We had a 4 night stay at Hotel Panoramic, it was a last minute booking due to a change in our travel plans. We paid £300 for the stay. We were a little concerned by the reviews and the responses given to any criticism, constructive or not, that the reviews contained.
We were pleasantly surprised!
The hotel is on a very small access road and a car is needed but to be honest, I can’t see many people staying in the Tuscan area without hiring a car. It’s worth being just outside of the thick of things to see the views and feel the silence! It’s stunning!! Eating breakfast on a terrance overlooking montepulciano, beautiful! Montepulciano is a 5 minute drive from the hotel, there are small fruit stalls and a large supermarket also within 5 minutes of the hotel.
We stayed in a small superior double, we had a kingsize bed (2 singles pushed together), a chair to sit in and a small balcony. There was a small chest of drawers but the only hanging space was on a clothes rail that was a bit buckled. It served us for what we needed but you may struggle if you are staying longer or if you have a need for a joining rooms as the rail blocked the door for this.
The rooms are basic but very clean and serviced daily, there is a fridge in each room with a fairly large capacity. The bathroom was very large as was the shower cubicle. have a Mattresses are firm but that is to our liking. You can request extra pillows if one is not enough.
The breakfast is basic but enjoyable all the same. It was the same each day and consists of; a croissant, butter, various jams, cereal biscuits, Melba toast, cheese and small sandwiches, Hot drinks including coffee and tea as well as water on request. The only constructive feedback would be a request for some fruit or yoghurt to be substituted for some of the biscuits, but we just bought some fruit from the local shop to subsidise it.
I would not bother with the hotel coffee machine, it is €1 and barely a mouthful of cappuccino however we had our fill at breakfast and staff were very happy to bring you more than one drink or some water. The vending machine prices were not marked up hugely but we found it cheaper just to buy from the supermarket and keep in our fridge.
The fridge doesn’t remain on if you leave the room, this may be an issue if you need to store meds or perishable but we didn’t have a need to try and resolve it, I’m sure they could if needed.
We did not use the pool, unfortunately the weather wasn’t great while we were there and we found the pool was not heated. This appeared to be common amongst the other guests accommodation though, even at venues that cost a lot more!
Overall, we paid similar to what a premier inn would cost us in the uk, in return we had incredible views, a comfortable bed in a clean room, a breakfast, access to beautiful walks and short journeys to beautiful towns!
Staff were very friendly and happy to help, we didn’t have issues with the time that reception was manned, they also have a system in place when you return to the hotel late.
Upon check out we did have a slight issue that we were asked to pay the tourist tax at 6am, just as we were running to catch a flight. We were told the card machine wasn’t available, we luckily had cash on us and had to pay for the other couple that were staying as we weren’t sure if they had We feel that they had cash.
We do feel that we got very good value for money and we were extremely lucky that there were rooms available so last minute.
