A Hidden Gem in Venice – Peaceful, Scenic, and Exceptionally Welcoming Hotel Barbarigo is a fantastic place to stay if you're visiting Venice and want to experience the city without being surrounded by crowds. It’s ideally located — just off the main tourist paths, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet — yet it's still an easy walk to pretty much anywhere you'd want to go. The hotel itself is right on the Grand Canal, which makes for beautiful views and a truly Venetian atmosphere. One of the standout features is that it has its own water taxi stop — such a convenient perk that makes arrival and departure completely hassle-free, especially with luggage. Inside, the hotel is quiet and comfortable, and the service is truly exceptional. The staff are warm, friendly, and go out of their way to make sure you feel at home. If you're looking for a more serene and authentic stay in Venice without sacrificing convenience, Hotel Barbarigo is an excellent choice.

My partner and I couldn't have picked a better hotel for our holiday! We spent a week here, which is family run by a brother and sister who make you feel so welcome from the moment you book. Even before we arrived, Nicoletta had very kindly made a reservation for us to take a boat from the airport straight to the hotel's very own dock on the grand canal - I would highly recommend this amazing experience. We were always greeted with smiles despite the long long hours they worked, and they were so helpful if we had questions. The breakfast with amazing grand canal views was the perfect start to every day! Our room was also amazing - a really big suite with a canal view was a real cherry on top of our stay (get in early and book to make sure you don't miss out on this). The location of the hotel is also incredible, like I say right on the grand canal in the middle of it all. There is an alley entrance so you can access the hotel on foot and take yourself wherever you fancy. There's also a vaporetto (water bus) stop very close by so you can use this to get around too. We had an incredible week in Venice and I was highly recommend this hotel for your trip - you will not be disappointed. A huge thank you for making our time in Venice perfect. One tip for plug adapters for Venice would be to check the adapters and make sure you bring the correct one (it's a 3-pin adapter you need to charge your devices).

We stayed at Palazzo Barbarigo from 8–11 September in the Junior Suite No. 10, their best room with three windows (two overlooking the Grand Canal, one over a side canal). I have been coming to Venice for 50 years and stayed at least 50 times in all categories of hotels, including the grandes dames of the city. With that perspective, here is my experience.||First impressions & communication|Booking communication was rocky: the hotel ignored my first email for 48 hours until I sent two reminders. Only then did answers come, after which communication became smoother.||Property & atmosphere|This is not a full-service hotel but more like an upscale bed & breakfast with around a dozen rooms, all facing some water. There is no restaurant. The design is a dark and modern art deco style, almost entirely black. It is not to my taste, and the large first-floor space with an unused bar feels wasted.||Location|The San Polo district is one of Venice’s most authentic and quiet areas, still only minutes from everything. The Vaporetto stop is three minutes away. Access is through narrow alleys, but supermarkets, restaurants, bars, and gelaterie are just around the corner.||Transfers – a serious issue|The most disappointing aspect of my stay was the handling of transfers:| • On arrival, the hotel arranged a private van from Treviso Airport (€90, reasonable) and a water taxi from Piazzale Roma for €70 (their own website lists €65, official tariff €60). The website lists €150 for the complete Treviso transfer, so we were overcharged €10 here.| • On departure, we booked a water taxi to Marco Polo Airport. The hotel charged €150. The official Comune tariff is €115 (€110 base + €5 dock pickup). The hotel’s own website lists €120. When I said I remembered the official rate being €110, the receptionist replied “that was years ago,” which was simply untrue.||We were therefore overcharged compared to both the official tariff and the hotel’s own published rate. More importantly, when I asked explicitly about the correct official rate, I was told something false. That is a serious and unacceptable breach of trust.||Room & comfort|The suite is well-sized, with excellent views. Welcome amenities included a bottle of Prosecco and Venetian pastries.| • Cleanliness: glossy black surfaces, heavy curtains, and fabric wall coverings were dusty. The top of the cupboard with the minibar was not wiped clean for 3 days. Bathroom ventilation did not work.| • Lighting: elaborate but impractical. Some lights did not work; those which do switch on together with a single switch, which is really disturbing at night. There are reading lights above the bed but they are far too strong for night use. So if you need the bathroom at night, you have to use your phone’s torch in order not to wake your partner. The bathroom is very dark.| • Air conditioning: thermostat ineffective. Only full blast (too cold, directly onto bed) or off. No middle setting. All in all, these issues made sleep quality poor.||Breakfast|There is no restaurant. Breakfast quality itself is good: fresh fruit, some fine pastries and cold cuts, nicely presented. The highlight is the exclusive balcony for Suite 10, directly over the Grand Canal – unforgettable. The €5 extra for an egg is absurd at €750 per night.||Staff & service|The hotel is run by a very small team: Nicoletta, the friendly lady at the desk; Stefano, a kind young man handling breakfast (likely her brother); and one inefficient housekeeper in the mornings. Nicoletta is genuinely warm, smiling, and embodies Italian hospitality. On our departure morning, she even stood on the pier waving as we left in the fog. Too bad that only minutes earlier, she had misrepresented the “official” transfer rate. Friendliness cannot cover dishonesty.||Conclusion|Palazzo Barbarigo offers a unique boutique experience: intimate atmosphere, great location, and unforgettable views from Suite 10 and the balcony. The staff are warm and personal. But these positives are outweighed by serious negatives: poor cleanliness, dysfunctional maintenance, and, most importantly, dishonesty about transfer pricing – overcharging compared to both the official tariff and their own published rate.||With honesty, better housekeeping and proper maintenance, this could have been a good stay. As it stands, I cannot recommend this hotel. Ultimately, any hotel review must weigh price paid, expectations, and value received. At this price point, we could have stayed at any of the major full service 4-5 star Venetian hotels; had the rate been half, my assessment might have been more generous. However, nothing can excuse being deliberately misinformed about the official transfer tariff.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel right on the Grand Canal. From the very beginning, the staff responded to all my questions quickly and clearly, and they fulfilled every request I had during our stay. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The view from the hotel is simply stunning, and the location couldn’t be better—just a 2-minute walk from the ferry stop, making it easy to get around Venice. A special thanks to the lovely lady at reception and the gentleman who assisted with breakfast—both were incredibly friendly and helpful, which made our experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable stay in Venice!

