Palais Mailberger Hof (Vienna, Austria) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Palais Mailberger Hof occupies a 17th-century baroque palace whose aristocratic origins are still visible in vaulted ceilings, stone archways, and preserved architectural flourishes. Now a heritage-protected hotel, it offers fifty individually designed rooms that favor simplicity over ornament, allowing the building’s history to take precedence. Guests can begin the day in the courtyard garden when weather allows, before stepping out to Vienna’s cultural landmarks: St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the State Opera, and the grand shopping streets all a short walk away." - Tablet Hotels

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves to be documented. I had a reservation at Hotel Palais Mailberger Hof through Booking.com. During the pre-stay period, I received two separate WhatsApp scam messages containing my full name, stay dates and booking details. Fortunately, I immediately recognized them as fraudulent, but had I been an elderly or less experienced guest, I could have easily been scammed. What disappointed me most was how the hotel handled the situation. Despite acknowledging the issue, they repeatedly stated that it was “not their responsibility” and attributed everything to Booking.com, offering no gesture of goodwill whatsoever — not even something symbolic like breakfast or spa access. From a hotel positioning itself in the upper segment, this was unexpected. Additionally, it was never clearly communicated in advance that the rooms booked were attic rooms, which only added to the frustration. I understand legal responsibility can be complex, but good hospitality is about standing with the guest, not distancing yourself from a real problem. Other high-end hotels I have stayed at worldwide handled comparable situations with far more care and professionalism. In the end, I chose to cancel the reservation. The issue was not the scam itself, but the rigid, defensive and customer-unfriendly attitude shown throughout the communication.

The hotel's central location is highly advantageous, offering convenient access to all local attractions. The staff consistently demonstrates courtesy and efficiency in addressing all inquiries and requests. The breakfast service is exceptional, featuring a delicious and varied selection presented with elegance. Upon our early morning departure, the hotel thoughtfully provided a packed meal for our journey.

Went to Vienna on a trip with my wife, and met a perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort. The staff are exceptionally attentive, I especially would like to highlight the Hotel Manager Mr. Rudrof, who did an excellent job in making this a special stay for us. The central location is ideal, and the quiet, high ceiling rooms (I think the latter only in the 1st floor?) provide a wonderful retreat. The breakfast was fantastic and attracts also external guests. Highly recommended for a sophisticated stay in Vienna.

As a frequent visitor in Vienna, I was very enthusiastic when I booked this new renovated hotel. However, it turned out to be the worst accomodation ever in Vienna in the last 20 years. I checked in smoothly and received the assigned room keys with my name on it on the 3rd floor. Since the keys were not working, the guy helping me with luggages opened it and found there were people inside. Such a shame! He talked on the phone with the staff at the recepsion who explained that, that particular room was given to other guests, and apparently, I was given theirs on the 1st floor in the very corner of the building. The arrangement of the room was ridiculous, with a windy corridor and an inappropriate for normal use bathroom. The bathroom door has almost the same width of the distance between two bathroom walls, so one should be thinking of how to get in and out. Accompanied by my mother of an old age, that room was not good for her. Therefore, I explained all this to the lady (blond hair) at the reception, who was being very defensive and arrogant. I asked for another solution, but they did not have any. So, I was stuck in that very basic inconvenient room which was very expensive. It was also discussed the possibility for finding a solution the next day, but none reached me, not even to say that it was not possible. As this was not enough, I was insulted when I was offered one free breakfast... I was speechless !!!

My daughter and I had a wonderful two night stay here. Although the location is in the heart of the city (The State Opera is a 2 minute walk) the Hotel itself is quietly luxurious. The Spa is open around the clock and doesn't cost extra as they usually do in the UK. It is small but has a sauna, some gym equipment and showers and towels. Dressing gowns, slippers and towels are all provided in the rooms. The spa has some refreshments provided (herbal teas, water and fruit) for guests to help themselves. The rooms have water and fruit but you can get hot drinks anytime in the bar/restaurant or brought to your room. Our room overlooked the courtyard where there are comfortable armchairs in which to relax. The room was very comfortable with high quality bedding and toiletries. The staff made everything special. Whatever we needed was ours for the asking. Their catchphrase seems to be 'everything is possible' and all with a smile. Breakfast is fabulous. Everything beautifully cooked and presented with a huge variety to choose from. I would like to thank the staff for making our stay in Vienna extra special.

Absolutely excellent service from reception - Jana & Nancy were both lovely and so helpful. This hotel is in a perfect location, very central & near metro. Large & modern rooms. Small gym & spa area. All spotless and beautiful interior. Compared to other hotels at a similar price, this feels a quality place at a good value.
