Hotel Parq Central

"Why book? A thoughtfully reimagined 1926 railroad hospital, Hotel Parq Central offers a serene stay along historic Route 66 and between the city’s most-visited neighborhoods. While brimming with history, it still feels welcoming to today’s convenience-seeking travelers. Set the scene Once a hilltop outpost, Hotel Parq Central now sits in an urban sea that includes a pair of city hospitals. That location prescribes a heavy dose of doctors and hospital staff as hotel guests. The hotel’s buzzy Apothecary Lounge attracts locals, too.  The backstory Hotel Parq Central got its start as an Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway employee hospital, and the Italiante-style building served as a infirmary of one kind or the other from the roaring ’20s until the 1990s. Local entrepreneurs purchased the languishing structure, undertook a four-year renovation, and reopened it as a boutique hotel in 2010. The transformation preserved the building’s National Register of Historic Places bona fides. The stone-and-stucco façade, including ceramic tiles and windows, as well as interior railings, staircases, and doors have been restored to their original grandeur.  The rooms Original interior tiles inspired the hotel’s sea-glass color palette; shades of mint green and pale turquoise lend a peaceful ambiance to its 74 guest rooms. Wander the main building’s halls to take in curio cabinets with displays devoted to vintage hat boxes, railroad stakes, and other 1920s artifacts. Sun seekers enjoy the light-drenched Conservatory, originally a porte-cochere for arriving hospital patients before it was enclosed, while privacy-loving guests and large families love the nine-room former doctor’s residence housed in a separate building on the back of the two-acre property. Food and drink The hotel serves a morning pastry spread in the former hospital cafeteria. The rooftop Apothecary Lounge reimagines the former nurse’s station as a bar serving Prohibition-era Sazeracs and Pimms Pouches; modern-day cocktails, like prickly pear margaritas; and light bites, such as deep-fried green chile strips. Don’t miss clever details in the décor, including a wall papered with vintage witch hazel, castor oil, and tonic bottle labels and a coffin-trolley-turned-table. Panoramic downtown views await on the roof deck.  The neighborhood/area Within easy reach of indie-shopping and dining district Nob Hill, the university area, and nightlife-rich downtown, EDo (East Downtown) is often overlooked among its attention-grabbing neighbors. It’s carving out its own identity with restaurants such as Holy Burger and The Grove Café & Market, locally owned boutiques, and yoga studios. The service Easy-going staff can arrange a ride for you in the hotel’s vehicle within three miles of its location. Eco effort The hotel offers a cursory sustainability nod with LED (energy-efficient) lighting and, when the guests request it, not swapping linens throughout their stays. Accessibility Hotel Parq Central is ADA compliant; however, some guests using wheelchairs have commented that small guest rooms limit mobility. Anything left to mention? Although a stone’s throw away from Interstate 25, the guest rooms and hotel’s outdoor courtyard are surprisingly quiet. If this is a concern, ask for a room at the west side of the property, the farthest away from potential traffic noise." - Ashley M. Biggers

Our stay was wonderful, and the building was beautiful! From the moment we arrived, check-in was easy and the staff was kind. From the outside, I was a little worried the hotel would be dated, but it absolutely was not! There is so much charm to this place and the history can definitely be seen. Our room was clean, decorated nicely, and very comfortable. We stayed in a small suite, but we honestly could have easily done without the little living area. The bathroom was also very spacious! We had a great view from our room and bathroom into the courtyard below and of the trees. The rooftop lounge was a definite highlight, which will get its own review from me. Breakfast was another standout, more than just continental, with pastries, breads, cereal, eggs, pancakes, parfaits, and juices. It added value for sure. The unique thing that I fell in love with during our 1 night stay was the history. The building used to be a hospital, and the hotel has honored that past beautifully. The floors display pieces that almost feel like museum exhibits, which makes exploring the property part of the experience. The balance of modern looks and comfort and preserves history made this place memorable and gave it so much character.

Beautifully restored historic building with well appointed decor and inviting garden patio area. Quiet area with easy access to major highway.||The suite was quiet and relaxing with high ceilings and room darkening shades. Comfortable bed and premium bedding. The bath was amazing with large premium shower and expansive sink vanity with high end toiletries and generous bath linens. ||The front desk was friendly, helpful, professional and went above and beyond to make our anniversary stay memorable.||Great value for this historic boutique hotel. Definitely recommend.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Parq Central and couldn't be happier about the choice of hotel we made. We got there four hours before check in time and within minutes of our arrival were picked up by Lydia who was very friendly and took us to the hotel. When we arrived, Cynthia at the front desk greeted us and she was so nice to check us into our rooms when she saw my senior mom and aunt and how tired we were from a 16 hour train ride. The rooms were great and clean. Every time I went to the front desk to ask questions and get directions Cynthia greeted me with a warm smile and gave me information. Everyone at the front desk and the breakfast place was friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. The building was beautiful and clean, staff very friendly, and the grounds beautiful.||The only thing that could be improved is the quality of the breakfast. The eggs are kept under heat lamps but were cold. Shayne at the breakfast place was very friendly. He was constantly checking on everyone to make sure they were okay and to see if they needed anything. Also, it would be nice to have access to the roof top just to sit there and not have to order drinks.

