If I was going to book a stay at the Hotel Oberland, Lauterbrunnen I would definitely use a booking website. Do not book direct.|We didn’t mind booking directly with the hotel as we have had two very pleasant previous stays, what we didn’t bargain for was the hotel had new management since our last visit.|In May we booked for five nights over the ’24 Christmas, prepaying in full which is the hotels request. At the end of October they cancelled our Christmas Eve and Christmas Night booking, leaving us with three nights. |This was done by email, with no offer of a refund, the email went to spam and we didn’t see it for five days, by which time the hotel had closed for five and a half weeks. At first we thought the hotels emails had been hacked and we were being scammed, but eventually by going through the local tourist bureau we managed to get in contact with the hotel, who confirmed it as correct.|We walked on eggshells from then on with the hotel, eventually managing to get a refund over six weeks after they cancelled two of our five nights. They said they were slow because they were closed, but I did note during that time that we wanted our refund they did post 67 pictures on Facebook. My guestimate is their cancellation cost us about 110CHF above what we would have paid, as we had to find somewhere else at shorter notice.|We had to contact them for our refund, they made no effort to contact us.|Compare to someone else who had their Norway hotel cancel a night. The hotel rang and rang and rang them until contacting them, apologising profusely and offered to pay for them to stay somewhere else.
