How to Visit the Island of Raiatea in the French Polynesia

"If convenience is a top priority, consider the recently renovated Raiatea Lodge Hotel, just a short drive from the island's airport and main town. However, don't think of this serene property as an "airport hotel." Nestled on 2.5 lush tropical acres, teeming with flowers and coconut palms, the property comprises a main building painted in a soft pastel aquamarine hue, which houses the hotel's guest rooms and a two-bedroom family suite, a restaurant, and a bar. Seven stand-alone bungalows with private patios and spectacular views of Bora Bora are nearby and also available to book." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Poolside at the Raiatea Lodge Hotel The Raiatea Lodge Hotel located on the island of Raiatea is one of French Polynesia 's only 3-star hotels (most are budget pensions or luxury resorts). Guests can enjoy comfortable and stylish accommodations in an intimate boutique hotel that features 15 rooms. Room amenities include balcony views overlooking the garden and pool, rain showers, air conditioning, sumptuous bedding, a television and free WiFi. Make sure to wake up early to see the sunrise over the lagoon from your balcony and hear the birds singing early in the morning. Moreover, they offer a range of free activities, like snorkeling in the lagoon, kayaking to the nearby Motu Miri Miri and cycling around the island, as well as guided tours for a fee. Don't leave without having an artisanal breakfast or piece of fresh fish from the lagoon in their restaurant, or a cocktail enhanced with fresh local fruits and flowers from their bar."

Very nice hotel, clean, well-kept, staff is great.... Everything from welcoming introduction and cold towel to the front desk and service at the bar and restaurant. Food in the restaurant was very good. Free bikes are old but usable. We rented a car from them which was totally adequate for a day. Great snorkeling and sunsets. Free Kayaks available and can kayak out to an isolated small island and snorkel. Pleasant and helpful staff on the dock. Also had a local Polynesian dance group in one evening and local buffet which was nice. Pool was very nice as well. There were some mosquitoes especially in the evenings... Should bring DEET. Of note had to cross the road to get to the ocean but not an issue. Dock walk over the coral to a small boat house where could snorkel or take the kayaks from.

First I want to acknowledge Elodie who helped me with our initial reservation. Their website initially said they were booked on our dates. I emailed them and she replied that they had one room left and offered me options re their half boarding etc. ||They picked us up from the airport and arrived at the hotel maybe about 930am. After a long night flight and not a lot of sleep bc of the turbulence, we were pleasantly surprised that our room was ready at check-in.||We chose the half room boarding w breakfast and dinner. Definitely worth it and the food was great. You can’t walk to other restaurants or anything bc there’s nothing else nearby.||We rented one of their rental cars that they have onsite for $60 for a day. Drove the island, visited the OPOA hotel. We had lunch there. While the hotel was nice, there is NOTHING nearby there, at least w the lodge, you’re closer to town. Also, the food at the lodge was better than opoa. we looked into staying at opoa and I’m so happy we chose the lodge instead.||They have a dock at the end of the beach where you can book jet skis and take a kayak out for a motu. We booked a day trip to taha’a and ARE tours picked us up- 500% recommend them. ||The only downside to this hotel that we found was when you leave the room, you take your key out of the holder which powers the electricity- turning your ac off. So when you come back to your room after a long day- your room is hot. However, we closed the blinds in the morning before leaving and that made a huge difference. ||Also, breakfast starts at 7. That’s not terrible but a lot of activities start at 8- and pickup is even earlier, so we felt rushed a few mornings. The breakfast is smaller, but definitely supplies adequate options to start your day. And again, the food is fantastic. ||The rooms are great, beautiful views and pool. Would definitely return.

The food was so delicious and scrumptious, especially the breakfast buffet options. PLEASE NEVER STOP MAKING THAT DELICIOUS VANILLA YOGURT AND THISE HEARTWARMING BAGUETTES. ALSO, NEVER STOP SERVING THAT DELICIOUS BUTTER. The hotel was really nice and had live entertainment. It was so beautiful.

We enjoyed the Raiatea lodge hotel very much for our short stay. The food was delicious, the staff attentive and the services were great. Loved the lounge chairs by the pool especially! If you are in Raiatea, this is a great spot with great staff and amenities.

Kind service, fantastic location, good rooms with a view. Everyone at the lodge was kind and the New Year’s Eve party they hosted was fun. Hotel was across from reef location with easy snorkeling. We were upgraded to a lagoon view room which had a nice balcony. The grounds were nice. Breakfast is standard continental and dinner had multiple choices included in the room rate.

Great place to visit around raiatea and tahaa. The staff is very welcoming and eager to helo.|Accommodations are ok, breakfast too, all match a 3 star hotel.||An advice: dont book Room 16, upstairs, at the very end of the building, it is just above the kitchens , if like me touareg sensible to noise from people coming and going from the kitchen, vibrations from the kitchen ventilation and noises in all the room until 9:30 p.m.||Besides that i reccomend this place

What a wonderful experience! We stayed at Raiatea Lodge for two nights before a sailing charter and everything was great! The staff at Raiatea Lodge are welcoming, kind, and quickly feel like friends! They are very accommodating and really care that you're enjoying your trip. We rented cars from the lodge for one day to explore the island... so easy and convenient. The food was plentiful, beautiful and delicious (except for the veggie burger, which was really a bland tofu burger - I recommend vegetarians stick to the pasta & salad). The rooms were clean and comfortable. I highly recommend Raiatea Lodge if you're visiting their island!

We stayed here 3 nights. Were lucky and upgraded to family bungalow. We had the half board which included breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was disappointing, and next time we would definitely rent a car and not be stuck with the restaurant as only option. The pool is nice and well maintained. Internet didn’t work well. Also it is quite far from uturoa, so the bikes aren’t really an option and taxis are not cheap. The free kayak and snorkel is nice, but this isn’t the best spot for either. There are not many options on Raiatea, so this is probably your best bet if you want a resort style experience.