Google
The service was excellent and made us feel welcomed, with two employees on duty at the desk after midnight. We were shown directly to our room and given a brief tour, which was a nice touch. But in basically every other respect, the hotel has seen better days. Maintenance and cleanliness are not being addressed at a high level, with peeling paint and insect remains found inside their cottage suite (the fancy one). The bathtub needs to be refinished, with an old plug that looks like it was bought about 10 years ago. It seems like either effort or money is not available to properly maintain the building and grounds. Breakfast was present, but consisted mostly of small pieces and little Continental flourishes, without even staples like scrambled eggs or full pancakes. Coffee tasted like something you'd get on the railroad. No microwave was present in our room and there was no access to snacks or toiletries. The location is generally excellent and offers access to the Sawmill District. All things considered, it's not a bad time. It just isn't the luxury boutique experience it presents itself as. For the $350 that I spent on one night, I felt that I didn't receive good value for the money. At half the price, I would have been overjoyed with what was offered.

Google
This hotel is so unique and they did a great job upgrading to a really nice and modern hotel while keeping the history alive via little nods to the historic hospital it once was. The rooftop lounge had incredible views and the cocktails were fun and unique. The customer service was above and beyond, and the breakfast was very good as well. Definitely would stay here again! The only downside is proximity to the freeway, but for us (family road trip) that was actually a plus as it was easy to find and convenient. Shout out also to 66 Diner right down the road, good reasonably priced and fun retro decor. Hotel Parq Central was one of our favorite places we stayed on a 9 day, 4000 mile road trip.

We love this hotel, local hotel with lots of history, clean and well decorated room, has flower garden with pigeons, top roof bar is very relaxing and has a good view, food is healthy! Their interior decoration is also worth commendable - old pictures, plants effects and body parts education, plus the price is affordable. One last thing I need to appraise the hotel service: I forgot my jacket in my room, I called the front desk and the lady dropped my jacket to airport, what an excellent service! Sorry I forgot to ask her name. I am so touched! If you look for a hotel at Albuquerque NM, this hotel definitely is the first choice!

My wife and I have stayed several times at this historic and comfortable hotel in the heart of the city just off I-25. The four-story property was built in 1926 as a hospital for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. It became known as Memorial Hospital in 1985. Parq Central was renovated with an eye to detail in 2010 and converted into a 74-room hotel, which also includes 15 luxury suites and 3 cottages. A huge draw is the popular rooftop Apothecary Lounge, which specializes in seasonal cocktails, wine and beer and offers a limited selection of tasty tapas. A continental breakfast is offered downstairs, where diners can eat indoors or dine al fresco on the shaded patio. My only caveat is to be sure and book a room that doesn't face the busy interstate and Central Boulevard because of the traffic noise. Rooms feature high ceilings, walk-in shower and spacious bathroom. Please be advised the beds are rather firm. Be sure to check out the railroad and hospital artifacts cleverly displayed throughout the professionally designed and beautifully landscaped property.

Great hotel! Convenient location, cool history, clean, and the staff is great. Cynthia and Abby were so kind and helpful. The rooftop bar is great too. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel - we did a recent staycation here and we had a great time. I wish we had stayed longer! We stayed in one of the newer rooms in the Cottages and it was just beautiful and spacious and full of natural light. The cleanliness was perfection. I was very impressed with how safe it felt too. The courtyard that we had to walk through to get to our "cottage" was beautifully landscaped, cozy, private, and very secure. We didn't see any other guests although obviously there were some. The beds were pretty comfortable, the blackout shades actually worked, and I loved that there was a variety of pillow types (some more firm, some softer, etc.) so you could find something that worked for you. There were just a lot of those thoughtful details that you don't find in major chain hotels (or even 5 star Vegas hotels). The robes were super cozy and comfortable too and I loved the bath products- they smelled incredible. Unfortunately we didn't have an opportunity to try the breakfast and seeing the pics I'm really sad that we missed out. The one bad mark of note was Apothecary. We had visited a long time ago when we lived closer to the area. We stopped in after coming back from dinner at about 9pm. They weren't supposed to close until 10:30. When we went upstairs it was pretty empty but there were still guests. The bartender semi-rudely told us that they just had last call and were done. When I commented that I thought last call was at 10 based on the sign downstairs, he just said, "Nope, closing early tonight." I get it - it was pretty dead but still disappointing. We turned around to go back down the elevator and he said something like, "well, are you guys staying here?" We said yes and he said that he could do one round. The drinks were good but we probably should've just skipped because we felt like nothing but an inconvenience. I won't hold this against the hotel because that's really the bar but it was pretty disappointing as we wanted to relax and check out the city views.

Yelp
We booked thru Hotels.com as it seems to have the best competitive rates. Our greeting was welcoming & attentive. Check in was fast & efficient. The staff were amazing & helpful. The fridge did not work in our room or our in-laws room. The dog park area was great as it had real grass and bags. The history of the hotel was everywhere and the decor is very nice! Went up to the rooftop was nice and the sunroom was beautiful. Breakfast was good. Secure as you need room key to go to floors, which we liked. We would return if in area.

Yelp
Upon check in I asked the front desk about safety in the area, I stated it seemed janky. Their response was " what do you expect it's Albuquerque"

Yelp
Great little historical property with boutique amenities. Really enjoyed my stay here. Easy shuttle pick up from the airport. Cool little historic neighborhood walking distance to downtown. Free breakfast included. It's allegedly haunted but I didn't see any evidence of that and I looked lol.

Yelp
Nice hotel, great location. Originally built 1926 as a hospital for the railway workers, then turned into a mental hospital. Lol. The hotel was renovated and kept neat elements from the past. Lovey hotel. The Apothecary lounge on the rooftop is amazing with great views of the city. Catch the sunset, order a handcrafted cocktail.

