Hotel Portinari

Our stay at Hotel Portinari was truly delightful. We were on the top floor (5th) where the windows opened to a charming view of the plaza, a picture of Bruges that felt both lively and serene. Saturday morning a big market opened up and we enjoyed many delicious delights. The location of hotel is just perfect. Close to every beautiful places in Bruges center and even easy walk from the train station. The room itself was warm and inviting, perfect for an autumn visit. I loved the thoughtful design: spacious yet cozy, with an open-style bathroom that added a touch of modern simplicity. Every detail seemed carefully considered from the comfortable bed and excellent water pressure to the refillable glass water bottle, a small but meaningful gesture of sustainability. Even with a DJ event taking place right in the square below, the room remained peacefully quiet, with only the faintest vibration reminding us of the festivities outside. The staff’s kindness stood out most. The gentleman at the concierge greeted us with such genuine warmth, setting the tone for our stay. And each time we crossed paths with a lovely lady (perhaps the manager or owner) her gracious smile made us feel sincerely welcome, as if we were returning guests. We didn’t have breakfast, though the spread looked generous and inviting. Still, the comfort of the room, the quiet charm of the hotel, and the care in every interaction left a wonderful impression. Definitely recommend and happy to come back anytime.

I had a wonderful stay in Hotel Portinari, and a great Day visit in Bruges. Though it is a bit rainy and chilling outside, I felt fresh and relaxed. The hotel is modern, stylish, delicately designed with ideas, and most importantly has a wonderful crew of staff. From the check-in reception lady, to the morning breakfast madam, and the next day when I checked out, David(I hope I got his name right) can speak Mandarin! All of them are very polite and friendly! Lastly I have to highlight the breakfast, it was probably the best breakfast I ve had during this time Europe trip, and the cappuccino machine is like making a cloud 💭 dream.

We checked in on early Monday evening and it was quick and hassle free. Our room is located on the third floor and the junior suite is quite spacious with separate toilet. The tub is large with shower nozzles with excellent water pressure. The king size bed is firm and we loved it; we were able to have a great rest on our first night and did not suffer the usual jet lag we endured in the past trips to Europe. The location of the hotel is excellent; adjacent to Zand square and easy walking distance to all attractions. Plenty of fine dining establishments in the vicinity. We were able to watch the La Machine performances from our window; it was very interesting. We still have one more night to go before heading to Lyon, and we are very happy with this excellent establishment. Further, house keeping did a great job throughout our stay and I would give this hotel a five star rating, but mobile version of TripAdvisor only allows me to gives a four star rating, which is bit strange. Perhaps there is a glitch on my aging I phone 13.

We have just spent a relaxing weekend in Bruges and stayed at the beautiful, Portinari hotel. The location is perfect - a short walk from Bruges train/coach stations on a lively boulevard and close to central attractions and a great range of restaurants and bars.||The staff team is lovely, |all very welcoming and helpful. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Good variety of hot and cold items for breakfast in a cosy, relaxed environment. I highly recommend this hotel for a short city break which is exactly as described on their website.

We loved this place. Great location, the breakfast is quite worth it, the staff was friendly and helpful. We really liked the concept of the room, travelling as a couple. A shout-out to Jerneja for helping me prepare a surprise for my girlfriend, a continent away.

Booked this beautiful hotel in November to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends. Had read the reviews and was excited about our stay!|Two weeks prior to departure from the UK the return leg of our Eurostar journey was unexpectedly cancelled. This gave us no other option but to cancel the whole trip.|We immediately contacted the hotel who would offer no flexibility in moving our dates, even to January when tourism might be at a low, but they were unwilling to help. After seeking advice from our reputable travel insurance company we were told that we did not for the criteria for a claim having not already ‘departed’ for Hotel Portinari . We have now lost our £360 hotel money - Money none of us can afford to lose.|Whilst the staff were prompt in replying and polite, they would offer no flexibility in our time of need.|We have been really let down by Hotel Portinari Bruges, even when suggesting several other options of how to continue with our weekend of celebrations (vouchers/moving dates etc).|~PLEASE BE GUARDED WHEN BOOKING HOTEL PORTINARI AND CONSIDER OTHER HOTELS FIRST WHICH OFFER MORE FLEXIBILITY & UNDERSTANDING~

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Portinari. The staff were very welcoming, from the moment we arrived, until we left. |If ever in Bruges again, we would certainly stay there.

Hotel Portinari's main advantage is its location, as it is conveniently situated within walking distance of Bruges' major tourist attractions, including the Belfort. Additionally, there is public parking nearby, although it does not belong to the hotel. The garage can be confusing to navigate, so I recommend asking the hotel for detailed directions before your arrival.||Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The hotel feels outdated and lacks proper cleanliness. Our biggest issue was that our room had a strong smell of vomit. It was clear that someone had been sick near the door before our arrival. Although the area may have been wiped down, the stain and odor remained, making our stay feel unpleasant and unhygienic.||Another significant downside is the bathroom design. We stayed in a "Club Collection" room, and the bathroom consisted of a glass enclosure in the middle of the room. You can see directly into the shower and toilet area from the beds, providing zero privacy. This setup might be acceptable for couples, but it is definitely not suitable for families or anyone who values bathroom privacy.||I would not stay here again and strongly recommend considering other options in Bruges.

