Hotel Pontsteiger (Amsterdam, North Holland) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"We know, we did a double-take too — where Rem Koolhaas had to go all the way to Beijing to erect the conjoined towers affectionately known as “big pants,” Amsterdam-based architects Arons en Gelauff built their spectacular Pontsteiger building on their home city’s waterfront. The brief was to maximize the space given to the most useful parts of the building — the upper floors, for the views, and the lower floors, for their interface with the city — and minimize what’s in between. And rather than give the whole thing over to residents, the developers reserved enough space for twenty-five rooms’ worth of travelers: the Hotel Pontsteiger." - Tablet Hotels

Gorgeous room with big floor to ceiling windows. The bed was so comfortable and the shower had amazing pressure. Great amenities come with the room. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Amsterdam!

Travelling from the UK we spent 3 nights in a deluxe riverside room. We found the price of the room very reasonable compared to other options across the city, especially as the location of Hotel Ponsteiger was so great for buses to Centraal and the ferry across to NDSM as well as the hotel having a bit of additional character being right on the river. It was so relaxing watching the lights dance on the river at night. There was a nice bar/cafe area where we enjoyed a hot drink one evening and looked out over the river, though there was some confusion about how to order drinks, which felt slightly awkward. Despite this, though, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was a great size for a city break, but it would have been perfect if there were some additional spaces to store guest's belongings. The shower space was huge and provided toiletries were lovely. We enjoyed using the Marshall bluetooth speaker that was provided and it was great to have tea and coffee making facilities. No mini fridge was provided, however, which would have been a really nice extra. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is a hidden gem, its location is perfect by the river. We had a river view which added a sense of tranquility. The room itself was super clean every day and whilst we were not the only ones, we didn’t hear any noise (unusual for a hotel). The bed was extremely comfortable. ||||The location is about 20-30 min walk to Amsterdam Central, the bus runs regularly and takes less than 10 minutes (number 48), super convenient. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. ||||I would definitely stay here again. Thank you.

Hotel Pontsteiger was a good hotel! The rooms were well-equipped and clean. The bed was super comfortable and spacious! Unfortunately, the ventilation in the toilet didn’t work, and there was no shelf or hook in the shower to place a towel – so we always had to walk through the room soaking wet to get one. We also would’ve loved to let some fresh air into the room, but sadly the windows couldn’t be opened – only air conditioning was available. Apart from that, a great hotel!||

No Windows in the room !!! They advertice with big Windows and bright rooms but as soon as u get in the room u realize that behind the curtain, you just have a window facing the corridor. You can also look from one room to another ( when the curtains are open) no fresh air only air-con. The building is a shared building with apartments. Next point is the Marshall box. It’s not working. Only a prep and the TV is also not working. The bathroom is very big and nice but the water goes everywhere so we had a flooded bath the first day. Overall good location you have to walk 20 min to the city but not for the price and not for a prison room.

Extremely Disappointing Return Visit We stayed at Hotel Pontsteiger back in 2022 and were very satisfied with both the parking options, the service, and the room. Because of that great experience, we decided to return this April, booking the Deluxe Room for several nights and reserving a parking space in the underground garage. Unfortunately, this stay was extremely disappointing for several reasons: Despite advertising 24h service at the reception, no one was present to even open the door when we arrived at 1 PM. Throughout our entire stay, there was only ever one person working at the reception at a time. This leads directly to the next problem: Access to the underground parking is no longer available via room card (as it was in 2022), but only if you contact reception and manage to catch the one person working there to manually open the doors for you. The same applies when you return: you have to call ahead or let them know when you expect to arrive, otherwise, you are stuck. This system feels incredibly restrictive and uncomfortable, almost as if you are being monitored all the time. Since the staff has to accompany guests to the garage, you would at least expect some help with the luggage - but no. Instead, we were impatiently asked if there was "more left in the car or if that was it," while we were still carrying our things. Because of the one-person staffing situation, check-in also took about an hour since four rooms had to check in at the same time - something that is absolutely foreseeable and could have been planned for. Another very unprofessional moment happened when we tried to clarify discrepancies between our parking booking details and the times shown in the Vondel Hotels web app (the web app that was officially linked in our reservation email). When we showed the Webpage to the staff, the receptionist just looked at us blankly, saying they had never seen it before and had no idea what it was. For a hotel belonging to the Vondel Hotels group, this is simply unacceptable. Aside from the poor staffing situation, the restricted parking access, and the unmotivated, unprofessional service, the room itself was simply not clean: dirt under the bed, hair on the table, and more. All in all, this stay was sadly very disappointing. tldr: Hotel Pontsteiger has declined significantly since 2022 - poor staffing, restricted parking access, unprofessional service, and dirty rooms made our stay a 1/5 experience.

When I booked this room it did not say there were not any windows. I have been told it said inner room when I booked it but this was not the case and even inner rooms normally have windows. I was truly dissapointed taking my misses away for an early birthday and it feels like we are staying in a prison cell. Reception staff were as helpful as they could be as the hotel is fully booked . This has truly ruined our break away 😔

This hotel is definitely to be avoided ! The staff is great, very attentive and helpful, but that doesn’t compensate the negative parts of this hotel. The deluxe room are all facing the IJ river, which is great for the view, but what is not mentioned is that it is really closed to the ndsm Pontsteiger stop. You can hear almost non stop the sound of the 2 boats stationed and leaving. First boat shift ends around 10:45, the other one past midnight. We weren’t able to sleep much. For the price we paid (230€), you can definetly find a quieter hotel/room somewhere else.