Yelp
Bree, the apparent manager (though I don't believe that's true) was the least helpful and least customer service centered hotel employee that I have ever encountered. After booking a King room, she claimed the "manager" oversold and put me in a small, old double bed room, with an incredibly uncomfortable bed. When I asked to be switched to the king room I booked, she claimed it would be $30 to upgrade. When I asked to cancel the room and book elsewhere, she said that was not possible beyond the booking window. And when I then asked to speak with her manager, she claimed she was the manager. Absolutely zero assistance, and now I have paid for an uncomfortable, old room with a small bed. Avoid this hotel at all costs!

Yelp
Solid hotel. Some say it's haunted. I say nah. Great service, clean rooms. The continental breakfast is way better than what you find at a chain. Another perk is that the breakfast room is open all day with coffee and tea options and seating so it's a nice place to duck in to if you are looking for a break or to get a little work done. We had a meeting here and used one of the meeting rooms on the first floor. Staff were great with getting things set up, food options were good and the food set up for the meeting was nice that it was in a different room from where we were meeting. Fourth floor is restaurant and bar with rooftop seating. Highly recommend. Great space with good views.

Yelp
Parq Central was an amazing hotel. We were visiting from Canada and we received first class service. Cynthia, Dante gave us first class shuttle service and were so helpful and accommodating. Lydia was welcoming and kind. Ate dinner on rooftop to watch the sunset and the view was AMAZING. Beds were comfortable, bathroom spacious. Breakfast was huge spread with lots of options. Definitely will come here again and will recommend this to anyone who does travel to ABQ.

Yelp
Love this hotel having stayed here over the last several years, it's a wonderful historic oasis close to Downtown, great location, nicely restored with fun details, rooms are spotless, comfortable beds, walk in shower and complimentary robes that are a nice touch. Amenities were awesome, the shuttle service within a 3mile radius, breakfast had a good selection, the rooftop lounge, the calm and peaceful courtyard with a fountain and rocking chairs, the solarium. Unlike the usual look a like hotels HPC is pleasantly one of a kind. Thank you to all the superb staff who made our experience more than just a hotel stay, can't wait to go back next time.

Yelp
The Hotel Parq Central is located on the east edge of downtown and the medical districts. Converted from an old hospital the renovation into a hotel is pretty amazing and it was a great place to spend the night as we went through Albuquerque. Our room was clean and modern. The bed was comfortable and the room had all the standard amenities you might expect. The bathroom was large for the size of the room. The staff was efficient at check-in. The parking is a little tight and I was hesitant to park in the driveway to unload, but it all worked out. There are a couple of great spots here for just relaxing. The courtyard off the first floor is beautiful and relaxing. You will quickly forget you are in the middle of the city. The rooftop bar is a great place to escape for the evening to enjoy the sunset and see the lights of Albuquerque at night. We enjoyed our stay and were glad that we tried something new and away from the major brands.

Yelp
This hotel has it all for us: a wonderful location right on Rte. 66 near Nob Hill and close to old town, history, elegant rooms, comfortable beds, a gorgeous lobby with adjacent seating, a very comfortable rooftop bar (inside and outside seating), with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, breakfast with a beautifully landscaped outside seating area, whirlpool. I could go on. And i will! Because I forgot an essential piece, the staff. We were warmly welcomed, given all the information we needed, received great service in the rooftop lounge. There just hadn't been a misstep. So, stay here.

Yelp
OH my gosh! I wasn't sure when I checked in and asked to see my room, a wonderful young man (Adron)? gave me a tour and showed me several rooms before he said I have what you're looking for, room 214 a corner room with lots of light, overlooking the fountain. He saved the day! The room is spotless, great housekeeping, the apothecary on the roof is amazing, always abuzz, craft cocktail bartenders, Michael, Quinn and a young lady will always surprise you, the lite fare food was unique and delicious, I loved this hotel so much I extended my stay after visiting Santa Fe for three more days, Lydia at the front desk was able to secure my same room 214! Thank you Lydia. There is a coffee station and ice drawer on every floor, the complimentary continental breakfast each morning was perfect! Friendly and efficient staff. I understand this property is family owned, my hats off to this family and this very unique property. Forget the location, you're on an island at this hotel.

Yelp
What a horrible, horrible hotel. I had to book a one-night stay to be near my father for his surgery at a nearby hospital. I called at 9:30PM the night before to book a room. The next morning I woke up and tested myself for Covid (a precaution before visiting my dad in the hospital) and it came back positive. Ugh! I immediately called the hotel at 8:30AM to cancel my reservation. They refused to refund my money -- after only booking the room 11 hours earlier! I called and emailed multiple times before I even got a response back. They are rude, lack any sort of empathy and are only in it for the money. DO NOT STAY HERE. They are heartless.

Yelp
I wanted a good hotel for our first Balloon Fiesta experience and this place did not disappoint. We enjoyed our stay. Very clean hotel, looks and feels very upscale. The apothecary lounge on the roof was excellent. The small bites were so good, we ordered it two times in our stay there! The fence surrounding the parking and hotel gives a sense of security that I really loved. The continental breakfast was very good. I would stay again. Major plus was the environmental friendly measures the hotel takes.

