Reisen (Stockholm, Sweden) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Reisen sits right on the waterfront in Stockholm’s Old Town, with views across to Skeppsholmen and the 19th-century sailing ship Chapman. The building dates to 1617 and has lived many lives: coffee house, tavern, literary haunt, before becoming a hotel. Rooms vary in character; some have vaulted ceilings or 17th-century brick, others offer wide water views. The Tjärn spa, built into the city’s old defensive wall, features a vaulted plunge pool, and one brick still bears the footprint of a woman who helped lay it over 300 years ago. The Royal Palace, narrow lanes, and independent shops of Gamla Stan are just steps from the front door." - Tablet Hotels

Our recent stay at Hôtel Reisen was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The hotel itself is stunning—perfectly blending 17th-century history with modern Scandinavian luxury. You can’t beat the location; being right on the water in Gamla Stan, we were just steps away from the Royal Palace and the charming cobblestone streets of the Old Town. The rooms were impeccably clean and cozy, and the breakfast buffet was one of the highlights of our trip (don’t miss the fresh pastries and local Swedish specialties!). What truly made our stay exceptional, however, was the service. We want to give a massive thank you to Miguel at the front desk. He truly went above and beyond to make our visit memorable and special. From his fantastic local restaurant recommendations to his genuine warmth and attentiveness at every turn, he made us feel like VIP guests. It’s rare to find service that is both professional and so deeply personal. If you are looking for a place that feels like a home away from home with world-class service, stay here. We can’t wait to come back!

We stayed at the Hotel Reisen for 4 nights on 2 separate stays. The hotel is situated in a prime location along the Eastern Gamla Stan waterfront. It is walking distance from several great restaurants and shops in Gamla Stan as well as the Central Rail Station and the business district. The front desk representatives make an excellent first impression: Extremely friendly and helpful. We worked with Edita and Muim during our respective stays. Both were great. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed (toiletries, refrigerator, guest slippers and even a set of binoculars for viewing across the waterfront). They were very attentive to details. The bathroom was spacious and had excellent shower facilities. The entire hotel felt updated and modernized. There were a few nice perks for guests such as providing umbrellas and holding some of our luggage while we traveled to other parts of Sweden. Important to note: The hotel had several amenities that we did not try (i.e. restaurant, fitness center, pool, etc.). Still, we had an excellent lodging experience at the Hotel Reisen and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Stockholm.

The best location ever. Close to everything. Staff was nice and pretty helpful. Room was small and the bathroom even smaller. Hard to was your feet, every time you bent down you hit the shower door so it opened up. Beds were absolutely fantastic. Slept so good. Fabulous breakfast.

We had a fantastic New Year’s Eve dinner at Restaurant Reisen on 31 December 2025. Every dish was delicious — from the Lobster & Caviar Tartlet and Balfego Tuna Tartlet, to the Surf & Turf, Beef Wellington, and Baba au Rhum dessert. Huge thanks to the chef and the team for an unforgettable evening! We stayed at this hotel from December 30, 2025 to January 2, 2026. The room is small but quite comfortable. Everything you need is provided: slippers, a bathrobe, an iron, and a kettle. There is a sauna on the lower floor that guests can use. Unfortunately, the access to the sauna goes through the bar, which is not very convenient. The breakfasts are good. And of course, the hotel has an excellent location — the main city attractions are just a short walk away.

Perfectly located in the old town, with great views over the river and the city, we had a fantastic stay at the Reisen. We loved the old world charm of the area, a very short walk to the main Christmas market. ||The market is very modest but still a nice atmosphere. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants all within a 10 minute walk of the hotel. We are so glad we chose this hotel and area, being only about a 20 minute walk from the city. It’s also only a 25 minute walk from the Arlanda Express train station, so no need for a cab when you arrive by air. The Arlanda Express is the perfect way to get from the airport to the city, about £36 return and it only takes 18 minutes. They run every 15 minutes like clockwork.||Robes and slippers are provided at the hotel, with plenty of toiletries and towels. We upgraded to a room on the 7th floor, with Stockholms largest Christmas tree right outside our window, perfect. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of fruit, hot options and pastries. ||If you’re planning a trip to Stockholm the Reisen should be top of your list. Christmas in Stockholm is a lovely time of year to visit, with lights and Christmas trees everywhere. ||Thank you to the management and staff for making our trip to Stockholm a special one.

The hotel's location is fantastic. Close to several tourist attractions and restaurants, all easily accessible on foot. The hotel is also well-served by public transport. Breakfast is superb, including a lovely variety of hot dishes, fresh pastries and bread, fruit, cheeses, and cold cuts. A welcome drink of non-alcoholic sparkling wine was a delightful surprise. Everything was impeccable, with special mention for the thoughtful little touches. The staff is incredibly courteous and attentive. A truly wonderful stay!

I had a great stay here in August. Our room was super clean and comfortable, plus we really enjoyed the view of the water. We loved the location since we were in easy walking distance of all the places we wanted to visit. Unfortunately it was a little cold for us to use the indoor pool since it wasn't heated but the spa area was peaceful and relaxing in general. I would 100% be happy to visit again.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I booked a single room and received a 160 cm bed, towels for two, and complimentary toiletries such as a toothbrush and toothpaste. The room also had a good hairdryer and a large, nice TV.||||The only downside was that the lobby area could be quite noisy, and the cocktail bar felt a bit chaotic at times. I also believe there was a nightclub underneath my room, so there was some noise late in the evenings and at night. However, this is not something the hotel can control.||||The breakfast was excellent. Sparkling wine was served, and there were good vegetarian options available, which I really appreciated. I didn’t try the food in the bar, but I noticed that vegetarian options were offered there as well. A small suggestion would be to ask guests if they prefer plant-based milk or regular dairy milk for their coffee.||||The bed was very comfortable, on the softer side, with lovely bedding. The bathroom was quite small but had a good shower with strong water pressure. The location is great, with convenient access to both the city centre and the Globe Arena, and it was easy to reach public transport.||||I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with lots of character right at the edge of old town, part of WOH. Our room had an in-room sauna which was a first and unique experience. There is also a sauna and cold plunge in the basement. Hotel staff is pleasant and helpful and respond quickly in Whatsapp. Excellent in room amenities as well. Only downside is there is no AC. It was blazing hot every night we were there. We slept uncomfortably every night for 4 nights. We opened a window but it's ridiculously loud outside (even with the window closed).

