The hotel itself was great, the staff was super helpful, and the room (Room 404) was very clean and spacious. My spouse said it was her favorite of the four hotels we stayed in. Minus one star for the AC system. The unit was installed behind the curtains; when the curtains were closed, it trapped cold air, which tricked the thermostat into reading a lower temperature than the room actually was. You had to leave the curtains at least half-way open to cool the room down. Not the most private solution. This room would be an easy 5 stars with a mini-split.
Because our room was right below the 5th-floor breakfast/commons area, we heard a lot of footsteps and furniture sliding around early in the morning. It didn't bother me, as I sleep with earplugs, but it did bother my spouse.
If you are not familiar with Genoa, then you should know that this city is not for the faint of heart. You will see and smell significant amounts of urine and feces in the narrow alleys (vicoli) all throughout the caruggi.