Yelp
honestly can only tell you about the lobby and it was "meh"...a little outdated. Here's my story: I was on a business trip to Albuquerque and my trip got extended. The hotel I stayed at, previously, was booked so I chose to book my extra night at Hotel Parq Central. I thought the name was silly, but I liked the "wonderful" reviews on Hotels.com, so I thought I would try it out. My work day was really hard and had me installing furniture outside in 100 degree weather for 12 hours. Needless to say, I was tired and ready for a shower! I even ordered takeout and was ready to call it a night. I arrived at the hotel at 9:30 and when I tried to check-in, the hotel clerk couldn't find my reservation. That is when we discovered that I accidentally booked for the next night by mistake. He told me that I would have to contact hotels.com to fix the mistake and since it was through a 3rd party booking, his hands were tied. I completely understood that. When I contacted hotels.com, they were 100% willing to help me. They just had to called the hotel to make the switch (By the way, I was told they had available rooms). I could hear the conversation in real time. The clerk told them it wasn't their policy to make changes, but he would contact his boss. At this point, I am so tired, I start crying and I beg him to do his best to help me. He goes into another room so I can't hear him. When he comes back, I hear him tell hotels.com that his boss said no. I was completely shocked by this. I made an innocent mistake and I was being punished for it. So, now I feel taken advantage of. This hotel robbed me of money and a peaceful night. Talk about lack of empathy and really crappy customer service!! I will be telling everyone about my experience and since we travel to Albuquerque a lot, I will make sure my colleagues know to blacklist this establishment. Good luck with your hardline, rigid policies. I hope stealing money from tired travelers gives you your jollies. I stayed at the Embassy Suites and when I told them my story, they upgraded my room. So, there is always a silver lining.

Yelp
Ummm, where do I start. I was staying at this hotel during the balloon fiesta. I left my credit card at the lounge after an exhausting day. I called to collect my card the next day and was told that the lounge had returned it to the front desk. I returned at 8 pm and asked for my card and was told it was "locked" in the safe and I could not get it until the following day at 9 am. I flew out at 8:30 am and tried to ask for my card back again, and was refused. I'm now back in California (same day), and now they REFUSE to send me my credit card... what in the actual world??? You are a 24/7 hotel and you confiscate a guests property and don't return it to them.. not to mention the attitude I got from sariah at the front desk when I asked her for my card back. I paid over 1300 dollars to stay at this place to have them refuse to give my credit card back. Fix your customer service.

Yelp
This hotel makes a fantastic first impression. It's got a neat history. It's a cool old building. It's had a first-rate restoration and is very nicely appointed. I liked the bed, I liked the shower. I liked the toiletries. The desk staff were uniformly pleasant. Yes, there is a park full of some really decrepit homeless - I mean like, needles-hanging-from-the-arms decrepit - but it's in the back and if you try not to think about it, it doesn't ruin the experience. So wow, one star, huh? Yeah, I'm THAT angry. So at the time of my visit, the state of New Mexico was under a mask mandate, because a pandemic was ripping through the country. You might remember - a little virus called Covid-19? Might give you the sniffles, might kill you dead? So as you walk into the lobbies of most establishments, including this one, there is a large sign. I took a picture so you could see it, I am attaching it here. It required me - and everyone else - to wear a mask. Despite being fully vaccinated, I complied - because I am polite and - despite whatever my personal feelings about it may be - when there is a mask mandate and everybody else has to do it, I feel like it's only fair. The staff at the hotel all were required to wear masks as well. And they all complied. Oh, with one minor exception: THE GUY WHO HANDLES EVERYBODY'S FOOD - I'll attach two pictures of him to this review as well (in one picture he can be seen picking his teeth next to his masked and gloved coworker, nice huh? maybe he's the owner, idfk). Two days I was there and I had to watch this guy breathe all over the food that was intended for me to EAT, 100% unconcerned and obviously above the rest of us ignorant plebians attempting to be polite as we limp our way through all this uncertainty. I'm actually less concerned that this genius had and/or was spreading covid than I am just pissed that a) he obviously didn't give a single sh*t and b) this hotel ALLOWS him to not give a single sh*t. This guy has no business being there without a mask when you insist that your PATRONS wear a mask, and PARTICULARLY if he's public-facing and handling everybody's FOOD! Put his ass in the back or something taking out the trash or cleaning up the homeless, I don't care. Unbelievable. So because of this, I couldn't enjoy the free breakfast, not that I'm really all that excited for hard boiled eggs and 7-11 danishes anyway. Coffee was good. Sorry though, the coffee and the appointments are not enough. If you can't be arsed to make sure your staff uniformly cares about health and safety to the highest degree, you don't deserve to serve the public. I wouldn't stay there again and if I had known I'd have to deal with this, I wouldn't have stayed in the first place. I'd have rather slept in the park with the homeless - they were all face-down in the grass a minimum of 6 feet apart and not even thinking about serving food to anybody.

Mike B.

Yelp
Super super super friendly staff especial Sahri, very nicely updated, breakfast was complimentary with real plates and a lot yummy pastries and dishes . It seems this hotel should get more stars, we stayed in many other hotel and Airbnb and this one was great, we did not expect it much of a three star hotel so it was such a pleasant surprise. We could tell they tried to preserve and cooperate the historical aspects very well

Robert G.

Yelp
My wife and I stay multiple times a year at PC and have for past 10-12 years, but today I had a bad experience trying to book a room directly with the hotel. I know that a business is as good (or bad) as its people, and until today I would say that our experience has been good. Care provided in trying to book a room today was unsatisfactory and I was so disappointed that I simply booked a room for several nights at a competitive hotel at a rate $50+ more/night.

