This Underrated Mexico Destination Is Set Across 9 Bays — With Laid-back Beach Towns, Bioluminescent Waters, and Charming Hotels

"Perched atop the sugary stretch of Playa Chahue, with mounds of green carpeted mountains, Quinta Bella Huatulco has 44 rooms, seven restaurants, a spectacular oceanfront spa, and a full-service fitness center. Quinta Bella is not directly on the beach, but lies a short five-minute ride away." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We booked a room overlooking the pool with a sea view and paid a premium price. The room was very dated with a sea creature theme. The views were as advertised, all the staff we dealt with were friendly and courteous, the meals at the restaurants were very good and reasonable priced. What had the potential to a pleasant, relaxing vacation was affected by two negatives. The first was the wifi in the room which can best be described as spotty. When there were few people at the resort, the wifi worked reasonably well. However, once the occupancy increase you were lucky to be able to get on the internet, and when you did, it would constantly drop off. Not what you would expect for a hotel that advertised itself as a 5 star. Perhaps the most annoying aspect of our trip was the hotel sponsored concerts on the beach 5 nights a week. Our room faced the beach and we had to listen to the music whether we wanted to or not. The room was not very sound proof so if we wanted to make an early night of it, we were not able to because of the pounding bass that came from the beach area. We plan to return to Huatulco, but will not stay at this hotel.

The hotel was nice, clean, and not too noisy. It’s a perfect place to stay with family or friends. The restaurants around the resort are truly amazing. I took the yoga class offered by the hotel, and it was great—the instructor was fantastic. Every night there was something fun to do with guests, like music, movies, or dancing. Definitely a place I would come back to!

A lovely small (about 30-ish rooms) boutique hotel, perfectly located for a quick cab ride almost anywhere within Huatulco and the town of Crucecita. Service is excellent, rooms are clean and the views amazing. The pools are beautiful. Everything is well maintained. The beach is big and beautiful though the currents (rip and under tows) are strong so not a gentle easy swim beach for families with little ones. The restaurants are very good. (Aroma in particular is AMAZING! - wrote a separate review for that complete with food photos, because it was soooo good!)) About a 40 peso cab ride to at least 3 beaches, 2 marinas and into town to Crucecita. (Total we paid was 50 peso with tip, which at time of writing this 50 pesos equated to $4 CAD).

Loved this quiet boutique type resort .Our room had been renovated was very comfortable and housekeeping did a great job everyday. Even though we were only 3 nights we enjoyed amazing food and service at Aroma and great pizza from Formo. Everywhere you looked the staff were exceptional the pool servers, grounds keepers, pool cleaners and the front desk persons. We are hopeful to return

We would have rated this hotel higher, but a few things need attention. On the up side, the beach is beautiful, clean and quiet. Clean hotel, clean pool. We had a very clean king size room - forest facing. Very clean bathroom. Restaurant and pool staff are all super friendly and attentive.|The main negative was the unfriendliness of the front desk staff. The smallest request was met with indifference. The staff at the desk allotted to arrange tours, don't even look up from their mobile phones to acknowledge your presence. This is possibly due to a lack of proper training in hospitality. You need to up your game to make tourists feel welcome. Even if you cannot speak the language of the tourist, a friendly smile and a simple greeting goes a long way.

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights. Front desk staff was very helpful and cleaning staff was friendly, room was clean and smelled good. Hotel is in a great location.||I rate this hotel a 2, for several reasons:||1. Rooms are dark and depressing, even though newly renovated. |2. No hooks in bathroom. So our towels were hanging everywhere.|3. 1 pool was under maintenance, and we were never informed prior. Other pool was lukewarm like bath water. Not refreshing from the heat.|4. Pool and beach loungers are super low and incredibly uncomfortable. |5. L9st key card is a charge of 160 pesos. Ridiculous. |***6. Everything on-site is super expensive: water, food, coffee, grossly overpriced. Beach service was shockingly expensive...$16 Canadian dollars for an iced coffee? No thank you. We refused to purchase anything on site as we did not want to support this insanity. There were so many people working on the beach, and in the empty restaurants and we kept saying...."if they had reasonable prices, they could sell more and get tips". ||Would we come here again? Absolutely not.

The hotel has a lot of potential, the location is gorgeous, right in front of the beach, and our room was very comfortable. The bed was honestly one of the best I’ve ever slept in. We also loved having our own private little pool, which felt very special. However, there are some important downsides: there was ongoing renovation on one of the main pools during our stay, and unfortunately we weren’t informed about this when booking. Only once we arrived, we found a note in the room. The construction noise has been constant during the day, which definitely impacts the relaxing atmosphere you expect at a hotel in this price range. What’s disappointing is that the prices remain the same despite not having all the amenities available. I feel an honest hotel should either give a heads-up before arrival or offer a discount/compensation when key facilities aren’t usable. It feels a bit sneaky to only mention it after check-in. The Wi-Fi/TV service was also very poor. We reported the issue, and although someone came to check, the promised router for our room never arrived. Staff explained it was due to the weather, but the night before (when the weather was worse) the TV worked fine. We weren’t there specifically for TV, but when the weather isn’t great, being able to enjoy in-room amenities makes a big difference. From reading other reviews, this seems to be an ongoing problem. Another downside was the reception/front desk staff. Apart from the person who checked us in who was kind and informative, the rest of the front desk team treated us with zero friendliness, almost as if speaking to them was an inconvenience. It left a negative impression and made interactions uncomfortable. By contrast, the servers, pool staff, and housekeeping were wonderful, warm, polite, and hardworking. Overall, the comfort of the room and the beachfront location made the stay enjoyable, but the lack of transparency about renovations, the unwelcoming reception staff, and the unreliable in-room Wi-Fi/TV left a sour note. We will definitely return to Huatulco, but not to this hotel.

