We stayed for 4 nights in the Clarke Terrace Garden House with jacuzzi and absolutely loved the character and charm of this hotel. The house was spacious, clean, beautifully designed with stained glass windows and shutters. Plenty of A/c and fans and very comfortable. Location is excellent with easy access to bus routes. Breakfast was nice, though the selection was smaller than other hotels we stayed at in Malaysia. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The bathrooms were large with great showers although the ones in my room didn't work very well. The added balcony was a lovely bonus. Facilities were good, cold fridge, hot and cold water filter, plenty of crockery, tea and coffee. My only suggestion would be to provide a welcome guide, especially for using the jacuzzi, as it took a day to figure out. Also, some garden light switches were hidden away in the electric cupboard, which guests should be informed of. It can occasionally get a little noisy at night with rowdy guests passing through the courtyard after a few drinks and I found my bed a little bit too hard. Overall, a beautiful stay and I’d happily return when visiting Penang again.

Hotel Penaga is a boutique heritage hotel set in a well-preserved colonial-era building that reflects the historic character of George Town. The original architecture is well maintained, offering old-world charm with basic modern comfort.||The interior features tasteful Baba Nyonya–inspired décor, giving the hotel strong cultural character and a calm, intimate atmosphere despite its city location. The hotel focuses more on heritage experience than modern luxury.||However, room rates are slightly higher, and parking is not provided. Guests need to find street parking nearby, which can be inconvenient, especially during busy hours.

A beautiful colonial style hotel in the heart of Georgetown. We stayed in a 3 bedroom house opposite the hotel which was very spacious and absolutely beautiful in a traditional style. I travelled here with my sister & niece and we were very comfortable the location is in a quieter part of the Island but everywhere is accessible by Grab which is very reasonably priced. The hotel staff were all very pleasant and the breakfast was so fresh everyday but the best thing about this hotel was Molly who worked in the breakfast restaurant. Good golly Miss Molly! What a great lady she never stops working she is so efficient but still took the time to check we had everything we needed and have a quick chat. Such a super lady and such a pleasure to meet her we looked forward to seeing her every morning! Also thanks to Chef Tony with his great cooking and lovely personality breakfast was delicious! Thank you all at Penaga for your good care!

Beautiful heritage building in the heart of George Town with a lot of character and friendly staff. My Hutton Deluxe King Room had a lovely wrap-around balcony and charming historic features. However, the guest experience did not fully match the potential of the house. The mattress was very hard and worn, kitchen smells from the street entered the room, and noise levels were high. Some décor elements felt energetically heavy, the workspace was not functional, and the breakfast selection was limited for a 4-star category. Cleanliness and textiles could also be improved. Overall, a charming historic property with real soul – but it needs more attention to ambience, bedding quality, and detail care to offer the experience its architecture promises. Solid 3/5 for now, with room to grow into something truly special.

Great stay at hotel, and extended my stay. Location is great , many cafés restaurants within a short distance. Nice outdoor garden, even though it’s small can sit outside and enjoy the Koi fish pond. Staff very helpful and friendly. The Delux Hutton room w/ jacuzzi is huge and spacious. Enjoying the bathtub jacuzzi. Breakfast is very basic, same foods daily, more fruits would be welcomed. Color schemes work well with ancient furniture pcs.. definitely enjoying my time at hotel with all amenities.

Checked in and found out the lift is not working so we have to walk up the stair with the bags no one offer to carry😀(There were 3-4 staffs near the reception and it's not busy at all). Then after all that climbing stairs, tgought we could just lay flat on the bed.But NO.The room card is not working. So Has to go all the way down the stairs and come back again.Again, not a single sight of sorrow on their face for the inconvenience. The card works now so we felt relieved. But we were wrong. As soon as we walk into the room, a strong smell of mold and paint goes straing into our nose to welcome us.Call us dramatic or else but WE COULDN'T BREATH PROPERLY.There's not enough air in the room. And the room is not cold enough. As you can tell by now, i don't think I need to tell you about the attitude of the staffs when we call them to cancel the next day booking. Overall, the room, decoration is pretty. But the receptionists' attitude could be improved.Would be able to bare all the inconvenience metioned above if only the staffs were all sweet and welcoming.

The furnishings in my room were just amazing, stunning antique wood pieces everywhere so beautiful to look at . The jacuzzi is a great modern addition, took a bit of time to fill but once done delightfully relaxing. All the staff were so friendly especially Molly the waitress, so friendly and lovely to talk to, and the “bell boy/housekeeper” sorry I can’t remember his name, but he did everything around the hotel and always had a friendly smile and chat, day and night as he always seemed to be on duty, lovely man. A stunning, distinguished hotel throughout with beautiful enclosed quiet courtyard garden.

Absolutely amazing old building with charm. The room is very beautiful, with very comfortable bed. It’s nice to spend evenings in the balcony. The night administrator at the reception desk is very friendly, helped us solve all the problems! Many thanks to him. But the man who meets guests during the day is quite the opposite. but we will be happy to return to this wonderful hotel again. definitely.

Yelp
A classic Penang experience in a location that can't be beat. The hotel comprises of large hotel rooms and spaces in keeping with Penang architecture. Stylishing appointed, the furnishings tastefully mix an era gone by with modern comforts and design. Hospitible touches such as afternoon tea and wine hour greatly add to the customer experience. A wonderful stay that enhanced my taste of Georgetown and all it has to offer.

Yelp
Rooms are filled with old Chinese furniture and decor, but bathroom is super modern with jacuzzi and multiple headed shower. Great Breakfast assortment of Malay favorites and Western food. Staff super helpful and friendly. Only downside is that it's a bit of a walk from old town on a hot day, 2km. Grabcar to there is only 2-4rm, and there is a free 11am shuttle to Armenian St. Highly recommend.
