AC Palacio del Carmen (Santiago de Compostela, Galicia) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Santiago de Compostela is a picturesque Medieval city in the northwestern region of Gallicia—quite literally as far as you can get from such Spanish travel hotspots as Barcelona, the Balearics, and Bilbao. It’s a formidable tourist destination in its own right, but one with an old-fashioned bent, centered more on sightseeing and culture than on nightlife and debauchery—though when the pilgrims mass on St. James’s day, a certain upright and highly moral brand of chaos ensues." - Tablet Hotels

Pleasant enough hotel in a quiet part of town. Nice room stayed here because we could park the car in our road trip so a plus ||Hotel is 15 minutes walk up a gentle hill to the town. Plus a few more steps to the cathedral. 25 min to non tourist shopping areas. No Uber here and notice in hotel about very long wait for taxis. But since we had already been walking a lot these were not issues for us but could be for others. ||We had a nice local meal in their restaurant ||Main issues were the long walk to the room from under a blazing sun, despite the shades on the roof. . It was rally oppressive. I could see tour companies block book rooms here so felt as independent travellers we were put in the furthest possible rooms away ||My iPad and iPhone couldn’t connect to wifi at all for two days. Front desk couldn’t help. Others having same issue. Worked perfectly elsewhere. And No prob with husbands laptop. I had set aside a day to get some important done so that was a real problem for me ||No proper coffee machine. Just one for espresso with two tiny paper cups. For such a hotel chain you would expect china like elsewhere.

This was definitely the culmination and reward after 35 days on the Camino de Santiago staying at various albergues and hotels||The room was phenomenal with a large tub with enormous shutter windows overlooking the courtyard. Crisp cotton sheets are a big deal to me and in that area the large king size bed exceeded expectations. The room was the most spacious of the entire trip.||The included breakfast buffet was five stars easily with a huge selection of pastries, hot and cold items coffees and juices. The bar area was a great place to sit and relax with a drink. The staff was phenomenal and even helped me with a car service to the airport. ||To note, it is not exceptionally close to the cathedral or city center — maybe a 10 minute walk? I didn’t mind being in a quiet area and actually appreciated it, but if you are expecting to walk out the door and be surrounded by restaurants, you’ll want to be closer to city center. (The cathedral was visible from my window.)

We stayed here at the end of our Camino from Lisbon. All of the staff were nice and attentive. My wife came down with pneumonia and was hospitalized for 5 days, causing us to delay our flights home. The hotel General manager extended our stay at a very generous rate and made sure we had everything we needed. The most impressive piece to this was that every staff member from housekeeping to breakfast room to front desk knew of my wife's condition and always asked about her recovery and how I was holding up. These are very good people. Please stay here, you will enjoy every minute. Thank you to all the team members at Hotel Palacio del Carmen. You're the best. 🙏

This is a good choice when staying in Santiago. It’s maybe a 10 minute walk to the Cathedral with a location in a quiet - non touristy - street. We used points for our stay and thought it was good value. Room was ok, the person upstairs could be heard walking about into the evening and early morning. Nice bar area, better than average breakfast. Helpful front office staff. I’d stay again.

I love hotels that keep as much of the original building in tact and this hotel did just that. The room was large with a comfortable king bed and dark wood floors. We did have a problem with the upstairs room as the people walked so heavy it sounded the horses stomping on the ceiling. Also, the bathroom needs updating but worked just fine. It is a 10 to 15 minute to the city center and it’s uphill but we enjoyed the walk.

Good hotel not far from the center of Santiago de Compostela. Clean room and a 24/7 gym and pool. Great architecture and great staff. Also has a nice breakfast buffet.

A quiet hotel in close proximity to the cathedral and old town in general. The staff is very pleasant and the food is tasty. The facilities are classic, rustic yet elegant. I enjoyed my stay and I am glad we had a nice room with a relaxing view.

Google
Very nice hotel in a quiet area just a shot walk to the Cathedral. They have an amazing breakfast buffet. Highly recommended, though if they have your email address they will spam you asking for reviews. Very unprofessional for Marriott to do this.

