"Quirky film director Wes Anderson would feel at home in this tall, skinny, late-1800s building, standing alone atop Millers Point beyond The Rocks. With a gastropub below and chic rooftop cocktail bar above, boutique Hotel Palisade has Sydney Harbour Bridge views to die for." - Sophie Davies

Nestled in the charming and historic Millers Point, the Hotel Palisade is a gem that offers a truly unique experience. On a recent visit, we ventured to the Rooftop bar, drawn by its reputation for stunning 360-degree views of Sydney and its magnificent harbours —and it did not disappoint. Perched in a peaceful and distinctive area, the Rooftop bar combines breathtaking scenery with a relaxed ambiance. The views alone are worth the visit, providing a panorama that captures the beauty of Sydney. With a drink in hand, it’s the perfect spot to soak in the surroundings. The service stood out as exceptional, with the staff ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was vibrant yet calm, with patrons savoring their time with friends and loved ones. While the venue does get busy, visiting on a Saturday afternoon proved to be a fantastic choice. The Hotel Palisade is a destination you'll want to share with friends—and one we'll definitely return to. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking great service, spectacular views, and a memorable outing in Sydney.

The rooftop is gorgeous! Went for a DJ event on a Sunday and the sunset was beautiful - highly recommend! They do food downstairs but I didn’t try - can recommend the Campari Spritz though.

Travelers and local should visit the Palisade, at least for casual drink and the views. The building standing alone on a hill looks like a film set. The interior is beautifully designed and the top floor has some wonder surprises. The drinks are pricey but understandable considering the work they have put into this place and the fabulous views it offers. Reserve in advance but don’t hesitate to try your luck if you haven’t. I recommend this place to friends traveling to Sydney.

I went for drinks on a Sunday afternoon and it was a very chilled crowd, i found it easy to get a seat when we arrived although it was busier when we left. The cocktails pricing is pretty standard but they were tasty and well presented. There's only a small outdoor balcony area but it was lovely to sit on, on a sunny afternoon. The interior decor was lovely and obviously fairly recently refurbished. The lift only takes you to the penultimate level ans then you have to walk up some stairs to the rooftop.

Google
Character and personality, this hotel is unlike other accommodation. Nice views, decor, and a shower for tall people. Yes! The shower head is probably 2 metres high, which means I can actually stand under it - a rarity. Conveniently close to Crown (I came for an event there), Harbour Street Wharf, Miller's Point, and of course the beautiful Barangaroo Reserve.

Stopped in to check it out. The view on the rooftop was absolutely amazing! Plenty of seating, inside and out. Drinks were reasonably priced and well made. Would be a perfect experience if staff was a little friendlier. But don't let that stop it. The view makes up for it.

We made a booking for 8:15pm for dinner tonight at the Public House Pub after working at a show at Roslyn Packer Theatre (a Sunday evening before the Monday public holiday) and were told the kitchen was closed as soon as we arrived. Why in the love of God would you allow dinner reservations on your website and then not keep the kitchen open. The place was packed so I'm sure plenty of paying customers willing to buy food. Totally ridiculous and terrible service that nearly ruined our night. I triple checked the website and can't find any info anywhere about the kitchen closing by 8:15pm. Terrible!

We booked an air conditioned room. The air con was portable and very loud. We booked this accommodation as it had a roof top bar looking over the city. We wanted to go up after arrival to be told we couldn't due to a private function. We then went to sit outside on the tables and chairs provided only to be told we can't sit there as they are reserved. Being a paying guest staying at the hotel this was very disappointing. We knew we wouldn't be able to sleep with the noise in the room. I really needed a peaceful night. I have been going through a lot of late and this was supposed to be a relaxing respite for me.

Yelp
- they not playing about the dress code - we didn't get let in - from what we saw it seemed like a cool vibe - decorations are picturesque - I like how its divvied up into rooms

Yelp
On the two higher floors, Henry Deane is a venue with a lovely view of Sydney Harbour - it's a great place for a special occasion. My companion and I came here to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed Abalone Potato, Patty Pans (but this was not what we expected - we thought it would be individual pieces, but it wasn't), Prawn Tails and a really nice Shiraz. It was a lovely evening - make sure you go out on the balcony, another lovely experience. The whole thing was delightful. Thank you.

