I stayed here for one night and overall had a pleasant experience. The hotel is in an ideal location—just a 5-minute walk to the train and 10 minutes to the bus. I felt very safe during my stay and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast overlooking the canal. While some reviews mentioned unfriendly reception staff, my experience was the opposite. I arrived late at night, and they were welcoming and quick to sort out my room. ⚠️ A word of advice: do not book the standard twin room—it’s comically small (~8x6ft). I requested an upgrade and was so glad I did. The superior room was spacious, with a pull-out sofa that would easily fit 2–4 people. Pros Safe location Good complimentary breakfast with canal view Convenient for public transportation (5–10 min walk) 15–20 min walk to main attractions Vintage interior (charming for some, outdated for others) Friendly, helpful reception Cons Pricey for a somewhat outdated property Strong sewage smell at the entrance Standard room size is impractical Bellhop during my evening check in process made uncomfortable racial remarks

Stayed in this lovely hotel 3 nights late August with family. Booked 2 superior rooms , Reception staff upgraded one to include canal view which was like a fairytale with magnificent views. The second room did not disappoint and was exceptionally decorated so beautifully with private terrace & small sitting room , just like a little apartment. This hotel has wonderful fresh diffusers on each floor which add to the ambience of the antiques and attractive furnishings. Our rooms were 315 canal view & 322 I would definitely book again. Hotel has very high standard of cleaning & service , ideally located , walking to any attractions in less than 35 mins or v near the vaporettos or water taxis/gondolas. We were pleasantly surprised at the friendliness and professionalism of all staff especially the Gentlemen at reception , as previous reviewers have stated the opposite. The hotel is peaceful and comfortable to sleep, bed linen , towels , toiletries etc good quality and bathrooms spacious and impressively sparkling clean . We ate breakfast there on each morning and found it to be plentiful , fruits , continental , and hot platters. All food and drink at breakfast was very good standard. The staff here replenished as needed and were very good at their job Well done to you all for making your hotel a wonderful place in Venice to stay And we will certainly be back 🤩 Ciao for now !

I was with a Trafalgar Tours group. We stayed at the Principe for 3 nights in August while we were in Venice. I had a nice room with an outside view of a square and if I looked to the right, I could see the Grand Canal. The room was very comfortable. We were in the midst of a heat wave with temperatures in the high 90s--and the AC worked well. The bathroom had a shower in good condition for use. The included breakfast was delicious. We had a farewell banquet there, too, and that was quite good. The front desk was very helpful. Some moldings needed a little bit of painting--but not much. That's all the negative I could say about the Principe. It is in a good location. On a few occasions we took a water taxi to other islands from the Principe's entrance on the Grand Canal side. Of course, there was a main entrance as well on the main street side.

We had a lovely stay, next to Grand Canal so very busy waterway, fascinating to sit and watch everyone going about their work, while having breakfast next to the water. Hotel in a good position for transport, buses, trains, ferries and restaurants.|Hotel clean and well air conditioned. Lovely reception area. Our room had its own balcony at the back, very warm to sit outside, but hubby enjoyed that heat. |Only negative, we took nothing from the mini bar on first day, then asked if complimentary (water, Fanta, coke as there was no tea making facilities ), was told yes, so following 3 days had the water and a couple of fizzy drinks, to then find on check out, we had to pay for minibar. Didn't have time to ask what was chargeable or free as we had a bus to catch and waited for reception to deal with us for over 5 mins (at 6am), no one else there, so darted for the bus so as not to miss it. It would have been better to have a list of what was available and costs on the table in room, just a suggestion, so you are informed well. Fabulous stay, would stay here again.

First stayed here in 2018, and had a great stay. So when I was looking for a hotel post-cruise, this was my first choice. Our cruise finished in Trieste which is a good couple of hours away for reference. We got off the train in Santa Lucia train station, and decided on a porter to take our cases to our hotel, which was only a few minutes walk away which I knew, but it was very warm! |We arrived early, and told our room wouldn’t be ready until 3pm, official check-in time. We left our luggage, and returned several hours later. We just had a “standard” room at the side of the hotel, with no view worth looking at. But that’s what I’d booked, so no surprises there. The room - and the hotel, looks quite dated and tired, and probably not what you would expect of a 4* establishment. |We had drinks out on the terrace, and it was just as wonderful as I remembered, albeit without the snacks that were served with drinks back in 2018. We had breakfast included in our two night stay, and this is served buffet style in a lovely dining room, and they open the doors so you can sit out on the terrace should you wish, although beware of the seagulls and pigeons! |I can’t say that my stay this time was as good as what I recalled, but the location on the Grande Canal is hard to beat, and I think ultimately that that is what you are paying for.

