We couldn't get into the hotel we wanted, so the travel agent put us here, but staying here was an amazing experience. Like most places in Germany, it is an old building that has been retrofitted with modern conveniences like a tiny elevator and fixtures and bathroom accoutrements, yet this establishment has many Bavarian flourishes--antlers and swords on the walls, statues, centuries-old paintings, things like that. The owner, Mr. Reindl, gave us a spontaneous tour of the building, showing us the "wellness oasis" with a couple swimming pools, a sauna, massage room, the hotel's storage facilities and so forth, ending up in the bar and bistro and restaurant. He was very kind to do that. Our room had a fantastic view of the mountains. It was pleasantly cool outside , in the 60s F perhaps, even though it was June, and one can see snow on the distant mountains. The hotel is located within a mile of the shopping district downtown around Marienplatz and Zugspitzestrasse--there you'll find many stores, restaurants, weinstubes, book stores, Italian eis places, fashion outlets, and so forth. They offer wifi by the hour, but they also have a computer under the stairs for free if you want to check your email, and that was more than adequate for our needs. The service at the hotel is top notch--they will bend over backwards to accommodate you. Some of the employees are working on their hospitality degrees. There is parking in the tiefgarage below ground, but man is it tight in there. I recommend you let the porter park and retrieve the vehicle for you. I heard the staff speaking with guests in German, Russian, Spanish, as well as English, plus that incomprehensible Bayerisch dialect, so it's a pretty cosmopolitan experience. We enjoyed the breakfast buffets in the mornings in the bistro very much, and recommend it. The food was elegantly displayed and there was a wide selection of items. I usually went for the cold cuts, rolls, and apricot yogurt. The evening menu featured many Bavarian dishes that were intriguing and deliciious such as the medallions of venison. The food came in silver covered dishes and they wait on you like you're Caesar. All the service made me a little uncomfortable, actually. This was the most elegant place I've ever stayed, and I'd be happy to stay there again.
