A group of 6 friends and I stayed at the Albergo as part of a 6 day hike in the Alps. ||First the positive part: we had a very nice room on the top floor with 7 beds and a private bathroom (although we could smell the smoking from our neighbours’ room under the door, which was most unpleasant!).||The friendliness of the staff cannot be faulted either, nor can the hearty breakfast. ||The reason why I am giving this review a 1 star is the dreadful quality of the dinner we were served. We had half-board for 45 francs p/p. We were told we’d have ribs, which we were quite happy about after a very long day hiking. ||BUT… We were given a plateful of what was basically nothing but bone and gristle! The ribs were still attached to what looked like the sternum of the animal, and could therefore not be cut apart at all - not even with the sharp knives we were given. It was all smothered in a tasteless, gelatinous sauce. Beneath this were a few squashed spinach leaves and a few stodgy potato wedges. But it was the appalling quality of the so-called ribs that was totally unacceptable! It was all returned to the kitchen uneaten, and obviously we complained to the waiter immediately. ||We expected the chef to come out and apologise - the only correct thing to do - but no. Nothing. I then complained to the hotel front desk and asked for a partial refund of our half-board, seeing as we’d been served what wasn’t even fit for a dog. There was NO meat on the “ribs” at all! The (very nice) lady said she could do nothing and to come back the next morning at checkout. That lady, however, said she couldn’t do anything either. I wrote to the hotel the next day to once again ask for a partial refund (and an apology), telling them I would write very negative reviews on social media and contact the Ticino Tourist Board as well, but nada! Nothing! I’ve not heard a peep. So voila! Here’s my review! Avoid this place!

It's a bucket list thing that every driver should do is to drive along this road, forget toll roads and take the time to do the cobble stone road. Got to love Switzerland.

Friendly welcome at the reception and clean, comfortable rooms. Once the day tourists leave the Pass and the hotel quiets down, this place provided one of the best night’s sleep. Don’t expect modern rooms, a flat screen TV or a mini fridge to take away from the rustic charm of this accommodation. Shared bathrooms on the floor were pleasantly clean.

The old building with the new internal architecture was what attracted us. Fantastic, but sadly not run by qualified people. They could run a camping site, not this treasure.||The complaints I emailed them:|*Not possible to book a table in the restaurant, until the time of arrival|*Key system... just a little annoying|*My single room - wash sink in the room? Not excactly architectural genious.|*Micro bathroom|*Bathroom floor flooded after a shower. Not even dry after the night.|*No curtains|*Breakfast below average. Crowded and loud room. Loud, inpolite staff||The reply I got:|"Many of the criticisms you raise are not caused by negligence but are a deliberate architectonical or gastronomic choice. We have carefully evaluated your observations and have concluded that even with the best will in the world, we cannot find a remedy."||Arrogant? Incompetent?||If you go there, enjoy the old building, but be aware that the rest of the "package" is very different and not worthy. Huge disharmony.

I stayed in the dorm with some friends, which is in a separate building close by. It was very clean and tidy. Hot water, nice restaurant to have dinner, and a very good breakfast. Perfect to explore the Gotthard region: hiking trail through the lakes highly recommended.

We stopped here for lunch on a miserable Sunday afternoon after cycling up the Termola. It was busy but we were given a table quite quickly. We both had the spaghetti Bologense as we were looking for some comfort food as we were cold and wet. It was absolutely lovely and very reasonable for Switzerland. The place looks nothing from the outside but the food was lovely.||||Would definately recommend if passing that way.

Great to see the lights of this place at 21:00 after arriving on bike after climbing the cobbles on the old road. Food was hearty fair and the showers were hot. Room was very quiet and we had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was across the road in the museum with the locals and the spread was excellent.
