A delightful historical building with lots of character. We had a lovely bedroom with its own garden. The hotel grounds are spectacular in themselves. There is a 9 hole pitch and putt course. The swimming pool looked lovely but we didn’t get chance to use a lot of the facilities as we only stayed one night.

What a magnificent and historical hotel. Very grand with amazing gardens. The main par tof the hotel has the look of history and shares it with pictures and information as you walk the corridors. The staff are extremely nice and super helpful. Rooms are spacious and lovely and comfortable and our had a stunning view of part of the gardens. Breakfast was amazing with multiple dishes to choose from. Extremely pleasant stay.

Quinta das Lágrimas has such an important and interesting place in Portuguese history, which we enjoyed learning about during our stay. The old house and surrounding gardens are beautiful and romantic, even in the winter. Our room was in the spa wing, and it was large and comfortable, but the “Queen” bed was actually two twins pushed together (which is common in Europe), the shower flooded easily, and the bathroom door was extremely difficult to lock and unlock. As Canadians, we were also surprised to learn that we were not allowed to use the indoor pool without a swimming cap.

The setting is beautiful, inside extensive gardens. The older public part of the hotel is impressive, and the place drips of history.||||It’s an old hotel, and the rooms feel it. The room was a great size, but missing a full length mirror, which seemed like it could be problematic if you were attending an event on site or for some reason needed to be aware of your overall look. Bed was comfortable. There is a spa, but I was only there for a day and didn’t use it. ||||We ate dinner in the bar, small menu, food ok. There is a fine dining restaurant as well. Breakfast was ok.||||For us it was a one night stay while crossing the country and the grounds made it a pleasant visit.

Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas is a historic mansion with a large garden. I booked it in a rush, without fully realizing this unique feature—but it’s impossible not to be impressed. I stayed in one of the suite rooms on the ground floor, which included a separate entrance hall, a spacious bedroom and bathroom, and even a small private garden. The furniture matched the hotel’s historical charm and was also quite comfortable. In the evening, I dined at the Arcadas restaurant located inside the hotel—it was as elegant and exquisite as the hotel itself. The next morning, I explored the garden right after waking up. Part of it is reserved for golf, but the more enchanting area is where trails wind through the trees and lead you up the hills—perfect for a bit of trekking. I spent half a day in nature and got a great workout. Although I only stayed one night, I can confidently say this hotel ranks among the top three I’ve ever experienced. I would absolutely love to return. Lastly, my compliments and sincere thanks to the wonderful hotel staff.

An absolutely beautiful hotel with an expanse of gardens and woods. The staff are incredibly good and attend to any need. We stayed in the contemporary wing, but we viewed one of the rooms in the old building. So much to see around the grounds. It's a few minutes' drive across the river from the center of Coimbra. Make sure to see the chapel and the library.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel. The staff were amazing. Super helpful and very friendly. Our room included breakfast. We also had a late night dinner and cocktails at their casual restaurant. In both cases, the food was excellent and the service top notch. The building and grounds were charming and very traditionally decorated. My only beef is that our room felt dated. For example, there were no electrical outlets on either side of our bed. This is the reason why I didn’t give this place a 5-star rating.

Beautiful, well maintained grounds. Incredible service. Saunas and spa onsite with both indoor and outdoor pools. We had a garden terrace view room which was lovely, spacious, and clean. About a 15 minute walk to the university area. Two restaurants onsite and breakfast service in the mornings until 10:30 am. Would definitely recommend and visit again!

Yelp
Coimbra Portugal - HoteL Quinta das Lagrimas is a spectacular if not a bit out of the norm. This is someplace that needs to be experienced to understand. My arrival @ Hotel Quinta das Lagrimas was entering through a set of iron gates that had to be opened on the inside to allow us to enter the estate. After entering we drove down a drive towards the hotel/estate where a gentleman in a suit waited for us & greeted us as we pulled up to the the Hotel/Estate. He greeted us and brought all our luggage up the stairs into the entry foyer where 2 people sat checked us in gave us a brief history of the estate before it became the hotel. It was at the Quinta that in the XIVth-century Prince Pedro and Inês de Castro lived their forbidden love affair. Legend says that it was here that Inês cried for the last time, while being pierced by the daggers of the killers sent by King Afonso, Pedro's father. Ines was the of Portuguese decent & the lady in waiting & the mistress of Prince Pedro (heir to the throne). Pedro & Ines had 3 children together before she was killed by assassin's sent by the king who didn't approve of their relationship. The Hotel is beautiful but somewhat tragic history as Ines was killed here. It's a beautiful estate but a bit isolated from the town of Coimbra but within walking distance. It was cool to experience this estate but a little a sad history.

Yelp
What are the first two things you require of any hotel? A quality bed and a good shower. The shower was fine, but the bed was the lumpiest piece of crap I've ever experienced. I used to play a video game called Moon Patrol when I was a kid, and this bed reminded me of that landscape. Turns out it was some sort of extra feather thing that was added to the mattress. We were so tired by the time we went to bed, we didn't really explore this until the morning and the place looked full, so we did not call to the front desk at 11 at night to try to sort it out. Not to mention, we had already opened up the suitcases, etc. Our room was supposedly one of the nicer ones, so this was particularly disconcerting. When I brought it to the attention of the staff in the morning as we were checking out, they looked at me like I was crazy and basically said "oh. ok. we'll tell housekeeping." WTF? I showed them the picture on my phone, and still nothing. It was a really astonishing reaction in what is supposed to be a five star hotel. The interior of our room was also tired, and in need of a refresh. Yes, the building exterior and gardens are lovely, but again, the first rule of hotel club is friggin comfortable beds! I'm cool with quirks like no elevator (pack or select your suitcase accordingly, due to stairs), but get the basics right! And if you don't, at least offer something to compensate--even if it was a discount at the attached spa--which would have been helpful after sleeping on that crappy bed. The most outstanding thing was breakfast--which we were pleasantly surprised about after reading someone's review slamming the breakfast here. We loved the breakfast: all kinds of juices, fruits, meats, cheeses, breads, sweets--and all in a lovely setting. We really couldn't have asked for more. Also, this was the one hotel that had a mini bottle of port and two pastels de nata waiting for us in the room, which was nice. There was also ample parking, though not lit at night, even though there were light posts. ??? Wouldn't likely stay there again, but rather at a place on the other side of the river we found while exploring Coimbra: Sapeintia Hotel. That looked updated, fresh and lovely from walking by their back patio and front of the hotel.

Yelp
Very nice resort. Staff members are very helpful and friendly. Most of them speak English. The main hotel building is an old beautiful structure on the grounds of a wonderful botanical garden. The history of this country house goes back to the 1300's. The hotel has a full spa, 9-hole golf course, beautiful pool area and gourmet restaurant. Great place to spend a few days to relax and enjoy the Portuguese country side and hospitality. It is located within walking distance of the walled city and University of Coimbra grounds.

Yelp
The Hotel is a beautiful Quinta with a romantic history in the middle of a golf course. The quinta was remodelled into a a four star hotel and a modern annex has been added. The room rates are in the upper end and you need to pay quite some extra if you want to stay in the Quinta. The property has seen better time and is in many places in need of renovation. While this sometimes adds to the patina of the historic buildings its a clear minus for the around 2000 build modern part (where we were staying). Where there is renovation its mostly sloppy, eg the showerheads cannot be raised the above head because the connecting tubes are too short. Everything feels run down and old. The minimal breakfast adds to this impression. Overall imho its much to expensive for what its worth. They have nice mugs on sale though.
