you will not have all that much space, but this joint is superbly clean and quiet, and breakfast is ample and varied.

Hotel Oberkirch is a charming, old school, classic German hotel in the middle of the old town. Had a corner room in the back building overlooking the very pretty, cobblestoned alley way. Although relatively small, the room was so serene and nicely decorated -- complete with parquet floor, wallpaper, and wooden bed -- I was totally enchanted. If you stay here, which I highly recommend, do not miss eating dinner at the restaurant, which is located in a different building, on the cathedral square. Had an absolutely superb dinner of venison, spaetzle, and red cabbage. And the staff at both the hotel and restaurant were lovely, helpful, and enthusiastic. Don't miss staying here!

This is a review of the restaurant only. We have been to Freiburg many times, yet this was our first meal at Hotel Oberkirch. It will not be our last--food was splendid German cuisine. Atmosphere is relaxed, upscale and quiet. I had a flavorful venison stew, my wife had fish.

Very convenient location in Freiburg, walkable to just about everywhere including train station. The staff took great care of us. I'd go back, if I'm in Freiburg again.

Great location. The food is average. I had breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is above average but the choices are not much. It was crowded for lunch. Quality of service is just average.