Yelp
Fun hotel that was formerly a Santa Fe railway hospital now turned into a boutique style hotel. Very clean and well kept. Excellent housekeeping, tightly fitted sheets reminded me of boot camp. Excellent breakfast, especially the chorizo and muffins. Great patio location for eating. Penthouse had an excellent bar with view of ABQ. Hotel Parq Central makes a great impression for ABQ.

Yelp
We stayed here for my birthday. The reason I am giving a 3 star review instead of lower is because the hotel staff was nice upon check in and the room was nice, the bathroom was huge. We had a suite on the 3rd floor. They advertise an upscale continental breakfast, I do not think heating a piece of quiche in the microwave is very professional. For the price we paid for the room we were very disappointed in the breakfast. In the morning our room smelled awful like someone was burning incense. I reported it to the staff upon checkout as well as my complaints about breakfast and was assured I would receive a call from management. That has yet to happen. I even emailed them and still have not received any communication back from them. Very disappointing. I recommend the lounge on the roof top but I do not think we will be staying there again.

Dan F.

Yelp
A great place and not too pricey The upstairs bar was great and so are the rooms We will stay there again. Thanks to staff Thanks to Quinn the waiter. Dan F

Yelp
Perfect stay, so very clean and quiet. My only complaint is lousy coffee. How can you be so chic and serve lousy coffee? All else ranks top-notch!

Yelp
They won't answer calls about private parties or post their policies, will refuse to split checks, will charge you for birthday cupcakes you brought even when everyone ordered food and a drink.. Their manager won't call back about minims or reservations, but will weirdly glare out at you over their half-empty patio. It's not on servers; the drinks are good if pricey and the view is nice. Management is clearly lacking.

Yelp
t's been a while since I posted a review. Last week, we went to see "Hamilton" in Albuquerque at UNM. It was marvelous! Heartily recommend this play, but if you can, read the libretto before you go, some of the lyrics, especially when several are singing at once, are a little difficult to understand, but it's absolutely one of the best we've seen. My wife and I recently stayed at Hotel Parq Central. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. We chose this hotel because; 1) the price was reasonable for a boutique hotel, 2) we like to support local/independent businesses, 3) the location was convenient to NMU, and 4) the hotel offered free local shuttle service. After we booked our room, and pre-paid for it, we were informed (on our third attempt to reserve a shuttle service) that shuttle service was no longer available after 6 p.m. due to staffing shortages [strike one]. We decided to eat in the Apothecary Lounge in the hotel (the only food available in the hotel). The service was very good, and the food was also good, for bar food. No complaints, until we got our check, and for 1 martini, 1 Scotch, neat, and 3 appetizers, the bill was just under $79, without a tip. When I got home to check it, I found they charged $14 for a Scotch which is usually $7to $8 in any chain restaurant. They also charged us $4 over the prices on the menu and on the website for the three appetizers. Our "light" dinner, with the tip was more than I would have paid for a steak dinner for two in Las Cruces. [strike two] When we checked into the hotel, we made arrangements at the front desk for a ride service to pick us up at the hotel at 6:30 to deliver us to the Popejoy theater on the UNM campus, and to be picked up in the same spot as we were dropped off, at 10:45 to return us to the hotel. BIG MISTAKE! The service arrived as scheduled, but not at 10:45. We called the hotel at 11:00 to ask them to arrange transportation and was told they'd do so, and call us right back. At 11:15, I called the hotel again, and no one answered. We gave up and walked to a nearby restaurant to wait while I called a taxi to pick us up. The taxi arrived within 3 minutes, and delivered us to the hotel at 11:45. [strike three] The room was very nice, with luxurious amenities, but there was no ice anywhere I could find. None on the room floor, none on the lobby level. After we went to be, very tired, at a little after midnight, we were kept awake by truck traffic and sirens on the Interstate next to the hotel. Needless to say, we won't be staying at the Hotel Parq Central the next time we go to Albuquerque.

Yelp
I wish someone would have told me this prior to booking this hotel. There aren't many reviews explaining this. This hotel stay was one of the creepiest place I've ever been to. We stayed two nights, and after the first sleepless night, I started to research on the hotel. The old floors creak and you hear noises in the hallway at night. This hotel is known to be the most HAUNTED hotel in ABQ if you look into it. It used to be a MENTAL ASYLUM (which they don't tell you upon checking in). Their fitness center used to be the old crematorium- you get a strong stench smell when you walk in. I didn't sleep for more than an hour at night due to the constant scratching on the wall, a weird light over the room, and footsteps outside. The top floor of the building (especially right wing) is known to be the the most haunted, with an old lady walking down the hallway at night. I would pass on the complimentary breakfast as well (just some old pastries and boiled eggs in odd green water). Across the street is a park with homeless people and some sketchy things happening as well. This hotel is in an UNSAFE part of town. I hope this honest review helped you, as it would have changed my view for $350/night.

Yelp
We loved this place! Clean and welcoming people. The rooftop bar was so fun. We plan to stay here again when we return. Thank you!

Yelp
The room as a normal room. Nothing outstanding. The lounge on the 4fl had room temperature beer, staff was friendly. The breakfast, to fancy for my American Farmer. No eggs, sausage. The bacon strip was in a pancake. The danishes was England style.

