This is the central property of this tiny village with a beautiful and serene garden as well as exceptional food. Unfortunately we were disappointed by our stay. We booked a premium room with magnificent woodwork, silk wall coverings and plasterwork ceilings but the furnishings and housekeeping were not what one might expect at this price point. The beautiful parquet floor has not seen polish in years, the bureau drawers would not open freely, and the bathroom had an unlevel ground concrete floor with one bare lightbulb over the sink. Our stay began disastrously when my husband sustained a vicious fall on the shower floor. It was as slick as ice and without a grab bar. Unfortunately, the next day a leg of one of our side chairs collapsed under my husband and sent him for his second serious tumble of our stay. The old wooden chair broke into pieces though my husband is not a large man. At this point we considered leaving early, as what was planned as a special stay for our anniversary was fraught with hazards and disappointment. We will not return here but hope the hotel succeeds because of its historical significance and importance to the village.
