Hotel Plaza Grande

"An antidote to the concrete towers of modern Quito, the Hotel Plaza Grande, on the Centro Histórico’s main square, has brought a new level of comfort to the capital. In a $6 million restoration of the former Majestic Hotel, this four-story neoclassic building was divided into just 15 spacious suites. Heated marble floors in the bathrooms break the Andean night chill, while bath butlers can be summoned to infuse your whirlpool with indigenous essences. The original Majestic drew Ecuador’s elite until it closed in 1970, and Quiteños are now returning to the ground-floor café and the champagne and cognac bars on the top floor. The restaurant La Belle Epoque—with its three-foot candelabras—is an overexuberant interpretation of the genre; the ambience is festive in the rustic vaulted-ceiling basement wine lounge, El Claustro. Arrangements of Ecuador’s signature roses leave an ever-present scent throughout the hotel."

Gorgeous hotel with outstanding service. Very small...Feel like you are welcome guest in a grand home. Amazing woodwork. Perfect location on Independence square. Walkable to many restaurants and beautiful churches. Catty corner from the Presidential Palace so lots of security! Did not feel unsafe ever. Loved our stay in Quito - did a City tour, rode the cable car explored the area there, went to Mindo which was a great day trip.

The hotel is in a perfect location - central to everything important in Quito. Small and boutique, felt like they knew and cared about us. The rooms ( and we saw 2 - keep reading) were exquisite and large. The carved doors and woodwork with amazing. They had a welcome bottle of wine as well as a tray of sweet desserts in our room on top of welcome drinks. Above and beyond...There was a party being held in the hotel and they were concerned about us being bothered by the noise and they let us sleep in a room on a different floor so it would be quieter - very considerate. We didn't have to move all our things; we just slept there and then went back to our room. We were in Quito during Quito's 50th birthday celebration. It was extremely crowded and very difficult when it came time to leave to get a cab...they arranged for the cab to pick us up a block away and took our bags there for us. Also, breakfast is very good - you can order as many things as you like off the menu and there are many choices. Provided unlimited water bottles. I would recommend this hotel with no hesitation to anyone. Maurice at the front desk (maybe the manager?), in particular, went above and beyond and was exceptionally outstanding.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The service was truly exceptional from start to finish. The location in Quito’s Old Town could not be better and the breakfast was great. The staff even prepared boxed breakfasts for us when we had to leave early for a tour at 7 am and offered to do the same when we headed to the airport before sunrise.||The doorman and receptionist went above and beyond. They personally escorted us to a nearby ATM to ensure we were safe and helped us with anything we needed throughout our stay. Our room was beautiful and the balconies offered perfect views of the plaza (pictures out the balcony are shown here). We were delighted to find robes, a bottle of wine, a chocolate assortment, a welcome drink, an additional complimentary cocktail and a warm towel waiting for us. They also gave us excellent recommendations in the area. It is in a prime / safe area of old town with lots of options right around it. ||This was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. Highly recommended.

We went to the restaurant to celebrate my mom‘s birthday. Our experience was excellent from the time that we arrived. We requested to have a window table, and Vladimir was very very professional and patient and accommodating. The service was outstanding, and the food was delicious

This hotel exceeded our expectations! We had a corner room on the 3rd floor with 3 balconies. It could not have been more wonderful! The room and bed was very comfortable. The staff were incredibly and went above and beyond meeting all our needs. Finally, BEST location! Felt very safe and very walkable. Highly recommend!

We stayed here for our last night in Quito as a treat to end our holiday. All I can say is WOW! We've never stayed in a hotel like this before - It has an old world charm, the staff and very welcoming and the room was insane. Huge space, high ceilings, Jacuzzi bath and a really comfy bed. |They also gave a lot of complementariness including a bottle of wine, macaroons, chocs etc - Although I assume this is reflected in the price point. |The location is really good - its literally on the main square of the old town.||We went to the cellar bar, its got a good feel to it, but was very empty (Thursday night) so took our complimentary cocktail and returned to the room.||As a tip - We were recommended Calle La Ronda to eat. Its a little street with umbrellas above it, and is good for a lunch. Lots of little, low cost restaurants with tasty local food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Plaza Grand Hotel. Our room overlooked the grand square. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. They were excellent in every respect. The hotel is centrally located and a wonderful place to stay for a few days in Quito!

I’ve just spent the last 5 nights at Plaza Grande. Is it a unique stay? Yes! Is it value for money at US$340 per night…. I don’t think so. You’re really paying for old world charm rather than luxury. The room was comfortable but lacked some basics like a stocked minibar/fridge as an example. You’re in the centre of the old town which has its perks such as beautiful views and access to lots of tourist locations. There are some considerations out of the hotel’s control that did impact the stay: at 5:50am EVERY morning, the cathedral bells start tolling. There is also a lot of street noise as the President’s office is 10m away and every police escort beeps its horn or sirens as it goes by. The bathtub is also a bit of a death trap so be mindful if you have accessibility requirements. The service here is lovely but I probably wouldn’t stay here again and thankful that I used my credit card points to cover this hotel cost rather than my own cash.
