A bit disappointing. We live next to a real eco resort in Portugal and found this place by searching for places like it, but it does not compare. While the grounds are beautiful, calling this a bio hotel is a bit of a stretch and maybe a bit of green washing. The food is certainly not all bio or even mostly bio (example: the eggs at breakfast are category 2 - 0 being bio and 1 some outdoor access, so these are caged hens) and is average at best. There is plastic being used everywhere and the pool is chlorinated. The service is uninspired and at some point the dinner attendant didn’t understand that my partner wanted her dishes (which were both still more than half full) to be packed to the room and trashed it instead. The rooms and facilities are somewhat outdated and faded, and the area around the hotel is a bit run down. Lastly (though of course to no fault of the hotel), if you’re expecting Funchal weather please note that this is in elevation and often cold, wet and windy.