Yelp
Hidden on the edge of Santiago is this former convent turned hotel. A gem in the Marriott Autograph Collection, it's a nifty place for those seeking something a little different. With free parking and decent WiFi, you'll find a good stay will follow. The rooms are clearly the old dorms with an adequate living space and bathroom. The beds are not very soft but they are satisfactory. It's not much frills but it's a solid experience. The hotel is a short walk to the cathedral and hot spots. The hotel staff are friendly and very helpful. We got a rate of $80USD a night which was a bargain and about what I felt we got in value and frills.

Yelp
This is now toward the top of my list of the favorite hotels at which I have stayed. The uniqueness of the facility made it a memorable experience. It was a wonderful part of my visit to the beautiful city of Santiago. The proximity to the city center made it a great base for the weekend. I arrived in Santiago via air. I took a taxi to the hotel as this was the only alternative that made sense. The cost was fortunately not unreasonable as it was €21 plus tip. The drive took about 15 minutes. I was favorably impressed with the hotel at first sight. The building sported a very unique look and was extremely attractive. It was especially lovely with the night lighting. I found out later that the facility was originally a tannery and then a convent before being converted to a hotel. The character of the structure was well preserved. The location was well situated as it was approximately a 15-minute walk to the Cathedral. I was checked in by an amiable front desk agent who assigned me a preferred room on the first level. My interactions with the staff were all positive and I was favorably impressed with their professionalism and attitude. They were helpful and attentive when I needed information. I was pleasantly taken with my room. I loved the character presented with the preservation and decor. The shutters on the windows were a great touch. The bathroom was one of the best I have had in a room as it was very large with a double sink. There was a bathtub and a separate shower compartment. The bed was comfortable and the environs were quiet allowing me good sleep. Another nice aspect was the view as the Cathedral could be seen in the distance. At night when it was lit, it was a particularly gorgeous sight. The morning breakfast was nicely conceived. The dining room, located by the courtyard, was beautifully presented. This created a relaxing ambiance for a morning meal. The format was a combination of buffet and table service. Hot items were made to order while the cold items such as breads, yogurt, juices, etc. were arranged on perimeter tables. The selection was quite good and I also was very happy with the coffee. The service was also rather good. The room rate for my Friday and Saturday night stay was unbelievably reasonable considering the quality of my experience. With breakfast included as well as taxes added in, my final bill was just over €100 per night. This was less than $115 USD with the exchange rate at the time. This was probably the best deal I have ever experienced with a hotel stay. I was very happy with the value. Overall, this was one of the best stays I have had at any hotel at any time. This visit will live in my memory for a long time. I cannot recommend this place enough if you are visiting the wonderful city of Santiago de Compostela.

Yelp
This is the best AC hotel I've been to. It is not in the center of where all restaurants, shops and people are but it's within walking distance and just 5 min from the main big cathedral. It's soooo peaceful and charming. I stayed at two different rooms and all were very lovely. Spacious but feel very cozy and comfortable. I loved Nespresso machine and my upgraded room came with free minibar. The restaurant on site was good but I think getting one main dish and maybe one appetizer you like is a better deal than fixed 3 course menu. Breakfast was good. If you have Marriott status, you can get 1/2 discount and for 7 Euro, it's a good deal as you get great croissants and yogurts, fruits and egg dish with awesome nespresso coffee. There are a few good restaurants nearby if you don't want to walk too much. Also supermarket. Very attentive staff. I love this place!

Yelp
Excellent service and rooms. Impressed from the get-go with the location which is walking distance from cafes and the Cathedral. The lobby had modern furniture and Gallic walls and floors. There is also a patio in the front which was nice to sit and have wine at night. The backyard is also green and lush. Our rooms also had a little patio for fresh air. The room had a mini bar and complimentary water. The lighting was ample. The card keys worked. Each room has an individual Wifi password. The connection was strong enough to watch Netflix. They had a water heater and coffee maker in the room, and one in the lobby available for late hours. There is wifi in the lobby for use also, and a computer with a printer for use. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Great location, but grossly under staffed. Room was dark and "stuffy" smelling. Marriott should not put their brand on this hotel unless changes are made. Price was OK.