This hotel was pretty nice. Right on the canal and very close to shopping, restaurants and bars. It was clean and the staff was attentive. Could use a few upgrades like on the hotel room doors. Has an elevator. Beds were comfortable. I had no real view of anything from my room. They do have free breakfast which was very good and a lot of variety. The bar was closed for a special event so that was a bummer. They do have outside dining on the canal side.

The location here was amazing, close to the train station and a short walk into all the sights. The room was cleaned daily and a good size.Hotel staff were super friendly hand helpful, breakfast had a fair choice of cold cuts and breads/cakes and a small selection of cooked foods (eggs, bacon, sausage)The only real disappointment of our stay was that despite having very specifically booked a double bed room, our room was two single beds which had been shoved together, with two single mattresses and separate bedding. The beds were very easy to slide apart from each other and I almost rolled into the gap between them during the night.Would still recommend but be mindful when choosing your room

Google
Great Location! Perfect to walk, or take water taxis and trains. Nice clean rooms. Wish they had tea and coffee complimentary in the rooms. But the room we had didnt. However did not affect the experience at all. Venice was amazing.

Yelp
Hotel Principe is within walking distance of the S. Luca train station in Venice, which makes it very convenient to get to. Room 219 is large (two beds) and its windows open up right on the canal. The bathroom is large and well-appointed and the staff are amazing. It is also within walking distance to all the water buses/water taxis/and gondolas for travel within Venice. There is even a grocery store (Despar) and ATM right across the street.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great location close to train station, waterbus access, shops, food and 15-20 min walk to Doge and Saint Marks.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel while on a tour by Trafalgar. This hotel is very close to the train station and boat drop off in Venice. Unfortunately that is about the only positive thing I can say about the hotel. We got to our room and it was absolutely TINY. Every hotel we stayed at in Italy was small but this one was the smallest. I had to actually turn sideways to get past the TV on the wall to get to the other side of the room. When we got into the room, it was about 80 degrees and the AC wouldn't turn on. Apparently in Venice they don't allow hotels to run AC after October 14th. I guess this might normally be OK since you would expect it to be cold in October but it was fairly warm when we were there. I asked the front desk what was going on and they said they would bring us a fan. Someone brought us a fan about 5 minutes later, but it didn't work! Also opening the windows wasn't an option as there is no screen and mosquitos are rampant on Venice. Plus you hear talking with the street vendors that are right below the windows not to mention EVERYONE smokes in Italy so you're smelling cigarette smoke. So both nights we stayed here I ended up sleeping with a wet towel draped over me. The breakfast here is just OK. The "bacon" tastes weird and they only have white toast. But breakfast at every hotel we stayed at in Italy kind of sucked as breakfast isn't a thing here.

Yelp
Very nice hotel in the Jewish Quarter, a three minute walk from the Ferovia and very convenient to all of Canareggio. Clean and very nicely appointed rooms. Ours was on the top floor on the Rio Tera Lista di Espagna, which has a lot of action during the evening into the night. Of particular note was the help provided by Safi, who, during the three days we were there, greeted us frequently and always with a smile. Breakfast here is considerably more than the traditional continental style at most albergos here and was greatly appreciated. Eggs, Italian bacon, toast, sausage, pancakes, fresh fruit and much, much more.

Yelp
The check in was done today and we are staying here one night. The process was quick and easy. Ah! Hotel is clean and so well designed!! We have a balcony with a table and chairs. I highly recommend Hotel Principe. The ambience is amazing and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

Yelp
This was the last hotel out of 3 that we stayed in for a Trafalgar tour of the great Italian cities. The room was the cleanest of all the three, with good character. It was spacious and quiet and had a little patio out back. The hotel lobby is charming and the restaurant on the canal is a great spot to enjoy Venice. The hotel is in the heart of the main drag so there are spots to shop and eat right outside the entrance. It's a great location to start a loop walk if the whole town and wander through the alley ways and over the bridges. The buffet breakfast was great. They have neat little jam, Nutella and syrup dispensers, a juice machine, yogurt machine, pancake machine and assortments of fruit including fresh cut watermelon. The only inconvenience is having to drop off and pick up the room key every time when entering and exiting the hotel, but it gives it an old hotel vibe which is pretty cool too.

