Yelp
For the price, this is as good as it gets. I stayed for 5 nights and paid less than $50 USD per night - that's a steal!
LOCATION - This was my favorite aspect of the property. The hotel is technically located in El Centro but is right at the Rio Cuale that separates it from the Zona Romantica. Two blocks from the hotel is the Malecon boardwalk which will take you up and down the entire stretch, and you can be at the Town Center within 5 minutes and Playa de los Muertos (the most popular beach) within 10 minutes. It doesn't get any better.
ROOM - I was in a two bed room on the fourth floor (technically the fifth). This is no Starwood property, but there was ample room inside and it was clean. The beds ended up being really comfortable. There is a nice-sized TV that gets many channels as well as an in-room air conditioning unit and a window that doesn't really offer up much of a view. It's all marbled floors including the bathroom, which unfortunately smelled a little funky. There is no enclosed shower and the stall is right next to the toilet (which didn't flush well). The closet area is a really a dresser that's connected to the bathroom. No safe so be wary of that. If you need a iron and board, you can request one from the front desk.
AMENITIES - There was a very basic gym on the ground floor as well as two computers for use. Free wi-fi though so you might not even need that! On the fourth floor, there is a jacuzzi and small outdoor patio area that mostly overlooks El Centro with a great view of the mountains. Included in the price is a small breakfast buffet everyday. I have to say it did not impress me much, especially the stale-tasting waffles, but the chilaquiles were decent and the service was friendly. In the room are also two bottles of water which housekeeping will refill. You can also request beach towels.
All in all, I would definitely stay here again if solely for the price and location. If you're a traveler not dependent on resort amenities and looking for a central place to explore the area, I highly recommend Hotel Porto Allegro!
