Hotel Occidental Barcelona 1929

This hotel is located just off Place de Espayna. There are good transport links. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the room, although smaller than expected, was air-conditioned. The only thing I would have liked more of in the room was more storage space. ||||There is a rooftop bar with a lovely view, and a small pool should you wish to do some sunbathing. ||||The breakfast has a huge range of foods on offer.

Pleasant Stay Despite a Rough StartWhen I made the booking, I requested a twin bed. However, the reply I received was that it couldn’t be guaranteed — and the tone felt quite unfriendly. It honestly made me want to cancel the reservation right away. Unfortunately, cancellation wasn’t allowed, so I decided to just go ahead and see how things turned out.To my surprise, we were given a twin room at check-in, and the staff on-site were actually friendly and helpful. The location is excellent — very convenient for buses and the metro. There’s even a stop for the A1 airport bus just one step away.The room was well-insulated and quiet, with a good air conditioning system. I was also impressed that they offered a pillow selection — something I’ve only experienced in Japan before.In the end, despite the rocky beginning, it turned out to be a good stay.

Great place. Really nice and in a very central location. Next to the very cool mall. The only thing is that the room was tiny. The shower and the bathroom was amazing but there was no closet to put luggage or any other table or folding valet for the suitcase, so you had to flip it onto the bed to get your clothes. I love that they provide you with a complimentary bottle of water in the refrigerator. I really liked it but for two people it was a bit tight. The bedding and beds were great but the noise from outside and the metro underneath was pretty loud. It was a nice place for what you need.

Room was great. Decent space for major European city; very comfortable king bed (pillows were stupendous. Room shower was utterly amazing; water pressure was incredible, spacious, towels were large. Rooftop pool was a nice break from the heat (much less busy on weeknight than weekend). Staff very accommodating of poor-Spanish-language travellers. €20 to check in early with a North American red eye flight. Did not partake of €17 breakfast as Mercadona was a 5 min walk for €.85 pain de chocolate and cheap fruit. Location amazing for Montjuic and Olympic sites; we were walkers so no big deal but main tourist sites were 30-40 min walk. Metro station very close though. A wonderful stay.

I usually write reviews, but I am thankful for this hotel. Picking a hotel is difficult when you don’t know anything about any of the hotels in town. My Chatgpt took my preferences and suggested Occidental Barcelona 1929. I was glad i stayed there. A big shout out to the staff who helped us out when my wife was sick on our vacation and needed somewhere quiet to sleep. The location of the hotel was perfectly accessible to so the metra and all the great shops on the street. The bakery across the street is…wow! The view from the terrace was stunning where I was able to relax. The wading pool was perfect and all the other guests there shared the same chill vibe. The entire ambience of Occidental Barcelona 1929, from top to bottom, was a relaxing and comforting space. I even found myself asking my phone what song was playing in the hotel so i could add it to my playlist. Mind sharing that full playlist? Finally the room are comfortable, spacious, and clean- with the room making you feel like you are the first occupants in the room. ||If ever make it to Barcelona again, it will be hard pressed for me to want to try a different spot. I just wouldn’t want this gem to become TOO popular as to prevent me from being able to come back!

I had a terrible experience during my stay. Around 4 AM, someone started banging aggressively on our door and singing loudly for about 10 minutes. It was frightening and felt completely unsafe. I couldn’t sleep at all afterward — not even 5 minutes — and had a 13-hour international flight back to Canada the next day. When I reported this to the front desk in the morning, the receptionist simply said “I’m sorry,” with no further action, no explanation, and no offer to make it right. This was not what I expected from a hotel. I paid for a safe and restful stay, and this experience was the complete opposite. I hope the management takes this seriously and improves both their security and customer service.

Nice hotel. Away from the busier parts of Barcelona which was nice. Small pool on roof and loungers not always available as limited in number. ||||Rooms had no storage for clothes apart from a few hangers, could really do with some drawers! Air conditioning unit was very noisy so made it hard to sleep. ||||Very close to metro station so easy to get to other parts of Barcelona from here.