Yelp
Staff were extremely rude and had no solutions other than 'what do you want me to do?' The front staff were outright rude and bothered by any and all questions. Not helpful regarding questions about Venice and seemed irritated. The location is good being on the grand canal. My room had socks on the lamp from the previous guest and some type of insulation was falling on the pillow from the skylight that was unlocked. Additionally, this particular room has terrible wifi and must be located close to the kitchen. The a/c was turned off by the hotel so small windows were the only sources of air flow. You can hear dishes breaking and clinking until late night. This is not every room but I would immediately ask for a room change if you get this particular one & if wifi & sound are important. Choose another hotel if service is important as well

Yelp
A cute hotel in the heart of the city. It has the perfect location. You are not too far from everything. Surround by restaurants, shops and bars and a few bakeries. So much to do here. Just outside the hotel. The rooms are nice and comfortable. My room overlooked the street. That was cool for me because I had a nice view however I could hear people walking down the street and there conversation all night long. My room was a little hot and so I found out that during the cool month the aircondition unit is turned off in all the rooms. The front desk agent told me to open up the windows. The windows here do not have a mosquito screen. There are crazy mosquitoes here. I had a Choice of being hot or being bitter, not happy. This hotel had a nice continental breakfast. The restaurant is cute I really enjoyed there Italian style coffee. I would not recommend there version of American coffee.

Yelp
Nice location, nice room. Front desk is consistently rude and abrupt. Will not return here to be spoken to so rudely every time. Being rude is a choice.

Yelp
Initially when I checked in, I was disappointed because the room I got was not facing the Grand Canal, but the alley and a market instead even though we made a request for a balcony OR a view of the Grand Canal. We got neither. It turns out that it would cost 80 euros more to get a view... and it was pretty pricey for a one night stay without the view already. The service at the front desk is not spectacular but it was fine. The breakfast is mediocre, not too many options, nothing too amazing just basic continental. You can eat outside on the Grand Canal with a great view but there are a lot of pigeons flocking around... and will eat your food if you leave it. There is no procedure for checking into breakfast, you just go seat yourself. So technically anyone could just walk in and have breakfast... The great thing about Hotel Principe is the location - half a block from the Venezia train station and 10 minutes max from the piazza where the buses to airport/anywhere else are. We checked out at 12PM (not allowed to check out any later) and stored our luggages free of charge until 9PM because we had a late night flight out of Venice. Very flexible. It is a little bit of a walk to the rest of Venice but hey, gotta choose prime transportation location or prime sightseeing location!

Yelp
Stayed December 2022, will never stay here again. Booked one double bed 3 nights, first night put me in room with two twin beds and said they sold out even though I paid for an upgraded room. Next day they switched me. Room here make Motel 6 look like the Ritz Carlton. They keep up lobby and breakfast multi use room but that's it. Worst 4star I've ever booked. Rooms are horrific.

Yelp
Very lovely place conveniently located to train station. I stayed for a week and it was very centrally located & is was very clean & had safe accommodations. Front desk demeanor could use a bit of improvement but everything else was amazing! The breakfast was delightful with amazing views.

Yelp
Had a wonderful night's stay. Amazing rooms over looking the Grand Canal. Super helpful service. And! And! A million extra pillows just waiting to be added to our bed. How did they know I always need extra pillows?! What's more: the breakfast was exactly what we needed at this stage in our travels. I recommend. We will come back next time we stop in Venice.

Yelp
It's ok but yo ask for a glass is cheap plastic & only give you for the number people in the room. Basic room & don't expect latest technology nor quality of service.

Carol G.

Yelp
If you want to sleep in a closet this is the place for you. The bathroom was so small you couldn't put anything in it except yourself. The sleeping area also had no place to put your belongings unless you consider the top of the refrigerator as storage. The staff was not the least bit accommodating. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to stay here. The only plus was that it was right near the train station.

Yelp
It's conveniently located next to the train station and easy to get to there and to the airport because it's right at the entry of the Venetian islands. However, it is not central to all the tourist attractions like San Marco Square with Doges Palace and the Basilica. Also, all the restaurants around the hotel are tourist traps so if you want decent food and not be overcharged/scammed, you'll need to head into deeper the city more to find something better. We were assigned to this hotel through a Gate 1 travel package and was fooled into thinking it would be a 4 star experience. It's not a 4 star hotel by any means. The hotel and rooms are completely dated. I was in room 142 and the walls were turning yellow. They moved two twin sized beds next to each other (with separate blankets) and called it a double bed. The bathrooms don't have a full shower door so water gets everywhere. Just overall, I didn't feel "clean" through the stay. I would classify this as a 3-star hotel at best but the reason I'm removing a star is because the guys at the front desk are grumpy and not the least bit helpful. Also, the hotel promises a free boat ride to Murano for a glass factory tour, but we waited outside for 30 minutes and the boat never came. The boat is supposed to pass by every 15 according to the front desk guy. Anyway after wasting our time, we gave up and took a boat bus outside.