Yelp
Pubstop #2 and our group was divided. Half ended up at the rooftop bar (Henry Deane) and the other at the first floor bar (Public House). The rooftop is gorgeous and has very fancy craft cocktails. My niece and I each got the cocktails of the moment... one of us got the summer and the other the fall, knowing us they were probably whisky for me and gin for her. I do remember mine being delicious and I tried to eat my dried orange garnish. Still tasty if tough. It was ridiculously crowded on a Friday night. So we wandered back downstairs and joined the others at the first floor bar. Much more of a traditional pub. One of our group had the espresso martini at both locations and said the downstairs one was better/stronger. BTW the espresso martini was ridiculously popular in Sydney. I think there's some sort of hypnotism going on. I even tried them and I'm a non-coffee person. Service was good at both locations and both places were fun...

Yelp
Having been here before it closed in 2008 all I can say is wowsers, they really timed the opportunity to re-open to perfection. Sitting on Barangaroo's doorstep, when that development was completed, gave the Hotel Palisade a resurgent rise like a Phoenix from the ashes. The Henry Deane rooftop cocktail bar, named after the famous Sydney railway engineer, is the pinaccle of the Palisade. It hosts unrivalled views over Barangaroo, the Hungry Mile, and a good chunk of The Rocks. Also in view is the Harbour Bridge, standing proudly in the background. The prices here, unfortunately, match the views - so for me this is more of a pre-elsewhere or night-capper stop rather than a destination to spend the day/night. I'd do as others suggest and wet your whistle with a walk around Barangaroo and surrounds, before heading here for a quick bite and a pint.

Yelp
Rooftop bar is a must! Amazing service - staff is so friendly and kind. I had the burrata and toast, it was amazing!! Next time I'm back in Sydney, I will definitely be back here.

Yelp
Reborn! Like a hotel that used to be a hotel and is now back to being a, er, hotel. I always looked at this building and thought "Oh, the potential!" but nobody ever did anything with that potential. But now somebody has, and it's great. It's still a bit of a work-in-progress - the bar menu is a bit limited until their commercial kitchen is ready - but there's a great pub on the ground floor, hotel rooms on the middle ones, and a cracking bar up top with views you'd trade in a puppy for. A really cute puppy. Enjoy a walk around Barangaroo then pop in for a pint of pale ale and a bowl of orrecchiette laced with chilli, peas and Atlantic crab, or a big juicy brisket burger and a tin cup of salted potato chips. Call ahead if you want to visit the top bar.

Yelp
Bloody Mary: Cucumber-y for sure, I asked for the second one spicy and then liked it much better. It was decent flavor tho- my pet peeve is a watered down bloody and this avoided that unspeakable error! 4/5 Mac and Cauliflower and Cheese: DO NOT ORDER THIS. I love M&C and also cauliflower and cheese but this was a dry, flavorless mass that I only choked down because I was half starved and it was the first thing out. 1/5 Crispy Pita and Dips: The pita are quite dry - but this was obviously purposeful.. it's just not my favorite to have a cracker-y consistency to a pita I prefer them soft and warm and inviting. My compatriots enjoyed the dips more than I did - one was a red hummus, one was an herbed yogurt and the last was green but I couldn't place the flavor --- maybe avocado? Weakly so? They were all very creamy and definitely palatable but not melt in your mouth delicious. 3/5 Lamb Burger: Although I did not eat this - my friends RAVED about it as they deemed it the best burger of the trip.. and they ate a lot of burgers on this long trip to Aus and NZ. On that note I will award it 5/5. I'll be honest, the only reason we stopped in here was Admiral Nelsons was too full so there wasn't a table available but I'm not disappointed it worked out that way.. service may have been slow but I prefer that so I have time to enjoy my drink. The seating area is also inviting with lots of cute little tables, comfy cushioned couches and other chairs to pull around. Decent spot for a drink and a snack - but not a destination for dinner if that's what you're after.

