Hotel Olden

I had a lovely short break at Hotel Olden and couldn’t be more pleased. It truly feels like a home away from home. The room was very warm, clean, and comfortable, and the breakfast selection was amazing. The service at the restaurant was exceptional as well. Overall, my experience was excellent, thanks to the wonderful house staff and the restaurant team. Everyone was kind and friendly, going out of their way to ensure my stay was worth every minute. Thank you!

It was our first time at Olden, and despite being fully booked, Massimo made every effort to accommodate us with a table. Since there was zero availability upstairs, we were taken to La Cave downstairs, where we enjoyed live music—it couldn’t have been more perfect. The staff were attentive, and the food was excellent. The schnitzel was generous, and the crepe Suzette was delicious. I will definitely return and make a reservation in advance, as it seems to be a popular venue. Highly recommended.

We booked a table for 8 people last week and unfortunately had a very poor service experience. Upon arrival, the head waiter strongly pushed a platter of fresh fish. We politely declined, saying we preferred to order something else. From that moment on, our table was largely ignored. When the first course was served, only 4 out of 8 guests received food, while the rest were left waiting. When we raised the issue, the response was extremely arrogant, with an attitude that felt like we should simply accept whatever was decided for us. We spoke to the person in charge, but instead of listening, we were told that we had requested things this way and that the staff was “well trained.” There was no effort to acknowledge the mistake or improve the situation. The overall feeling was that we were not considered important enough guests or not spending the amount of money expected. One waiter later apologized privately and explained that decisions come from management and that he could do nothing about it. This is particularly disappointing because the food is very good and the restaurant and hotel are beautiful. Unfortunately, the service attitude and management approach completely overshadow the quality of the food. I usually avoid writing negative reviews, but I believe this feedback is important and hope the ownership takes it seriously.

I was so excited to go back to Olden. The first time was last year and we had an amazing time with great food and service. We went twice within a week. This year we went with three other families and booked the place three times for the week. What a disappointment! We faced arrogance at all levels, felt like victims taken hostage by professionals who were well trained to be arrogant. We gave the order and the waiter never asked what we wanted as a first and what as a second, never asked about allergies, our wine came after the appetizer was served, we had to get up and get the bottle of water ourselves but the best was yet to come. The waiter assumed what would be served as a first and what would be a second and it just happened that half of the group finished eating and the other half never got anything. We raised the issue, we never got an understanding from the waiter and got the manager at our table, an hour and a half after had made the order. When we tried to explain we were told that the waiting staff is well trained, they know what they are doing and full stop. While I fully appreciate that the staff might be well trained, people make mistakes. It could have been also us that didn’t specify what we wanted as a first and what as a second but at the end of the day, there was a misunderstanding that caused us a very uncomfortable situation. Even recognizing the misunderstanding was difficult for the waiter and the manager. While I appreciate Olden can see itself as a monopoly in Gstaad, thats not the way to treat clients because such treatment pushes clients away. We canceled the two other reservations and I am not going back again because the feeling that the treatment left me was very sour.

We were recommended Olden by many local friends, hence we were very excited to try their famous penne al vodka. Honestly, very average food, excellent service and nice atmosphere. I think its a place to see and get seen, but the food quality which is what matters most to us, was rather on the low side. Either of us didn’t finish the pasta, and the salad was rather normal. The hotel is beautiful and as I said, the service was excellent, apologies for the honest review.

The Olden Hotel Bar is undoubtedly the best in Gstaad! 🍹 Alfredo is an exceptional bartender, and we always return for his tip-top service, incredible drinks, and the fantastic atmosphere. Cheers to unforgettable nights! Salute! 🎉 Angelo is absolutely a top fan of Alfredo!!!

last week we booked a table for 8 people at the restaurant. since our arrival the headwaiter comes to our table and offers us a plateau of the fresh fish. we gently refused by saying that we want to it something different. from that moment it was a complete ignoration of our table. also the first course arrived for only 4 of us and the rest were left without food. when we complained in a very arrogant way the message was shut up a follow our order. also when we complained to the responsible of the restaurant the answer was that you have requested this way and that he believes his staff that is well trained. from that moment we decided to let it go because their attitude was very aggressive and it was felt like we were not important enough or not spending as much money as they were pretending. one of the waiters excused for the whole situation but told me that it their bosses that decide and he cannot do anything about it. it is such a pity because the food is very good and the owners do not deserve that such a beautiful restaurant and hotel to be ruined by this Italian lobby running the restaurant the way they are doing. i could have stayed silent and not write this review but i believe is the right thing to do and the ownership is aware.

My husband and I have dined at The Olden several times, and we've consistently enjoyed exceptional service. From the moment we walk in, we are warmly greeted by everyone, including the coat check staff and the maitre d', Massimo, who always goes above and beyond. Even during the busy weeks when the restaurant was fully booked, he managed to secure us a table.||We’ve noticed a lot of new faces recently, likely due to a surge in social media presence perhaps. Some may not be familiar with the environment or etiquette. While The Olden is a renowned establishment, it maintains a cosy, home-like feel that beautifully combines glamour with a laid-back atmosphere. It truly is a special place, and Gstaad’s charm comes with a price, attracting those who genuinely appreciate it. The staff, without exception, are incredibly kind and accommodating.

Wow, what a lovely, lovely hotel. This is where you need to stay if you ever go to Gstaad!! This is Swiss hospitality and charm at it's very best! You will be so positively surprised of all the small but important details of service!
