Friendliest staff of my entire vacation. They were very helpful and knowledgeable in helping me book activities such as kayaking and snorkeling. They know which tour companies are reliable. Quieter than other hotels.

I really loved this hotel - the location, decor, gardens are all fabulous. It’s spotlessly clean and I adored the 4 cats who love a cuddle. ||The only downside is the imposition of many rules and the frosty atmosphere. The staff are courteous and efficient but there is no warmth or genuine hospitality. On arrival you are greeted with a list of rules which you have to sign / agree to. (Perhaps a small sign in the bedrooms would be nicer?) On my “tour” of the hotel it turned into more of what you can and can’t do. One day I was able to eat fruit in the lounge / the next day I was told to go to my room. It’s real shame as the hotel is wonderful. It’s a relaxing oasis away from the noise but only a one block away from the shops and restaurants. ||It is the perfect place to stay but needs to remember it’s a hotel with paying guests and not a boarding school!

This is certainly the best value in the area and also SUPER clean. The location is excellent and there is breakfast served on site. They will do your laundry for a reasonable charge. There is free clean water, which is always helpful and appreciated. The owners are very nice people and willing to help when you request. The outdoor showers are cool and they have done a great job at pest control. I saw zero and only a few misquitos, considering the climate - amazing. You can walk to everything in town for eating, shopping and transportation. There are good maps on the wall within the shared common area. It's very pleasant, relaxing and plenty of seating. The only thing to be aware of is no fridge or ice or shared kitchen (so buy or bring a cooler from one of the local stores along with ice you can purchase for $2, otherwise there is no way to have anything cold in your room) If I owned this I would make this improvement, provide small mini fridge and charge a small fee daily to cover electricity. All in all my 8 day stay was really nice - extremely safe place and area. Special hotel and the National Park nearby is TOP TOP on a visit must do along with Manzinillo FANTASTIC bike ride and hike. You must go to Viejo at least once in your life and stay at Pura Vida.

Spent 2 weeks here with my family for Spanish school. Staff is very helpful, attentive, and genuine. The location is ideal for solo and family travelers- PV is a hopping area, and their location is convenient and quiet off the main drag. Across from a soccer field which was fun to watch in the afternoon. The hotel offers excursions and activities daily, which is a great way to know the area. Excited to have established this connection with this place and watch them grow! They will be adding more classroom space on their campus which will increase capacity.

This was the best hotel we had so far! The hosts and staff are so friendly, we had an amazing time with them and they recommended us a lot that we could do in Puerto Viejo! The atmosphere at the hotel is amazing thanks to them! ||||||The hotel is extremely nice and clean and there is a beautiful area where you can meet people or also relax. ||The rooms are beautiful and clean as well! The room service is very nice and gave us a new towel to shower everyday, in addition we were able to get our laundry washed for a very good price!! ||||The location is also more than perfect, you can go to the beach, supermarkets and restaurants by foot. ||||The value for money is very very good! ||||The breakfast is one of the best ones we’ve had so far and only costs 8$ per person! (and you get a lot of food for that) ||||Thanks for everything, we enjoyed our stay a lot and will come back for sure!!!

We had a double room with a shared bathroom which was perfect for our stay- the shared bathroom wasn’t an issue at all, plus there’s a sink in the room. The hotel has an excellent location in puerto viejo town and parking was available. The mosquito nets were very effective and convenient, the air conditioning was also excellent. Loved the hammocks and cats/ dog in the hotel! The staff were also very friendly. The only thing was that there was no breakfast available. We stayed here for two nights and banana azul for one and we regretted not staying at pura vida for the whole trip to puerto viejo, thank you for the great experience!

I didn't enjoy my stay here. It was unfriendly and the owners were indifferent. I am travelling alone and the strict rules of the hotel made it hard to relax and feel at home, (no food to be eaten in communal areas unless purchased at the hotel, no us of the kitchen for tea or coffee facilities- hot drinks had to be purchased from them), I can't remember the last place I've stayed without complimentary tea and coffee, it very much felt like a money making busines and sadly I didnt feel any sense of a travel community. When I had to come back to the hotel I just stayed in my room. It was really sad and disappointing. That said the rooms are v clean, the communal areas are lovely if you just want to sit in them and it looked like the people at their Spanish school were being looked after very well and were enjoying themselves. It just seems that independent travellers are not that important.

I loved this place. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in a variety of things you need or want to know. I also took some spanish lessons while I was there. The spanish teacher is awesome as well. The beaches and restaurants are conveniently located either by walking or bike riding. It was very clean and I always felt safe. ||If you are looking to be right at the edge of being in the center of Puerto Viejo this is the spot. It was a quiet area that's close to everything you want to be near in Puerto Viejo. This is definitely my first & only choice for accommodations in Puerto Viejo.