Yelp
Fantastic spot- second to none in terms of views! Felt like you were dining and drinking on cloud nine . Delightful service - really patient and attentive wait staff; whilst equally leaving you spade to enjoy the ambience. We had a late lunch at Henry Deane on top floor- highly recommend going at an off peak time. We booked for 2:30pm which meant we missed peak Fri lunch and avoided the early afternoon driving crowd. I would not miss out on the view upstairs but the menu is more expensive and a bit more formal than the public bar downstairs- depending on what you are after, but well worth it! All seats have a great view so no need to worry about that. Superb use of space, mesmerizing views and a relaxed vibe. Great cocktails too! Food was also good- we had the dips, haloumi salad, crab rolls (my favorite) cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the food was good but not sensational. You are there for the views anyway. Easily the best view in Sydney- a must for a tourist or even if it is your home town!

Yelp
Well that was a surprise. Last time I drove past I was sure this was closed. Now, head on up to Level 4 for a stunning view of the harbour, more beautiful people than you can shake a stick at, and at least on the Sunday we rocked in a DJ spinning some cool music. The cocktails look stunning, all the bar staff clearly know their stuff, with nary a recipe book to be seen and a wide range of amazing looking cocktails being created and consumed. Cook cut glass decanters and some glasses, pink leather sofas and can furniture with an art-deco / tropical feel. Several side rooms for small groups and another level with balcony also. Didn't eat, but for sure will next time. Menu looked interesting both upstairs and down in the main bar. Will be back - recommend a look.

Yelp
This is a great spot for a night out - and a particularly good place to take a visitor from out of town. So head to millers point. The ground floor is what feels like a pretty typical pub - quite nice but not that exciting. So you need to get in the lift! Head up to the 4th floor where it is another world - a much more modern bar set up and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating on the 4th floor is cigarette friendly. You can then also head up to the 5th floor which has a bigger outdoor deck (but no smoking) and a more open indoor area. Service was good and friendly - it was busy on a Friday night but we were able to get a table and get some snacks fairly promptly. A nice occasion spot

Yelp
Fantastic setting with views of Darling Harbour and the Harbour Bridge. Brilliant sharing plate food and great wine to accompany it. Casual, comfortable seating. Lovely staff.

Yelp
REVIEW FOR THE HOTEL! Yes there are some bars and restaurants here but this is for the hotel. We stayed here for 2 nights (it was supposed to be 3-thanks stupid weather in delaying our flight). The staff was super accommodating to me changing it to less days last minute and didn't charge us anything for the change in days. Thank you! This is one of those small hotels that still let you reserve without a credit card so we really appreciated that. Check in was like a bed and breakfast with a small staff and someone walked us to the room to show us around. We felt really special since there are not many rooms in the hotel. The room is small-but that was not a surprise. You sacrifice space for amazing views, a great balcony (some rooms have them some don't), great service and some fun upgrades. Since the restaurants and bars only go at night we got vouchers to have "brekkie" at a local cafe. How fun. And that place was great. I am not sure if they change the cafe since there are many close by but all the ones in the area seemed nice. The room key gets you to all the levels and priority at the bars so we were able to check out the restaurant while they were cleaning and see the views in the day time. We did go to ground floor bar one night and really like the beer and cider selection. And since the bars close relatively early we never had a problem with noise. Cheers Mates! We had a lovely time

Yelp
We stayed across the street at the Rock's Cottages. It was conveniently located within a very short walk. We visited the 4th and 5th floor on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was full but we did receive bar service. The views were very good. Nothing exclusive but it was a different perspective from a historical location. The 1st floor bar was also excellent. We enjoyed a few beers on a different occasions on the first floor. I've seen reviews that said it felt "snobbish" but I didn't feel that at all. In fact I wore a t-shirt and shorts and it was absolutely fine.

Yelp
Walking into the Palisade Hotel and seeing all the different floors is like taking a lesson in class structure. On the ground floor it's the laid back, working class vibe, with wooden and industrial features and standard bar tables and booths. Head up to the top floor and it's decidedly middle class, with plush lounges, sparkling glasses and city views. For those in the upper echelons of society, there are private rooms and spaces so that you are able to socialise with your similarly cultured friends, without any risk of the riff raff disturbing you. But in all seriousness this is a fantastic pub/bar that's worth a visit, no matter what class you are or aspire to be.

