The few positive aspects of this hotel are negligible against the numerous negatives, as detailed below. ||Whenever I travel, I try to book direct because eliminating the middle man, so to speak, should be a win-win situation, as the hotel wouldn't have to pay booking fees to a 3rd party, and I could get a better rate.||Apparently the management of this hotel lacks common sense though.||In Jan 2025 I contacted Hotel Real de la Sierra in Mazamitla in order to book direct. They quoted a 25% higher price than that offered for the same room via a 3rd party! Moreover, they tried to pressure me to book at the higher rate right away by saying there was only one room left, when in fact the 3rd party website showed that all their double rooms were unoccupied! Lying to my face, and doing it stupidly.||So obviously I booked the room via a 3rd party website, with payment at the hotel (757 Mxp vs 941 Mxp quoted by the hotel). Then I contacted the hotel asking if credit cards are accepted. The person who responded said s/he only deals with quotes and reservation, and gave me another number to inquire about forms of payment. Clearly the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Completely disorganized.||Upon my visit , I repeatedly tried to get a logical explanation for the lack of common sense from the management, to no avail. I tried to negotiate a better rate for longer stays, and was told they would honor the price offered by the 3rd party booking site. But for the same price the 3rd party booking site offers bonus points, so why would I book directly with the hotel??? Makes no sense at all.||Rosalia, the hotel manager, and her husband are simple but shrewd people , and they obviously believe that foreigners are dumb. I asked if there was a bus to Valle de Juarez; the manager's husband told me there was no public transportation to Valle de Juarez and told me to hire a taxi (250 Mxp), when in fact there are many buses going back and forth daily for a fraction of the price (30 Mxp). ||I admit they gave me one of their best rooms, but it's still shabby, with an odor of insecticide. The room door locks are flimsy privacy latches like those used for bathrooms, not proper door locks. The window didn't close properly, and at night, when temperatures dropped to 45 F in January, it felt as cold as sleeping outside. ||There was A LOT of noise at night, and when I mentioned it to the manager, she shrugged. I didn't sleep more than a couple of hours a night, every night. And that was not even during the weekend, when I expect the noise levels increase. |The Internet disconnected continously, couldn't even access my email without interruptions.||I tried to be as friendly as possible with the staff, but I didn't feel welcome. Their smiles were forced, more like grimaces. The smile didn't reach their eyes, which regarded my every move with suspicion. They obviously dislike, or envy, "gringos".|Marcos, the night receptioning was the most unpleasant, frowning all the time; never looked me in the eye, never greeted me despite my efforts to be pleasant and courteous. He should really get out of the hospitality business! ||Before checking out, I took photos of the room, bedsheets, and towels because I read reviews from people who were charged for damages, and I also requested that the maid check the room, to make sure that everything was in order, because I didn't want any surprises. I advise you to do the same if you choose to stay there.||This was my first visit to Mazamitla, where I'll need to return often for personal reasons, so I inquired at other hotels in town, and sure enough, Real de la Sierra is overpriced. I made note of a few other hotels that offer much better quality accommodation at cheaper rates because I will only return to this hotel when the hell freezes over.

I deducted a point for the bed. My back was aching every night. I deducted a point for cleanliness. I try not to be too picky... but it was bad. Hair was on an extra blanket in the room. We started feeling bites and were uncomfortable at night. If you are looking for privacy... you won't get it here. We could hear people talking downstairs from the room. If you choose to stay here... bring bed bug killer/spray, and a healthy back. The location is awesome, and the food was great. We rented a car which was great to visit places around here. Without a car, you will be forced to accept tours but will be restricted to their schedule. We left the room one day early because we couldn't handle the bed and filthyness. We didn't get a refund... it wasn't worth the hassle. We just left. That's how bad it was. I am unsure where all those positive reviews came from and their reliability.

Had to climb stairs to get to rooms. Outside parties and roosters crowing, so not quiet.

Definitely is the worst hotel for the money they charge. Almost $200.00 USD by night |And the hotel is like 2 stars. No heather, old and frayed towels. Smell fresh paint to strong. No hands towels. Is is not the best option. The location is good only 2 blocks of the center. The room was in the second floor, for old people is no easy to upstairs with luggage, and is not help, only. Y yourself

Yelp
made a last minute reservation, asked for a ground floor room, was told the rooms are on 1st floor, because of Husbands mobility. got there, nothing on that floor was clean, took us up to 2nd floor ,which was 4 half flights of stairs. got back from dinner, which every thing is only 2 blocks away,, not one drop of hot water. for showers. breakfast was meh....later no hot water again. the staff was nice. but, don't bother. many hotels have as good as location. I understand Mexico is Different... but lack of a shower for 3 days was not my plan.
