Hotel Plaza Grande

"An antidote to the concrete towers of modern Quito, the Hotel Plaza Grande, on the Centro Histórico’s main square, has brought a new level of comfort to the capital. In a $6 million restoration of the former Majestic Hotel, this four-story neoclassic building was divided into just 15 spacious suites. Heated marble floors in the bathrooms break the Andean night chill, while bath butlers can be summoned to infuse your whirlpool with indigenous essences. The original Majestic drew Ecuador’s elite until it closed in 1970, and Quiteños are now returning to the ground-floor café and the champagne and cognac bars on the top floor. The restaurant La Belle Epoque—with its three-foot candelabras—is an overexuberant interpretation of the genre; the ambience is festive in the rustic vaulted-ceiling basement wine lounge, El Claustro. Arrangements of Ecuador’s signature roses leave an ever-present scent throughout the hotel."

The staff were absolutely delightful, everything you expect in a luxury hotel. Accommodations were excellent, it was a treat to be staying in the historic district and get to see the President arrive to work in the mornings. Food in the hotel restaurant was delicious. If we return to Quito we will absolutely stay there again! Truly a five star experience.

It’s been a fantastic experience at the Plaza Grande. The staff are truly exceptional — very attentive to our needs and will go over and above to help. Special thanks to the gentlemen at the front desk, restaurant and the rest of the team who assisted us in the last two days. The rooms are lovely, large and well maintained, and the complimentary bottle of wine was an elegant touch too! The location can’t be beat, highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quito!

Fantastic service! No parking right at the hotel, so check with them first—but staff helped us park nearby for just $0.19/hour, very reasonable. Since we had an early flight, Alex and the team kindly packed us a breakfast - sweet fruit, tasty sandwiches, everything perfect. The room was just as nice as expected, plus free wine! Everything went smoothly and we couldn’t be happier.

My husband and I stayed at the Grande Plaza for 5 nights.. The staff are very helpful and pleasant especially at the Front Desk and in the Restaurant. Room is clean and spacious. You can’t ask for a better location. Excellent breakfast and their dining room is highly rated. Thank you to all the staff for a most memorable stay.

I’ve just spent the last 5 nights at Plaza Grande. Is it a unique stay? Yes! Is it value for money at US$340 per night…. I don’t think so. You’re really paying for old world charm rather than luxury. The room was comfortable but lacked some basics like a stocked minibar/fridge as an example. You’re in the centre of the old town which has its perks such as beautiful views and access to lots of tourist locations. There are some considerations out of the hotel’s control that did impact the stay: at 5:50am EVERY morning, the cathedral bells start tolling. There is also a lot of street noise as the President’s office is 10m away and every police escort beeps its horn or sirens as it goes by. The bathtub is also a bit of a death trap so be mindful if you have accessibility requirements. The service here is lovely but I probably wouldn’t stay here again and thankful that I used my credit card points to cover this hotel cost rather than my own cash.

For two nights, I was treated like a queen at this luxury hotel overlooking Plaza Grade. The square is heavily protected by police . Hotel Grande Plaza, the President’s quarters, the arch bishop’s house are within the square.||The doorman greets you upon entrance into a rose filled reception room.|Check-in is a breeze. The front desk is 24/7 and English speaking.|They will assist you in any manner.||The clean room is exquisite with many amenities:|A bottle of wine, cookies, chocolates, coffees & a free cocktail at their bar.|Soft bedding & pillows|Large bathroom|TV…|Lounging chair…||The breakfast was delicious .|My order was:|an omelette with small pancakes|Juice, fruit dish with yogurt, coffee, & breads.||The lunch & dinners were wonderful as well.||I highly recommend this hotel for old world charm, elegance & sophistication.

Very welcoming, informative, and kind staff. When traveling abroad, it can be intimidating knowing you are not fluent in their language. They were appreciative of attempts to speak Spanish, but staff was fluent in English and conversations were easy. The room had almost everything you could need, but be prepared for a little bit of street noise overnight and during the day. The benefit of this is that you’re in the thick of the city, with the market and most things being within a 10 minute or less walk.