Yelp
It has been months since I wanted to go to this place! My parents visiting me, I suggested we tested this fabulous place. No disappointment, the view was stunning and the food to share delicious. Downside of having the perfect bar at the perfect place, it is a little bit overpriced.. but totally worth!

Yelp
It feels great to be in a good place ..... This Pub / Hotel makes you experience that with its period decor and rustic surroundings ..... feels great to have awesome views in your constant sight ..... get upstairs and it feels more modern .... a little fancy and lots of fun .... the views ..... still there and even better ..... it's got great things to eat & drink ..... a place for mates or dates .....

Yelp
This place was remodeling their kitchen, so the limited food items they did have, I did not try. The place is rather old and historic, and has a great pub on the first floor. They have indoor and outdoor seating in what can be categorized as a great European style pub with Australian feel to it. It is warm and friendly and by far a great place to relax for a few pints. The top floor which you can get to by elevator is a more "Sex in the City' style bar with a neat sitting area and a great balcony to view the city. The feel of the room did not really agree with my pub crawling nature for the day so I didn't stay too long upstairs. I ran into enough women dressed up with enough perfume to drown a small child, that I realized this was meant for the younger crowd looking for something to finish off their drinks with vice blowing off steam after work. The first floor was right up my alley with the laid back nature, out door seating, and very friendly crowd. Competing with guys peacocking and girls looking for a one night adventure is on the roof was not my intention. I prefer to relax, stretch out, and soak in the atmosphere on the first floor. This place is great when you are in a large group and you don't know which way you want to go...

Yelp
Had lunch in the Palisade on Friday 24th July 2015 with friends. It re -opened this week after being closed for many years. The new decor is retro plus shabby chique. The place was packed with a crowd of office workers and staff were under pressure, hence getting served for a beer or food was slow. A pint of Tooheys beer cost $10 . We began with a few snack bowls which were of popcorn, pork crackling and cheese sticks which were quite tasty ($22 ).Our main courses were $22. The food was served quickly. I had grilled salmon which was perfectly moist and succulent and thankfully not raw , three mates had a chicken pie which was so tasty one guy bought a second . Another friend had The lamb shank which was cooked to perfection . We had a large side salad ($16) + of roast pumpkin, parsley ,chick peas and cous cous which was sensational. This is a fabulous location in The Rocks overlooking Barangaroo park .I recomend you visit.

Yelp
Great place, stunning views, amazing drinks. But maybe the manager (tall bloke) should learn a lesson or two about customer service with the bartenders. Rude attitude. Otherwise I'd give it a 5 stars.

Suzzie B.

Yelp
Very posh and loved the view from the roof top bar and restaurant! The ground floor is a bit divey and plain for a pub. The upstairs was where you need to be! The view of the bridge is amazing and relaxing. The room to the side was comfy and private. We really enjoyed our time inside and outside!

Frances D.

Yelp
We normally love this place & have been going in there for several years since it opened. Had a bad experience today at lunch today though. Waited 25 minutes for a cheese & meats platter, once we chased it up it came out after another ten minutes and then was SO disappointing. Tiny slivers of unappetising meats and two tiny wedges of cheese that had clearly just come out of the fridge. For $28!!! Such a shame. Sort it out Palisades, it's letting you down.

Kym L.

Yelp
Went for lunch for leisure, it was out of this world amazing, service above and beyond, great fit out. Called for work to enquire about hiring the space and was given heaps of 'tude when asking hire prices and availability over the phone. Sadly this venue can't be included on a list of possibilities for a VIP function. Maybe drop the Studio 54 style client service.

Charles J.

Yelp
Can't say enough about Hotel Palisades in Sydney. The rooms, the top floor lounge, the music, the staff, the mojitos! (Ask for James) Room REGI JAMES and NOEL BANFIELD gain the rank of room 219 at the Beacon Hotel in South Beach as the only rooms I stay in, in said cities.

Mike K.

Yelp
Hesitant to review this place and let the secret out. This place has killer views of the harbor bridge and if the harbor. The drinks are pricey but you're paying for the view. Definitely worth a stop.