Yelp
I am a single traveler on a group tour. This must have been a signal to the hotel to put me in the smallest hotel room they had, and that I have ever seen. I had to set my suitcase up in the entryway. I only have a 21" carryon but still had to squeeze by it to get inside. I could not turn around in the room without touching the bed. The shower was so small that as an average sized woman I could not turn around without hitting the sides. The shower curtain that kept clinging to my body did not prevent water from flooding the floor. I was appalled. I would not recommend anyone stay here, and will suggest that my tour operator find a new hotel

Yelp
Arriving from Marco Polo airport via water taxi we moored directly at the hotel and the staff was there waiting to take our bags and welcome us. Our room was ready as soon as we arrived which was wonderful since we had been traveling then entire day prior. Our room was nice, nothing fancy, but was very clean and comfortable. Beautiful light fixtures and a large marble bathroom. Loved the towel warmers in the bathroom, nothing like getting out of the shower to a cozy, hot towel. Great location directly on the Grand Canal, with beautiful views of this wonderful city. Step out the front door and you are in the middle of all the action with lots of places to eat, drink, shop, and most importantly grab a gelato. The hotel is located within walking distance to the train station and to vaporetto stop that can take you right to Saint Mark's Square. Was never able to connect to the WiFi in our room, but was able to get on and stay connected when in the lobby or eating breakfast. Cannot comment on the restaurant during dinner hours or the bar, but the breakfasts we had at the hotel during our stay were good and with plenty of selection. All our interactions with the staff were positive and our only complaint was regarding the unreliable WiFi.

Yelp
I can only give one star because it's not allowed to give no star. This four star hotel has the standard of a two star. I hate giving reviews. I lack the patience of writing them. But for the sake of my fellow travelers I have to write this review. Location isn't bad, I do admit it. The customer service is disgusting. They have no patience and treat everyone with no respect whatsoever. They have a extreme negative attitude toward Asians too. All the receptionist has the you owe me money look. Rooms are small and dirty and disgusting. I understand the theme of Venice is classic but I'm sure the 21st century did not add dirty to that. Warning to all! Do not book here!!!

Yelp
Second stay at the Principe We left Rome on the high speed train mid morning and checked into the Principe about 1:30. Our room was very spacious (2 bathrooms & sitting area) and overlooked the Grand Canal. We missed the balcony that we enjoyed on our first stay at the Principe and were moved for the last 3 days of our 5 days in Venice to a smaller, but very nice, room (#123) with a glorious balcony. We were again very satisfied with the Principe and found all the staff very helpful and efficient. The Hotel restaurant is very good and guests got a 20% discount when we visited in April. The Principe deserves 5 stars for the unbeatable location, very nice rooms, excellent staff and maintenance.

Yelp
Front desk men are so rude and unhelpful. We tried to ask a question about the taxi system and they just walked away. The rooms are nicer some of the other hotels we've stayed at in Italy however than the pillows are as thin as flapjacks. The breakfast is disgusting with sour milk and warm fruit. The nicest part however, is that it's a walk away from plenty of restaurants, shops, and the train station. Would only recommend if you don't plan on getting help or need a free breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice hotel on the canal. We had a lovely terrace overlooking the canal. The rooms are nice considering the age of the building. The people working there are very accommodating. The breakfast buffet is great. Plenty of restaurants and shops adjacent to this location. The train as well as water taxis are within walking distance. Would go back to this place
google avatar

Yelp
Hotel was very old and shabby, run down. There was no way thiS WAS A FOUR STAR HOTEL. Room was very small. Location was great but conditions were below that of a motel 6. Carpet was torn and the whole place was in need of maintenance. Bathrooms were pathetic, beyond small. I'd recommend staying anywhere else when in Venice. A few mins walk isn't worth staying at this 2 star hotel
google avatar

Yelp
Very nice centrally located hotel, the style is in classical Venetian. And they had a very good breakfast buffet! The air conditioning could've been a little stronger for my liking but at least they had it!

Alexis D.

Yelp
Great hotel in a lovely location literally directly on the canal. The rooms are a tiny bit small but they are well appointed. The complimentary breakfast is good and coffee/espresso machines are available which is nice. Only issue we had was the safe in our room stopped working on the 2nd day with our documents in it but luckily they resolved it quickly.

Bob Y.

Yelp
Small clean rooms at a great location near the train station. Good breakfast every morning. The lower end staff is very friendly. On the negative side, the first impression staff (the front desk men) seemed rude and not interested in helping. We could not find the bartender to serve us as we were interested in a celebratory drink upon arrival, finally we left to have a drink elsewhere. All in all a good hotel that left us with a bad first impression.
