"If you’re in San José, you’re likely on your way somewhere else. But that doesn’t mean you have to settle for a generic chain hotel near the airport. Welcome to Hotel Presidente. Located in the heart of San José’s historic downtown, within a few blocks of the key cultural attractions in the Costa Rican capital, it’s conveniently located for a bit of sightseeing and exploring. And it’s not just practical, but subtly hip. It’s the sort of place with exposed brick walls and parquet floors in the lobby, and a garden with lounge space on the rooftop; it’s the kind of hotel that lends complimentary bicycles to guests." - Tablet Hotels

If I could give more stars for service I would. The service overall in Costa Rica has been fantastic but these folks set a new bar. Responsive and helpful for any questions that might come up. Timely assistance with bags and check in/check out. SQUEAKY CLEAN rooms and the breakfast was very good. Walking distance to museums and a couple parks. I’m not maybe the best on describing ambience but maybe industrial chic? Lovely plants everywhere including their rooftop restaurant. We both loved the food. The bellhop/lobby supervisor Jorge efficiently facilitated our bags anywhere we needed to go and was SO helpful watching for our transportation when they were caught in traffic. He REALLY took care of us and too great pride in every interaction. We enjoyed our short visit there so much. Very restful when you know you don’t have to worry about a thing.

The standard rooms are about what you would expect. No real complaints. It did what we needed. The rest of the hotel common areas were quite beautiful. The breakfast was good, the coffee strong! Location was perfect for getting in all the last call sights in downtown San Jose! Everything is close.

We stayed here for just one night at the beginning of our honeymoon. What a classy and neat place to stay. Our room was very basic in amenities, but spacious and clean and the beds comfortable. We had an early dinner at the hotel restaurant that was delicious. Valet parking was straightforward and our rental car was kept secure, an important hotel feature in a major city. And the hotel itself is in a building that is rich with history as an important place to go in San Jose, and has found both a new lease on life as a hotel while honoring its place in the growth and revitalization of a great nation’s capital city. We would gladly stay here again.

Great experience with excellent service from a team of exceptional employees who could not have been more accommodating in every way. Our room was exceptionally clean with beautiful furniture. The breakfast was delicious with cooked to order options in a lovely room. The rooftop restaurant was so great that we went every day of our stay. |The hotel is in a great location, was very safe, and well maintained. We had a wonderful experience.

We had a one-night stay after flying in to San Jose then driving to our condo in Jaco the following day. The hotel was nice. Common areas had been upgraded and look great. The room was fine. The valet parking was appreciated, as we were able to unload our luggage then turn over the vehicle for safe parking until we were ready to leave. The hotel restaurant was very good. But the best thing about Hotel Presidente is the staff. All were friendly and helpful. Kiny and Luis M at the registration desk were great. Special thanks to Andrea, our waitress in the hotel restaurant. She was smiling and friendly, and even let us practice our Spanish lessons.

Comfortable, clean and stylish hotel in a central location. I cannot express enough gratitude for the staff. Every interaction with them both at the hotel and the restaurant was amazing. They went above and beyond to help us catch our transfer to the airport a few blocks away from the hotel while all the surrounding streets were closed due to a marathon. Thank you!

The hotel is in a very good location and the communal areas of the hotel are nice. Our room was big but very plain and the bathroom wasn’t great, the water pressure in the shower was extremely weak and it took ages for the shower to heat up. Our booking included breakfast, however we had to leave at 6am and despite informing reception of this, we were not offered a takeaway box for breakfast so we did not get good value for money.

Staying at Hotel Presidente was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment you walk through the doors, the warmth and attentiveness of the staff immediately stand out—they truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for. The rooms are a highlight in themselves—beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, blending modern touches with artistic charm that reflects the local culture. Every detail feels intentional and stylish. The beds are incredibly comfortable, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploring the city. Security is present 24/7, which adds a great sense of comfort and peace of mind during your stay. The location of the hotel is unbeatable—right in the heart of downtown San José, within easy walking distance to countless restaurants, shops, museums, and other attractions. One of the true standouts of Hotel Presidente is the rooftop terrace restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, and the views over the city were just as memorable. The service here, like the rest of the hotel, was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and professional. Whether you're visiting San José for business or leisure, Hotel Presidente offers a perfect blend of comfort, style, and location all delivered with genuine Costa Rican hospitality. Highly recommended!