The hotel is very nice, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the restaurant Terraza Del Mar offers delicious food. Our room had a truly beautiful view, which we really enjoyed.||Unfortunately, our experience was affected by an unexpected incident. My brother was stung by a scorpion (alacrán) in his room. When he reported it to the front desk and showed them the scorpion, he was told it was a common, non-venomous type. He was given Voltaren for the inflammation, which was no help and was still in pain and quite worried.|What disappointed us was that the situation didn’t seem to be handled with much empathy or concern. While we understand that such incidents can happen, especially in certain regions, a little more care or reassurance from the staff would have made a big difference. Even offering to move him and wife to another room or providing a small gesture of goodwill would have shown that they cared about their guests comfort and peace of mind.|Overall, we enjoyed many aspects of our stay, but this incident and the lack of sensitivity in handling it left us a bit disappointed.

Yelp
The service is bad at two of the restaurants, one of them being Otto. The yoga mats that they provide are disgusting! When this was pointed out nothing was done to fix the problem. The cost of the hotel was so much in the end although it was advertised for so much less in the beginning. The rooms did get cleaned in a timely fashion. The coffee stunk! The rooms had no refrigerators in them.

Yelp
Beautiful location, rooms are nice and clean, BUT the pillows, towels, bed sheets, pillows are all VERY VERY OLD, RUFF on the skin, dingy in color from being so so aged! The shower is head flow poorly. My number 1 complaint, sheets, pillows, and towels all have to be replaced, I would be surprised it these items are not over 10 years old.

Yelp
Absolutely loved Quinta Bella.....such a fine resort and the staff went out of their way to make our stay a genuine treat. We choose a King Suite with our off patio private pool....that was the single feature that made me choose the resort. Restaurants on the property were exceptional. Loved our breakfasts on their covered deck watching the ocean. OTTO restaurant was one of the best of our whole trip. Outstanding food and service.

Yelp
This is definitely a nice place to stay for visitors to the Huatulco Mexico area. The rooms are basic but comfortable, the pools are lovely and the poolside service absolutely cannot be beat! We had all kinds of drinks and snacks during the three days we were there, And frankly we were blown away by how friendly the servers were! The hotel is also within walking distance to the central area and Mercado. Really the only downside was the staff at the front desk. No matter who was there, they seemed very put out every time we asked for a bottle of water. They just don't seem to like tourists. In our opinion, people with that attitude shouldn't be working the front desk. But all in all, it's a decent place to stay.

Yelp
*LATE REVIEW* I surprised my fiance to a trip to Mexico for the first time! So we did not know what to expect. We went in the beginning in July. Hands down, although Mexico is basically cheaper than America in almost everything, Quinta Bella was not just affordable, but also came with QUALITY service and QUALITY FOOD! This type of hotel would cost thousands in America! At this rate would definitely keep customers coming! Pricing is affordable, not too cheap to where it is skeptical, and not too expensive to where I'd look elsewhere. The whole experience of beachfront, our own private pool, easy access to hotel pool and bars made the experience an everlasting memory! The private beach where you can have a nice long walk made our experience in Mexico overall the best trip outside of country, so far. Quinta Bella is extremely close to local restaurants, activities, convenience stores, etc. If I were to come back to Huatulco, I will definitely book this place as long as it doesnt cost an arm and a leg. Thank you to Quinta Bella and staff, especially the security and front gate attendants! They were friendly and I just felt it was more of a personal/friend connection rather than just a business. I 100% recommend. FYI, looks like they are building more rooms, and pools and maybe other activities/bars at this hotel. So to all new guests, I hope this is up and running because it looked beautiful even during the construction process.

Yelp
I went there to enjoy my New Year's. I made point to book a resort to have full access of amenities cones with the resort like restaurants, bars and pool. The hotel closed pool/ beach access, bars and restaurant for the guest who stayed there, paying 220$ a night without a notice ahead. If I knew it I did not book this place. The owner of the hotel threw a private party that non of the guest have access. I had to go to an other resort to spend my New Year's Eve which was not easy to get an access. I returned to my resort and the private pArty still went till 2:30 am. Window shaking music and karaoke continued. All of their gust had no concept of social distancing and masks. Crappy place ever.

Yelp
My Husband, Son and I had a wonderful stay at the Quinta Bella, it is a small quaint location which makes it perfect for enjoying the resort without fighting crowds. The entire staff was attentive and provided great customer service our entire stay. The downside is not bringing in your own drinks, it worked fine for us but it does cost more. Extremely close to town, just a short cab ride away.
