This hotel has been beautifully renovated, respecting the old structure and incorporating modern elements well. The breakfast is plentiful, the location is good, and the staff are friendly. However, my friends had a much larger and nicer room in the annexe for the same price. I was a little disappointed by this.

One of my favorite hotels ever. The way they combined modern style and comforts into this historic building while retaining it's history was truly impressive. Some reviews and travel guides will scare you about the old town neighborhood at night but we find the area around this hotel to be safe, quite, interesting, and beautiful. It was such a great central location to all the places we wanted to see. The service was also great with someone always around to help with directions, recommendations, or anything else we needed.

The hotel is really nice, the frescos on the ceiling are stunning. The room was really small and not very efficient. Service was fine. Location is good, right in the city center however the hotel can only be reached walking because it is in a pedestrian only piazza. Taxis can not drop you off in front of it. Our rate did not include breakfast so we can not review it. The AC in the room was not the best. Also there were a lot of loud fans I. The room that made it difficult to sleep.

The hotel itself was great, the staff was super helpful, and the room (Room 404) was very clean and spacious. My spouse said it was her favorite of the four hotels we stayed in. Minus one star for the AC system. The unit was installed behind the curtains; when the curtains were closed, it trapped cold air, which tricked the thermostat into reading a lower temperature than the room actually was. You had to leave the curtains at least half-way open to cool the room down. Not the most private solution. This room would be an easy 5 stars with a mini-split. Because our room was right below the 5th-floor breakfast/commons area, we heard a lot of footsteps and furniture sliding around early in the morning. It didn't bother me, as I sleep with earplugs, but it did bother my spouse. If you are not familiar with Genoa, then you should know that this city is not for the faint of heart. You will see and smell significant amounts of urine and feces in the narrow alleys (vicoli) all throughout the caruggi.

My wife & I very much enjoyed our recent stay at Palazzo Grillo. We chose it for its location in the Old Town, which was ideal. The ambience was quirky, in a good way, and the staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and travel. Our room was large with a comfortable bed. Our only observation was that some arm chairs or a sofa would have been a good addition. Would definitely stay again.

The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful with any questions. |The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The only small worry that I had was a step down to the bathroom especially in the middle of the night. Having a twin room I was hesitant to leave a light on overnight to light the step to the bathroom. |Please note that the hotel is not accessible by car but it is only a short walk down a lane way over notorious Italian cobble stones. Somewhat difficult with a suitcase. The staff definitely outweighed any inconveniences, making it a very pleasant stay. |The hotel is very close to the port with many restaurants, access to the hop on off bus, the aquarium and a supermarket at Eaterly.

Palazzo Grillo is a very old building transformed into a great modern hotel yet retaining many of its classic features. The hotel is in an historic piazza which adds to its appeal. Before we went the hotel was very helpful in suggesting things to do and in recommending restaurants all of which were spot on. Check in was easy and friendly. We had a Deluxe Double room with a view over the piazza. It was a really good room with everything we needed. As there is no traffic in this part of the city the room was very quiet. The hotel is well positioned so that most of what you will want to see is within walking distance. All the restaurants we went to were less than a five minute walk from the hotel. Breakfast is in a bright room on the fifth floor and has a small terrace. The service and products at breakfast were excellent. Everyone working in the hotel was very friendly and greeted you when coming and going from the hotel. There was a nice atmosphere. On the second floor there is a beautiful room where you can relax, read a book or just have a coffee. I would certainly recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Genoa.

Perfect little hotel for families--they have dropped a very minimal, modern hotel into a beautiful old palazzo with crumbling frescoes and grand staircases, but a glassed-in living room with great furnishings, and beautiful modern amenities. The hotel has very spacious rooms, modern bathrooms, and excellent location. The price was very low given that it was a suite that included space for me and my three teenaged children to sleep, with a loft-style bedroom. We had a car, and the hotel's parking is off-site, but the hotel is easy to find and only a short walk. We had great food in Genoa--the hotel's recommendations were excellent. We enjoyed wandering the streets, and happened to be there on a Sunday when things are less crowded, but many of the sites are still open (most shopping isn't open on Sunday in Genoa, so be advised). We found it so relaxing. The staff are really helpful and friendly.