I recently stayed at Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo Sul Canal Grande in Venice and had a truly wonderful experience. The hotel is elegant and full of charm, with beautifully decorated rooms that offer a perfect blend of classic Venetian style and modern comfort. The view of the Canal from the room was breathtaking, and waking up to the quiet beauty of the water was unforgettable. The staff were warm, attentive, and always ready to help with recommendations or arrangements. Its peaceful location made it a serene escape, yet still within walking distance to many of Venice’s highlights. Highly recommend for a romantic and relaxing stay in Venice!

Great hotel on the Grand Canal. Near the Rialto Bridge but away from the hustle and bustle there. Quiet and welcoming, and the owner/host is wonderfully helpful and welcoming. She upgraded us to the Grand Canal view and that was wonderful!! We had booked a view of the side canal but the upgrade was extraordinary and we would definitely book that next time! Had a great time staying here, rooms were pretty, got the authentic experience of arriving by water taxi and leaving to explore the city through skinny meandering alleys. Great choice for our 3 days in Venice for the first time.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo. If you are hesitating on where to stay in Venice, look no further! This is the perfect place to stay on the Grand Canal! Centrally located, beautiful boutique hotel, and amazing staff. Nicoletta and Stefano were the most wonderful hosts, from the kind welcome we received (despite our late arrival), the excellent restaurant recommendations, the engaging conversation, we loved getting to know them and their city. We were very impressed by the history of this hotel and the beautiful views of the grand canal. The rooms were very spacious, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast included with our stay was excellent every morning. Although some people mentioned the hotel was hard to find, we didn't have issues finding it with Google maps and we appreciated that the hotel was tucked away in a small alleyway, far from the crowds. We highly recommend this hotel and plan on staying again the next time we are in Venice! Arrivederci!

Yelp
This waterfront hotel is a family run gem! Nicoletta and Stefano are two very hard working hosts. Rooms are small but efficient and a handy bar just outside the door. The views of the canal keeps you entertained and shops and restaurants are just out the door. This hotel has no restaurant but don't worry, breakfast is available and very good. I will not stay anywhere else when in Venice....

Yelp
From the moment our water taxi pulled up to the Grand Canal entrance of this marvelous small hotel, we felt as though we had been transported back to another, more glamorous, time in Venice's past (perhaps the 1920s or 30s?) but one that had been brought up to date with the conveniences and luxuries of 2018! Every morning we had a delicious breakfast in the small dining room; several afternoons we had cocktails in the beautiful bar overlooking the Grand Canal. The staff were all extraordinary polite and helpful, especially VIOLETTE in the bar and DANIELE at the front desk. We can't wait to return!!
