"Built in the 1920s by a Croatian businessman, Palacio Astoreca underwent two years of refurbishment and restoration before opening its doors as a boutique hotel in 2012. The work was carried out to a meticulous degree, maintaining the original parquet floors, and adding splashes of color with art deco furniture and modern art, including one piece by Switzerland ’s Frédéric Clot. The stucco-and-brick mansion rises up from the streets of Chile ’s port city, Valparaíso, like a piece of red-and-white confectionary. A statement staircase winds up to the 23 rooms, some of which have stand-alone bathtubs. And the basement level is home to a small spa with an open-air, wood-fueled hot tub set alongside a living wall. The reception level and entrance hall open out onto a terrace where lunch, tea, and cocktails are served, allowing guests prime views over the hilly city and Pacific Ocean. There are quiet corners for those seeking a solitary moment, including a library and a piano bar, which comes to life in the evenings with live music."

How and Where to Find Natural Wine in Chile - AFAR

"Spend Saturday in gritty but exciting Valparaíso. Hotel Palacio Astoreca is a short stroll from the Tres Peces restaurant, which also focuses on locally caught fish and traditional ingredients. (Warm up for the next morning by drinking Viñedos Herrera-Alvarado wines, which occupy a prime spot on the menu.) From $200." - Alice Feiring

A lovely elegant old style hotel set in a pretty part of Valparaiso. We enjoyed our stay here, finding the front desk staff (in particular the young lady who checked us in and was there in the afternoons) friendly and helpful. We were kindly given an upgrade from a junior suite to what had to be the best room in the house - and that was a very lovely surprise! The room was super, spacious, elegantly decorated, had a wonderful comfortable bed and had beautiful views from the room and large balcony. The homemade biscuits brought to the room each evening were a nice touch. We enjoyed a few quiet drinks on our balcony watching the sun go down each evening. Very nice shower in the bathroom too. The breakfast here was the best we had in our three week trip and 8 different hotels (including some very fancy 5* places). It was a fairly simple buffet but we loved the large array of delicious fruit on offer, the delicious bakery items and the loose leaf tea made me very happy indeed! If there had been a bar in house we would have made use of the beautiful lounge / terrace area - which looked very comfortable (maybe something for the hotel owners to consider?) but the hotel is an easy stroll to nearby bars and restaurants.

This is the only place to stay in Valparaiso. A beautiful hotel with amazing staff and the perfect location.||Location is in one of the two areas with the best street art. Steps away from great restaurants. Immediately next door to a fine arts museum that is absolutely worth a visit. Directly on a little plaza perfect for people watching. Our room had a balcony, and I spent hours just relaxing on the balcony, looking at the ships in the harbor and the light changing on the tin-roofed buildings on the hills.||Staff go above and beyond. Before we arrived, they arranged transportation for us from Santiago and to areas near Valparaiso. Once we arrived, we were, for various reasons, more needy on this leg of our trip than we usually are. Everyone at the front desk was smiling and helpful every time we interacted with them.||Our room and bathroom were large and comfortable. The breakfast was the best breakfast buffet I've had anywhere, down to individual teapots for those of us who drink tea instead of coffee. One morning there wasn't a buffet for some reason, but the staff arranged for just the two of us an almost embarrassingly large breakfast spread anyway. Finally, the hotel has charming public spaces, such as a wide patio and a reading/games room.||My only tips:|--WhatsApp is better than email for communicating with staff.|--The street to access the hotel can be a bit tricky, such that the hotel is sometimes better approached by reversing down the street from just uphill of the hotel. Locals understood how to handle it; I absolutely don't recommend driving there yourself in a rental car (also rental cars are easily identifiable and yes, we saw them with tires punctured).||Valparaiso is 100% worth more than a day visit, and where you stay in Valparaiso makes all the difference. As we walked around, I saw the other hotels we'd considered. They seemed fine, but I loved Palacio Astoreca!

A beautiful hotel that has a calm feeling, a lovely terrace view of the sea, good rooms, good location and friendly service. The staff were more than happy to recommend places to visit and very welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic and we enjoyed drinks from the bar on the terrace late afternoon. The beds are comfy, the shower (and view) amazing, no noise can be heard from outside with the windows shut so you can get a good night's sleep. Overall a great place to stay.

Great room, we upgraded to the top floor, comfy bed. The spa was not great because nothing was very hot in the sauna or hot tub but it was relaxing. Breakfast was included and great, lots of options for food and coffee. it is the best location. The h dinner plans.concierge was helpful wit

Friendly helpful staff. Lovely fresh breakfast. The room with a balcony had a great view of the bay and the city. There’s no restaurant there or drinks license but they open your own wine and beer if you bring some in. Decor and comfort level is in keeping with this glorious old building. It’s easy to walk over to the busier parts of the town. And Uber came in very useful too. We enjoyed the whole experience.

We had a two night stay in a Premium room that was spacious, clean and well furnished with a sofa, chair, desk and table. Bottles of water were provided. View from the room was nice with a part view of the bay. The public areas were pleasant with a large outdoor terrace with a view over a small plaza and some restaurants nearby. The staff would kindly serve drinks to guests on the terrace. Breakfast was served downstairs and was adequate but nothing special. Although the description of the hotel stated that a restaurant was available, at the present time the restaurant is closed. All staff were welcoming and helpful. The day we checked out we had a very early departure at 5 am and the staff had coffee available and a very generous breakfast bag for us to take with us. This was very much appreciated. The reason I have rated the hotel very good rather than excellent is that room key cards were not functioning so every time a guest needed to access their room someone from reception had to accompany them and open the door. I'm sure the problem will be fixed but it lasted the entire time we were there.

This is a charming hotel in a beautiful location. The rooms are cozy and we had a perfect view of the water. They added a comfortable rollaway bed for our daughter. The staff here are super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice as well - fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, bacon and eggs - simple but delicious. It is an older hotel and that is evident in the rooms, specifically the bathrooms. The pool was heated and pleasant but also felt like it needed some updating (just cosmetic issues). There is an elevator but it wasn't working during our stay - something to check if you have mobility issues. But we felt that everything else about the hotel makes up for those minor details. We would definitely stay here again!
