I stayed here back in 2009 and it was fantastic! I was glad to see it is still there.Friendly and beautiful breakfast looking out towards the front garden.Obrigardo!

This is a great place to stay to enjoy Barra. I am not saying it is a 5 star hotel.... But as pousadas go, this has it all. The staff is great, the breakfast is very good, the location is perfect, it is very funky (if you like that shirt of thing), the beds are comfortable. Being so close to the beach and so open to the elements, there seems to be a challenge keeping the brightly painted walls looking crisp and clean which us my only negative comment. Keep it up M & W.

Price is good, and you get what you pay for. Now, decided on this place because of the great comments. It is not that great. It is very loud and crowded during the morning, specially during breakfast time and since you take it at the front desk, you can hear everything and everyone. Now, people working here are fantastic. They are very polite and they would actually go out of their way to help you feel better. Food is Ok, I recommend you request the Tapioca. The bathroom is small and very inconvenient, at least the one we got. Finally, if you are sort of in a budget, then you will be very well here. If you are willing to make an effort and you are looking to relax, you might be more comfortable somewhere else.

Chose this hotel due to price and location. Location is superb being very close to the beach front with lots of amenities really closeby. Unlike many other TripAdvisor reviewers, our room experience (triple room) was very bad. The floor tiles were full of grime that stuck to our feet. We couldn't change the room. The maid tried cleaning the grime off the following morning, so it smelled better but what it really needs is a good scrubbing. There were no curtains and all we had was thick glass which did not block out street light. Plus lots of street / music from outside and the fact that we slept at all was a testament to how dead tired we were. The breakfast was pretty good and the staff had decent English. I did peep in to some other rooms. They seemed decent- so looks like we just had an awful room from hell!!

Lovely pousada in a typical old house and recently renovated. I loved the decor and colors, making it a jewel. We booked on internet for 3 nights; When we arrived we were given a pretty room warning us that the next day we could change it for a better one. In fact, the second room was spectacular, with a balcony and a very nice view. The breakfast buffet is very rich and varied. The staff has always been very helpful in giving us any information and help (speaking english, portugues and french). Another argument in favor is the location: one step from the Orla of Barra, less than 100 meters from the bus stop (for the Pelourinho and for the airport).

Our first visit to Salvador where we stayed a week in Papaya Verde. We had the best time. The hotel is in a quiet street and close to some excellent beaches, restaurants and bars. All great places to hang out during day or evenings. The Pousada has a beautiful garden and terras where you can chill in one of the hammocks. A very relaxing atmosphere and super friendly staff, they gave us some good advice on how to enjoy the best of Salvador. Our room had a small balcony, very comfortable beds and airco. It was perfect for our stay and very good value for money. Breakfast included i.a. (good) coffee, fresh fruits, juices, cakes, eggs and more. Thanks again guys for making our stay memorable. We hope to visit again one day soon!

The pousada is very well located, at 2 minutes from the beach in the neighborhood of Barra which is quiet, surrounded by a lot of nice restaurants (but not the good place to party). The place is lovely, with a really nice terrace, but a little bit "kitsch", everything is flashy green or lilac and it can be agressive on morning. We had a really small room that we don't recommend (number 14). The breakfast has a lot of choices but some things are really bizar, and the juices were dreadful. The receptionists were adorable, with a lot of good advices and they really helped us to see the best of Salvador.

The Pousada Papaya Verde was a terrific place to stay. The rooms are very simple (some better than others - I stayed there at the beginning of my trip in Bahia and the end) but is completely made up for with the best staff around and a lovely breakfast -full of choices, for everyone. If you need a luxury hotel this is certainly not the place to go. Bit if you are looking for an unpretentious place to stay with simple amenities in the Barra district (close to the water/beach, some good cafes, and restaurants, as well as buses that take you just about anywhere) then this is the spot for you. All rooms are fairly small but clean (although a couple of rooms are very small.) No matter, if you know to expect this - it is all good. The price is certainly right. The staff makes it even more right.
