Hotel Playa Colibri

TLDR: probably don’t stay here My husband and I were originally supposed to check-in to the hotel around 3 PM. Because of multiple flight delays and cancellations, we were now going to arrive closer to midnight, and online it says the reception/check-in closes at 10 PM. We called the hotel around 5 PM to let them know we would be arriving later than planned. On the phone they said no one at the hotel spoke English so they could not help us, but we were eventually given a WhatsApp number we could text. The receptionist on WhatsApp said it was no problem if we come late for check-in; we tried to confirm other details (getting a ride from the airport, etc.) but they never replied to any of our other messages (and still have never replied). We also sent multiple emails in English and Spanish about our delay but these (to this day) have never been replied to. After a hellish travel day, we arrived at the hotel around 1 AM. The security guard had NO IDEA we were coming, no one left him a key or any instructions. He said they always tell him if guests are arriving late so he can let them in, but not this time. He offered to let us sleep outside on some couches, but there was no way he could get us in the room we paid for. The security guard helped us get a hotel room down the street (at Hotel Alisei, where you should stay instead!); he was very kind and deserves a raise. In the morning, the hotel did not offer us any apologizes or a refund. They said we could stay an extra night for free, but that would require us changing our flights, which would cost us even more money. The pool and beach are beautiful, and Las Terrenas is a dream, but the hotel is just OK. The doors are all screen doors, so even when closed, bugs still get into the room and you can hear noises from the street, other guests talking, etc. all day and night. The bed and pillows were hard and not comfortable. Many staff, including the servers and bartenders were very kind and fun. The town is wonderful and the location of the hotel is top-tier - there were just too many flaws for us to ever want to return to Hotel Playa Colibri, but we will definitely be back to Las Terrenas! Also - do NOT trust the “AI helper” on their website. We chatted with this AI bot and they said “it is no problem if you come late, we have a receptionist here 24/7!”. That is not true. The bot also said it would “tell the hotel we would be late, and that the hotel would call or email us to confirm” also not true.

Nice hotel/resort type of feeling, right across the street from the beach staff is nice and helpful room is very clean as well as the grounds, only downside is the amount of mosquitoes ( buy a good repellent, they sell it as well) but every room has screens to protect against them entering.

Very nice and clean place. The staff is super helpful and the food delicious. |We called one of the staff members , Sergio Perez and he went above and beyond his duties to help us out. I highly recommend this hotel. The beach peaceful and beautiful.

Friendly and attentive staff. The apartment was very clean. The whole resort with its “Old World” charm is very well maintained. The pool and gardens are beautiful. Many of our friends have stayed here and speak well of Hotel Colibrí but this was our first visit. Now we know what are of the buzz is about. We will definitely return.

From Orlando FL. After an entire day traveling, when I arrived with my kids and wife, they asked me to pay for my reservation. My reservation was made by priceline.com and charged to the credit card. I showed the emails from priceline.com and they just wanted a full payment again of $940- room assigned 35 - 06/19/2025. Corfirmation # 6940888373. After this experience I’ll never recommend this place to anyone

This review will basically be about our experience not so much of the hotel itself! I must say this hotel was not what I expected or perhaps my expectations were too high. All in all it wasn’t expensive and could use a facelift and would be an absolute increíble hotel! But I must say the hotel has the a potential beyond any other, the staff made our stay, breakfast was included and just to say if you stay there don’t wait until 10:30 because they do not replenish but breakfast was pretty good, now let me tell you about the staff, we had dinner at their beach restaurant every night for 3 nights there, why? Easy the staff was amazing! |Magdalena and Ronny and Esther made sure our food was what we wanted.|Aylin and her witty jokes made our time awesome! Miguel made us laugh and made sure we had everything we needed and boy he could certainly get around each table cracking jokes.||But there Star was Veronica, she was beyond accommodating answered questions about the area, so accommodating she knew exactly what we needed and had the most incredible smile! She is definitely and huge asset.||If your looking for marble floors and glamour perhaps this is not for your but of your looking for rustic great price and clean place to stay this is your spot! |The beach was spectacular

I had a pleasant stay at Hotel Playa Colibri. The service was excellent, and the included breakfast, while not fancy, was quite good. The beach is just a short walk away, which was incredibly convenient. The tiki bar cafe on the beach served delicious food, at least from what I tried. However, I can't give the hotel a full 5 stars. While the rooms are equipped with everything you need, they are quite outdated. This outdated feel can sometimes make the rooms seem less clean, even if they are well-maintained. The overall hotel structure also appears old and could benefit from a refresh to improve its visual appeal. Despite these issues, the excellent service and great location still made for an enjoyable stay.
