Hotel Pasatiempo is a very good deal for the price. The rooms are super cute, clean, and quiet, making it a relaxing place to stay. The pool area is peaceful, and we even got to see monkeys come down nearby—they were fun to watch and didn’t bother anyone at all. The staff was kind and helpful, though they did not speak English, so having a translator app was definitely necessary. The air conditioning was a bit tricky to figure out at first, but once the staff showed us how it worked, it was fine. We also loved that there is nighttime security at the gate, which made us feel safe, and there are two very friendly cats on the property that added to the charm. Overall, a comfortable, charming stay and a great value if you’re looking for something affordable and relaxing.

Very strange experience. I will start by saying the rooms are nice and beds are comfortable. The grounds are very well maintained and has a nice ambience. The location is a disadvantage for walking into town, but offers great views and a free shuttle. What I have found most unenjoyable is the general handling of guests. It's not bad, it's just... weird. Everyone is required to wear a wristband at all times to prove they are a guest. The lobby, pool, and restaurant are very open and accessable to the public so I can see how this is important. At the same time, however, you are required to "sign in" at the breakfast (which is free) regardless of wrist band? Why else am I wearing this? I have a wonderful view from my balcony and decided I would like to eat privately from that location. I was told I could not take breakfast to the room like I'm some kind of child. Perhaps you could just encourage guests to bring the plates back if you don't want to burden housekeeping with it? I went for lunch and told the waiter to charge it to the room, which was met with some incredulous questioning of whether or not I have a credit open. I guess you can opt out of leaving a card open for charges, but this places staff in an awkward position where they have to determine if you are even allowed to charge to the room. There is some strange token system for pool towels, which I assume is just to avoid the hotel losing towels occasionally. Everything here seems to be this "nanny state" of Wyndham policies to ensure less loss to the hotel, at the expense of guests feeling more welcome and at ease. Just raises your prices a bit to account for loss and do things normally. This is all very bizarre behavior. This is in no way a reflection on individual staff, as they have all been great. These seem like corporate decisions and make me leery of booking Wyndham properties moving forward.

We just finished a four night stay here, and we loved it! We had the villa, which was private, spacious and well maintained. I know that outdoor spaces are hard to keep up in this climate, but ours was clean and picture perfect. We wanted a quiet and private room, and that’s what we got. ||Let’s take a moment to talk about the pool! We only used it a few times, but it was so peaceful and inviting, and it was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel. ||Honestly, Tamarindo wasn’t my favorite town in Costa Rica because of how noisy and busy it is, but this place was truly an oasis! It felt like you were in the middle of the jungle, but you’re still right in the middle of town, with a pharmacy, stores and restaurants all around. This hotel actually makes me want to return to Tamarindo, since there are so many upsides to its location. ||A couple of other things: the staff, especially Enid, were great. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and answer all of our questions. She even welcomed me by name when we checked in! ||We also loved the resident cats, as well as the friendly dog that was in the office a few times during our stay. For any who may be missing their pets while traveling, this was a nice little treat, just the icing on the cake. ||Thanks, Hotel Pasatiempo! We’ll be back!

Although this hotel is only a few minutes walk from the busy resort it definitely felt like a little oasis. We loved the trees all around the pool that gave us shade after a hot day at the beach. It is a really small hotel so it was always really quiet around the pool. Most of the time our only company were the visiting iguanas and monkeys. The one iguana is BIG but so chilled, we loved watching him and his smaller friends. The whole hotel is spotless. The rooms were kept exceptionally clean and although you will get leaves in the pool this is your be expected when it is surrounded by leaves. But the staff spent a very long time each morning carefully cleaning it back to perfection. The breakfast was pretty standard for CR hotels, the pizzas were yummy and great G&Ts during happy hour. |There are a few things that need sorting which they will hopefully look at now it is end of season; the door locks were a pain, we had to move from our first room and then our 2nd room you had to learn the special way to lock it. Also our toilet needed my husband to do regular fixes to get it flushing. Don’t therefore expect high end. |But what you will get is a perfectly positioned relaxing hotel with lots of wildlife!

The hotel is in a decent location right off the main strip however the street that leads to the hotel does not have sidewalks so you kinda have to walk on the dirt to get to and from. The hotel room needs a renovation - ratty curtains, rusty fixtures in the bathroom, bathroom window does not have curtains and people from outside can look inside. It's really a shame because the hotel grounds are really well kept and the pool is nice and clean, staff is friendly and the hotel grounds are patrolled throughout the night by a guard.

Such an interesting hotel, it felt like a real beach hotel! Very good location, close to the beach and lots of restaurants. Very friendly service at reception and breakfast. Reliable, affordable and good laundry service ($5/kg). Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable with a nice porch with a hammock, overlooking the pool.

Location is not great, 10 min walk from the beach as the road is not paved. Room is OK but bathroom is terrible, it said its boutique hotel but toilet paper is like a public toilet. Sink have no plug, Bedding is a sheet and a bed spread, very uncomfortable. Staff was not helpful, not even there when we check out at 0800, definitely won't stay there!