Yelp
Stayed there on business, and was pleasantly surprised. Though right off the freeway (you can see and hear it from the outside), the hotel was well designed, decorated, and furnished. From the subtle colors to the historical displays showcasing its history as a hospital, as well as museum quality displays of hats, music therapy and its use for patients, and another on botanicals, to Frette sheets on the bed, the Hotel Parq Central mixes luxe with eclectic. Breakfast was good, and on the lighter side with lots of choices. I enjoyed the frittatas and coffee. Likewise, the Apothecary bar upstairs is a fun place for cocktails. The rooftop bar is both beautiful and modern. The only downside to the rooms, jacuzzi areas, and public areas downstairs is the low wattage lighting which makes everything dark. As I walked thru the public rooms on the way to the fountains, I noticed the staff hadn't turned on the only two lamps in the room (by the chaise lounges). We turned them on, but there needs to be someone on staff assigned to turn all the lamps, the better to encourage guests to use the spaces and create a warm and inviting ambience. When I see lamps in hotels that never turned on or with blown out bulbs, this means someone in management isn't paying attention. In great hotel, all details are worth paying attention to ensure they're done. Besides, it's no secret that tourism attracts a lot of older travelers, as well as families, and more lighting just makes things easier and safer. Similarly, we found very few lights in the jacuzzi area, and none that would help you see the controls! Coming up with targeted lighting and ensuring that lamps in public interior and exterior lights are put on timers would be helpful, and create and ambience that goes beyond, "this is a former hospital." This lack of oversight is why I've given Parq Central 4 stars, not 5. When I come back, and this detail still isn't attended to, I'll give it 3. I also feel that they could leave some literature, or something posted on the wall about how to operate the thermostat, which is tiny, on a dark wall, and required my using a flashlight on my phone to figure out. Again, darkness overall with small lamps that only have low-watt bulbs is an issue in the guest rooms as well. In contrast, the hallways are beautifully lit. I'll close this with a high note: The staff is friendly and fun to talk with and they're welcoming. Housekeeping -just terrific, and my room was clean and relaxing from the minute I stepped in the door.

Yelp
We love this hotel! Every time we come through ABQ we stay here on our way to Taos. The rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. There are even cozy robes ready for you after the shower. They have a great rooftop bar and restaurant where you can get imaginative cocktails (seriously some of the most interesting ones I've had!) and some nice bites with a view of the city. Breakfast in the morning with good coffee too! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I only spent one night here and despite a hiccup and a strange surprise, would totally stay here again! It is located right off the 25 and very convenient to get to and close to the airport. I stay in a lot of hotels due to business travel but this was a leisure visit while I waited for my friends to fly in the next AM. I am a sucker for dogs, and they have this Ambassador dog, Molly (I think that was her name?) who is at the front desk wagging her tail and so sweet looking. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from check in to check out. I was in a first floor room and liked that you needed a key to get down to the room area. I believe I was in a deluxe King which was lovely. Sleep quality was fantastic, the bedding/pillows/linens were quality. The room itself was so nice and I loved the C.O.Bigelow products in the bathroom along with the super comfy robe. The common areas were very well kept up and clean and beautifully decorated. I did have coffee/breakfast in the AM. There is no coffee maker in the room but they have 24 hour coffee/tea in the dining room. I did find when getting a cup of coffee at 6AM that they don't stay on top of it, as the coffee was cold (bummer), like really cold. Breakfast was delicious, they had a quiche along with some breakfast breads... the multigrain croissant was yummy. The complimentary breakfast is by no means 'hearty' but it is satisfying. I was pleasantly surprised to see they put coffee out in the hall where my room was, like a little coffee station. Not sure what time they put that out there as it was not set up when I got my cold coffee from the dining room. My hiccup during my stay - someone trying to get into my room, twice, around midnight. Scared the %^&$# out of me. Thankfully I had all the security locks in place as their key was working. It appears there was some mix up and the front desk actually checked these people into my room because their key was working. I called down to the front desk after the second time of them trying to get in and was told these people were trying the wrong room (yeah no) which was not the case. The next morning when I tried to get back in my room my keys did not work given the fiasco the night before. My surprise, was there was this amazing gift box with tons of Trader Joe's stuff in it in my room. I thought it was something the hotel did (at a cost) but turns out it was not... so I took it with me since I was embarking on a Santa Fe girls trip and I needed snacks. Hey, if it was that person's who was trying to get into my room... I figure the gift box was the least they could do for all the shaking of the door knob that woke me out of a blissful sleep and kept me up due to adrenaline for an hour.

Yelp
Absolutely ridiculous. I booked through a third party and specifically asked for a King Bed as it was my husband and my one year anniversary. We checked in were not told of any change to our reservation and go into our room and it's two full beds. We immediately went downstairs and we're told that the manager moved us because we were not apart of the wedding party. I was told I could call the manager who just left. I left a message and lo and behold I never received a callback I had my third party booking company call as well and the manager never returned my call. Steer clear aside from a historical hotel this doesn't have much going for it. The breakfast is a joke, sad continental at best. If you have a problem good luck! the manager could care less.

Yelp
The building and grounds are beautiful and love the history of the space. The food and drinks are quite good and the beds are comfortable enough. Unfortunately, none of this makes up for the rude and uncaring employees, likely the result of poor management. I understand these times have been hard on everyone, businesses included. My family, friends, and I had a large event here and were extremely accommodating, kind, and communicative, but that is not what we received in return. The event coordinator / accountant in particular is someone I would not want to work with again and would not recommend to anyone else.

