I have been traveling the world for over 50 years, and one of my deepest concerns has been the gradual erasure of charm from hotels. Modern standardization has stripped many places of their individuality, replacing history and character with sterile, interchangeable rooms. When I travel, I make a conscious effort to stay in hotels that honor their heritage and allow me to feel connected to the city’s past, rather than those rushing to conform to a modern, uniform aesthetic. With that philosophy in mind—and without restricting myself by budget—I chose to stay at the Petit Palais du Charm in Milan, fully aware that a historic property may not be “perfect” in the conventional sense, nor in every physical detail relative to its price point. I was fortunate to visit during the week before Christmas, when both the hotel and the city were filled with a warm, festive ambiance. The reviews I read beforehand were, by and large, accurate. For my wife and me, our stay was deeply meaningful—personal, warm, and genuinely delightful, despite being a bit quirky at times. The hotel’s small staff created an intimate, welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel truly cared for in this tired yet still welcoming palazzo. Its location allows for easy walking access to all major sights, and the history of the building is extraordinary, having once been part of a 17th century convent complex which sat along a canal that disappeared nearly a century ago. I was not disappointed in any way. Our stay was truly delightful and embodied the very definition of a hotel de charme—something increasingly rare and deeply appreciated.

We had a wonderful two night stay here. The rooms are nicely decorated and quite comfortable. In room breakfast was delicious. This was our third time staying here, and we will certainly return on our next trip to Milan. Highly recommended.

One of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Milan. Everything was flawless, from the service to the location. A special thank you to Mariana, an exceptional hotel manager whose care and professionalism made our stay unforgettable.

3 nights in Milan with my son. We took the 2 bedroom suite which is on the ground floor quite near to reception. We never heard a sound from anything - total peace and quiet. Nice minibar, sky tv (although that didn’t always work), comfortable beds and excellent Air Conditioning. Breakfast was brought in every day at exactly the time we asked for it and I found every single member of staff there to be exceptionally polite and helpful. Good location too. Will definitely use again when back in Milan

We began our honeymoon at the Hotel Petit Palais. From the moment we made our reservation, we received exceptional customer service. They arranged for our transportation from the airport, gave us an early check in, and had our room ready with champagne and roses to celebrate our wedding. ||Our room, the Duomo Suite was sumptuous and so comfortable. The breakfast is the best we have ever had, served in our room with fresh juice, pastries and eggs. They made reservations for dinner and La Scala for a symphony. |The location was within walking distance of the old city center and all it has to offer. | |Overall, our experience was exceptional, made even better by the attentive staff. It was a memorable way to begin our honeymoon.

This hotel is very stylish in an old converted convent building so each room is quite unique. Our room was well appointed and comfortable and even had a small kitchen area. Breakfast was served in the room as the downstairs area is not large enough for a dining area although there is a small bar area which was handy. Staff were very friendly and helpful in every way and did everything to make our stay enjoyable.|The hotel is centrally situated but on the corner of a busy road so there was some noise at night and in the early morning.

This place was so magical, it was like taking a step back into history. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, they were so helpful throughout my stay. The rooms are so spacious and warm especially as it winter time. I would definitely recommend this hotel it is like staying in your very own palace. I would even recommend for families.

Wonderful hotel Very comfortable room and big. The small kitchen is a nice surprise. Mariana was absolutely perfect. Made all the effort we have a great experience. She really did much more than expected. We forgot something in the room and she made every effort to get it back to us .

Yelp
This place is a dump, everything is outdated and the bathroom floor was so warped that the door wouldn't close. I'm 220 lbs and my body could barely fit in the bathtub/shower. The desk clerk wasn't willing to help at all with directions or transport, other than call his buddy with a taxi for too many euros.

Yelp
Reasonably priced rooms, especially on Expedia. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed though service wasn't wonderful. Don't pay for breakfast as there are incredible walking distance options.