What a wonderful stay; Portinari Hotel was such a highlight for us (family of four, with adult children, sharing a room). Receptionist (and former Owner) Anna took such great care of us. The room was very clean, and well-cared-for. There was a carnival in the plaza that we so enjoyed, but we slept peacefully because the sound-proof windows were incredible. The champagne and chocolates we ordered were waiting for us on arrival, and we highly recommend treating yourself this way. The box quantity was so plentiful - we ended up purchasing this brand as gifts for family! Breakfast included a hot breakfast of eggs, breakfast meats, wafffles with wonderful toppings (nutella, jams, assorted flavored morsels, yogurts, wonderful breads, pastries, juices, and a self-serve coffee machine with many flavorful options. Location is a 12-15 minute walk to/from the train station - take the park path to avoid rolling luggage over so many pavers. Access to the main plaza and tower is a 12-15 minute walk with busy shopping streets all along the way. We felt very safe our entire time in Bruges. There are restaurants on the plaza. Beware of surprise requests after the meal to pay with cash instead of credit. A waiter at nearby De Hanze surprised us by insisting on cash instead of Visa, including calling me away from the table into the bar area. I gave some and charged the rest, but realized after that this was a hustle. In hindsight I regret not getting angry at the table and calling the waiter out in front of others. Infuriating. It's too bad, because the food was excellent. A favorite restaurant was La Gondola, Oude Burg 22, 8000 Bruges, Belgium. It was nothing from the street, but it was a pleasant dining room inside with wonderful service and a plentiful meal.

I hate hotels and dread staying in them. This was not the case for the Portinari, which I really enjoyed. The hotel was much larger than I would have expected. I enjoyed the view of the square (although it's under construction) and that they have a luggage room so that you can leave your items behind before you check in. I also really liked the rain shower head, although the bathroom got soaked every time I bathed because of the typical shower curtain-less/wall-less showers that are common in Europe. The only thing that mildly grossed me out was a piece of hair I saw in the drain. But that was nothing.

Good bang for your buck. Very clean. Very new. Restaurant selection right outside isn't the best but you can walk right into the city and be wherever you want very quickly. Reasonable walk from the train station. It doesn't look very close from the map but the view walking in makes it feel fast.

Great little hotel right in the action of Brugge. My room was comfortable, clean, spacious, and well air conditioned! There breakfast was well rounded and delicious and all the staff was extremely kind and helpful. I upgraded to a junior suite for only 15 extra dollars and the room was perfect for me. I was within walking distance from the plaza square but far enough away that there wasn't all the riff raff of the bars like other hotels IN the heart of the city. Great Hotel, overall highly recommend it, will be going back next time I'm in Brugge. One note when they say two beds they are really just two twins put right next to each other but not a problem for me

A good hotel right on the outskirts of the Grand Plaz, only took us a 5 minute walk to get there. The room was pretty small, a 2 twin-bed room and it didn't have an iron or a hair dryer in it, but other than that, comfortable beds and a well-stocked shower and bathroom. The employees were very courteous and helpful with directions and tourist-related questions. I would recommend this hotel.

This little hotel packs a big punch. I'm about a year too late on this hotel. Our story starts out as two women who loose their luggage and just barely made it to Brugge. We were exhausted and the sweetest woman Ann checked us in. We entered a clean and simple room where we passed out. The window had a fantastic view. When we went down for breakfast the spread was unbelievable! You WILL NOT go hungry there. They had multiple breads, yogurts, smoked salmon, cheeses, eggs bacon and meats, cereal etc. They spared no expense. We were going to have to spend most of our day on the phone with Delta which had been trying to get our luggage to us for Days! We were only spending 2 or 3 days at a city so by the time we left it would arrive, or in our case it went back to Philadelphia!!!! Anyway, clearly that would have ruined our time in Belgium. Ann did not let that happen. After listening to our story and the trouble with the airline. She wrote a report for us to hand in with our claim to Delta, she spent so much time on the phone for us, let us use her phone free of charge, faxed stuff for us, cc'd us on emails to Delta customer service and checked the online database for our luggage that she because of being in the industry she had access to. She worked so hard for us. She even invited us to have wine on her in the bar. Turns out she is an owner of the hotel. Can you imagine the owner of the hotel taking the time out of her day and night to give such care to two guests? She was a remarkable woman. We owe our fond memories of Brugge to her. We never could have gone bike riding or seeing the sights or buying chocolate :). She and her level of care is why you should give her your business. Her establishment represents what customer service is. This hotel will always be a referral in my book. I'm an avid traveler, and I've been all over the world and I have to say you can go to a "higher" star rating hotel but you might be over looked and just seen as a customer and not a guest. This place is pure quality. I would in a second go back. It has a fantastic location to the train station, the city shopping area and restaurants. I promise you will not be disappointed if you go here. It's a wise decision.