Yelp
Great stay until the end. We had booked on booking.com, so it makes it very complicated to make any changes which we understood. We wanted to check out one day early because my husband was working out here and done with the job. The receptionist I spoke to (long straight light brown hair) about this was the type that nothing will work. nothing she can do to help. I asked to speak to the manager and she said "I'm not sure if he's here. He was going to come in just for a few minutes." I asked her to check if he's here and she kept avoiding my question. She did not want to help. Everything was no no no. Every other receptionist, dining room servers, Apothecary servers, maintenance, cleaning personnel we talked to during our stay was extremely helpful, big smiles, and willing to help with whatever we needed. They went out of their way to ask how we're doing and if we need anything. Long brown hair receptionist was out of place at this hotel. Great jacuzzi, gym & breakfast.

Yelp
I stayed at the hotel. The staff was helpful. I loved my room. If I had any questions or concerns there was someone to answer my questions. I am grateful for my stay there and it felt like a real vacation. The hot tub was a plus. Susan Mayer

Yelp
If you care at all about the way staff is treated at a local business you SHOULD NOT support the Apothecary lounge in this hotel. The food&beverage director treats his kitchen staff so poorly, the turn over is ridiculous. The staff that he is able to keep CANNOT cook chicken safely. You'll probably get food poisoning from how filthy the kitchen and sanitation practices are. Food those who love food this place is a total let down. No creative eats. The bartenders make the experience salvage-able. Sincerely, this is the worst place to work in ABQ. Speak with your money and support those that care about their employees.

Kristy Marie S.

Yelp
The hotel has a lot of history which was very cool to see. The front desk staff was very friendly. We got a king room which was spacious and had lots of windows. I especially loved the robes which were very comfortable. We stayed 2 nights and while our room was slightly messy we did not recieve new towels the 2nd night of our stay after the room was cleaned. The bed was made but floor not vacuumed or trash taken out. I was not a fan of the shampoo/conditioner provided. The breakfast was nice and different than regular hotels. I very much enjoyed being able to sit on the patio for breakfast.

Yelp
Upon checking in it appears to be a nice hotel though I should have left when a man approached and was very angry about fraudulent charges on his credit card by the Hotel Parq Central WHILE I was checking in. The temperature outside was around 30 degrees at 5 pm and once I entered my room it was FREEZING. I went to the thermostat to adjust it and waited for it to get warm. I was in the room about an hour and noticed it never really got warmer. I stopped by the desk on my way to dinner and asked about it. I guess you apparently have absolutely no control over your own thermostat. They control it at the front desk. I was assured they would adjust it. I returned to the room at 9 pm and it was even colder than before. I could literally see my breath in the room. I do have asthma and it's not ok for me to be in a room that cold for the entire night. I couldn't even take off my coat. I phoned the desk and asked for the heat to be turned up. So if you stay here, know that you have to ask every time you would like your temp adjusted. I made a few calls and an hour later it was still just FREEZING. I went downstairs to see what the issue was and there was a homeless man unconscious on the lobby floor and a cat running around the lobby. There was no staff present at all. I started CPR but as it turns out he was just drunk. I then called my parents who I was in town to visit to come to the hotel because I was kind of afraid. I didn't want to go back to my room because I was frozen stiff at that point and having trouble breathing and it was much warmer in the lobby. In the meantime I was trying to catch the cat. FINALLY a staff member appeared and said he'd been in the back on the phone with the police. My parents arrived and together we tried to convince the man to let us have his cat to take to the shelter. The front desk guy just hid behind the front desk and watched us. He was completely fine with us handling the situation! No police ever came and I don't think he was ever on the phone with them. Finally the man went outside with his cat and we sat out there with him and tried to help him. Finally I went back to my room (still around 40 degrees in the room) got my wallet and went to the Sheraton because the situation was intolerable. I returned the next morning and spoke with Abigail at the front desk about my experience, showed her proof I checked in to a different hotel and asked for a full refund. She told me she would speak to Yancy Sturgeon at 9 am and to expect a call from him. The call never came. I then proceeded to leave Mr Sturgeon 3 voicemails which were not returned. They charged my card almost a week later for the full amount of the room. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice? In addition to this; the television did not work. I was told they just switched to direct tv with a shrug and that the signal is weak. The room was also so small that there was only about 1 or 2 inches of walking room around the bed. No chairs to sit in. Overall, it was just a terrible experience. I understand some things are/were beyond the hotels control but keeping the rooms at an acceptable temperature is within the hotels control (not sure if they are having money problems which is leading them to be so stingy with the heat or what) and they do have control over returning my calls and they do have control over not charging me for such a horrible experience.

Yelp
Hotel booked large weddings on two consecutive nights. There was no parking for the hotel guests, who had to find parking elsewhere. Hotel also rented out the entire rooftop lounge, closing it to Hotel guests. So not only did we not have parking, but could not utilize the the best attraction of the Hotel. Staff could care less. Listen, if you want enjoy this hotel, be a wedding guest and enjoy it all. If you're a Hotel guest, be prepared to not get what you paid for.

Yelp
I've stayed at this property on multiple occasions over the last few years. The best advice I can give the owners of this property is to turn the front desk and management staff over. Especially the General Manager. Every single time I've had to work with him he comes off desperate for business. It is apparent this property is struggling financially. The staff is extremely unprofessional. I was guaranteed meeting space and was cancelled 1 hour before my class was to begin. This property is gorgeous but is absolutely horribly ran that it's not worth the stay.

Yelp
Having read about the hotel's past history as a hospital was freaking my coworkers out. We had been booked here in order to attend a conference, and I was actually looking forward to checking the hotel out (way more than they were)! The hotel is beautiful - modern, minimalist and clean, with actual hospital artifacts displayed in interesting ways. The guest book at the front desk is an actual insurance ledger from the building's hospital days. There's a resident pup that's greets you during the day, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. They offer a shuttle to different areas of town (3 mile radius) and were great with the scheduling. We were never late anywhere! The room itself was great. Even though it was really cold outside, you;d never know while you're inside your room. Comfy bed and huge, posh bathroom! The toiletries were C.O. & Bigelow (and the hotel had the lavender soap all over the hotel - much to my delight) and there was robe available as well. The glass-walled rainfall shower was super hot and strong, and I could seriously stay in there for hours! Breakfast is included, and had lots of offerings. The rooftop bar (Apothecary) was perfect for drinks or a bite (the sweet potato fries are amazing) and the view of the city (especially at sunset) was beautiful. I want to return with my husband to show him beautiful Albuquerque, and we'll be staying here!!

Yelp
We had the worst experience with this hotel. It all started with the food for our wedding. We got married last year here and we live in Texas. The only reason we picked this place is due to my grandparents not being able to travel from NM on plane and that they promised us that they could do everything we were looking for. We even spent extra to rent out whole top of the rooftop and the whole residency area. Here is some advice on why not to stay here or have your wedding here: If you are looking for a hotel with a chef this is not it. They will claim they can have anything arranged to make your day special but it's not true. They will promise you the world so you will sign on the dotted line of the contract. They lost the only good thing that was part of our wedding which was their Event specialist. She was great and so kind. During our wedding we had asked that the door to the residency we had rented was locked. We got a text message stating that it would be. Surprise it never was, in the morning a woman came into the hotel and wasn't stopped by the hotel staff but let to roam the hotel. She was caught on the one camera they have in the whole hotel. Are you kidding one camera? All of our guests were stopped when arriving to the hotel and asked if they were staying there if they did not look familiar. Well this woman was not and went into the residency which is where we had asked them to lock the door. She stole around 3k worth of items from us. The manager Yancy Sturegon doesn't give a damn about the people that stay and spend money there. We tried to speak with the Manager. He apparently was in a meeting and couldn't address us. When we spoke to another staff member they told us his meeting had ended about 30 min ago. He wouldn't even bother with us after spending thousands at his establishment. Ridiculous! We later spoke with the Event specialist who was so apologetic and assured us that the hotel had insurance and the manager should be filing a claim. Well guess what he said no. He didn't even bother picking up the phone to call us but sent us an email on our honeymoon just copying and pasting the contract which in fact was very vague. STAY AWAY

Yelp
I had been wanting to know what this hotel was like since my parents took a tour of Albuquerque when I lived there, and they said it was in an old hospital. I previously stayed in a hotel converted from a hospital several years earlier (in another state), and the room and showers seemed like they hadn't been changed too much. I finally had a chance to stay here in December. While the decor (old medical devices, pictures of the hospital) shows that it once was, there isn't too much that screams hospital to me. The room is very nice. The bathroom was fantastic with an amazingly large shower (no tub -- yay!). The bed was comfortable, and the view from my room looked over the back courtyard. Breakfast was very nice. Instead of having waffles or things like that, they had an option for quiche -- both types had green chiles. I tried one with bacon, cheese, and green chiles; it was tasty. There was also a selection of fruit and pastries. They are pet friendly which is nice to know, and the Apothecary Lounge is on the 4th floor, and it commands a fantastic view of Albuquerque.

Yelp
I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing how awful the owner talks to his employees and help. His behavior disgusted me, he should be kinder to his staff and act like his customers care because we do. The owner needs to act better I'm never coming here again.

Yelp
Website touts themselves as luxury. Not really. Much over promising and under delivery by management. Rooms are old and tired. Food is bad. Don't rely on anything website says. Beds are hard. Bathrooms have seen better days. Staff, however, were great. Management was not. Do not stay here.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would but it's not an option. You can put as much Poopurri on a turd but it's still a turd. Albuquerque is a shit hole. We stopped at this hotel to have drinks at the apothecary, which were amazing by the way, and left with our window bashed out and nothing stolen. I've been warned that this town is full of degenerates and this is just what they do and now I know. The lady at the front desk told me that there are no cameras on that side but I could wait for security to get there at 11 PM... mind you this was 9:30. Save your gas.. go to the next town, actually the next state.

Yelp
Oh my. I may have to live here permanently. It's lovely. A great combination of old charm and new comfort/practicality. Completely wonderful. Spacious sleeping room. Places to sit inside and out. Tea and coffee service throughout. Nice Bigelow products. Cutie bathrobes. Bed and linens divine! Staff members are now c and general inlet seem interested in guests and enthused about where they work. I want to return and stay longer! Well done.

Yelp
We've been to this Hotel Parq Central bar many times. It's never better than when Bartender and Mr. Personality "Gabriel" is working. Gabriel always gets our drinks right. Gabriel is fun to talk with. Gabriel has a good understanding of this excellent hotel and its community. Also worth mentioning is Gabriel's sidekick bartender Gray. Gray knows his drinks. Emily their waitress is the most excellent. Emily is sharp, always friendly and spot on with service. Alysia the supervisor and excellent bartender too, deserves a special thanks as well. Thanks for reading. Avram