Yelp
Wonderful Hotel and staff! But one thing you should be prepared for... Between 5:30am and 7:30am every day of the week, there are trash trucks and restaurants getting ready for the day and waked us up. Beautiful area and great location but if you are not an early riser, don't do it. This is my only complaint. Otherwise it was great. Had a wonderful Nordic spa and front desk staff is amazing. Good luck!

Yelp
Great hotel and location in gamla Stan! Wish we would've had a chance to enjoy the sauna, but the rooms were very cute. The only negative is that the mattresses were way too soft and there was a decent amount of noise coming from the alley in the morning. However, the jazz bar, the decor, the staff, all wonderful!

Yelp
I was undecided about how to star this review as there were some excellent parts of our weeklong stay and some terrible ones. I landed in the middle. We had wonderful communication with the hotel prior to our stay and they put us in a beautiful corner suite that was absolutely perfect for our family. The issue is that the bathroom had a terrible urine smell and we let the front desk know the next morning as the smell got progressively worse. They cleaned it while we were out and left some thoughtful treats for our children. However, they left the cleaning brush with the urine in the bathroom so it ended up worse than the initial problem. We needed to talk to housekeeping and detail out that we wanted it disinfected and the brush removed. We were out every day for full days and returned at night so didn't notice until late that the smell got worse again days later. There was clearly something wrong with the bathroom and it was unfortunate that we were in the room for so long with this issue several times. However, the rest of the hotel and stay was wonderful. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning with a lovely friendly staff in particular a server from Thailand who made us feel so welcome each morning! The room itself was a great setup but had a strange temperature issue where the room with the bathroom and the pull out couch was super hot and the rest of the room was nice. The weather was ok so the lack of AC was not too bad. The location was excellent and within easy access to the ferry which we took advantage of several times.

Yelp
We stayed here on our first night in Stockholm and were very much pleased by the ease of checkin and checkout, the quality of the room, and how conveniently it was to everything we wanted to see. This hotel is located in old town and Gamla Stan and all its great shopping and restaurants are right outside your back door. Out your front door is an incredible view of Saltsjon. To the side gets you up close and personal with the Royal Palace. I mean what more could you ask for? Combine this rock star proximity to literally everything with a rich history of the building dating back to the 17th century with several different historical aspects on display for guests. The hotel has a lot of nicely preserved features as well as appropriately renovated ones. Our room was very nice (small by American standards but completely normal for most of Europe) with a fabric headboard and comfortable bed linens. The bathroom and shower were beautiful and modern. We also appreciated how quiet the room was and we slept great. Everyone from reception was very friendly and helpful and we also enjoyed the nice breakfast. Parking is not complimentary and fills up fast so be prepared for the parking olympics if you get here at the wrong time. However, other than that we would absolutely stay here again on a future trip.

Yelp
What a great hotel experience overall! Let's save the best for last and do cons first: CONS The first night was not good, but only at 2am. We awoke to hear loud thumping, mechanical in nature (we hoped). My husband can sleep through more annoying noises than I can, but we both had trouble getting back to sleep. We called downstairs and first got a seemingly inexperienced, unhelpful (though polite) woman who then talked to someone else. We got in touch with him, and his main idea was for us to switch rooms for that night. We didn't really want to do so at 2am, but he then said that there was a no-show, and we could have that room for the night while keeping everything in our original room. That was workable, so we went back to sleep in a different room on the same floor, without the noise (but with a cool view!). This employee volunteered to us that we'd have everything in the minibar comped, as well as the first night. A few days later, upon checking out, the staff didn't seem super aware of this, though they weren't resistant to it at all. There could've been more communication in this sense. Facing an alley, we had one morning where we were woken up by super loud trucks unloading and beeping at 7am. This wasn't the case each morning though! Another con is actually the breakfast! It had a decent variety, for 30 USD, but the items didn't appeal to me that much or taste that great. I am not a picky eater but didn't like the assortment. The waiter/host had trouble locating our room assignment, which was odd and showed a lack of communication (to some extent), but then he realized it was because of the brief room switch. PROS The location is incredible! It is right in Gamla Stan, the old town, with beautiful, charming buildings. The island can be touristy but we were not in that part. The hotel is closer to the waterfront, with different ferry and boat tour options very close by! Also, the royal palace is super close and hard to miss. Coming from this location, you can easily get to Sodermalm and Normalm/central Stockholm areas with museums, shopping, parks, etc. The hotel itself is designed in a tasteful, modern, elegant manner, without being stuffy or haughty in feel. Our room had beautiful paneling and everything was laid out in an easy manner. The bathrooms were modern and well updated. (A tiny criticism is that the flush buttons were entirely behind the lid, when opened, so that was a mild design flaw.) For $40 per night, we upgraded to a room with a sitting area and a sauna!!! The TV has plenty of English language channels with Swedish subtitles (shedding light on how the Swedes are SO GOOD at English!). Even random shows on Animal Planet, Discovery, and the like, as well as a Canadian police procedural about a detective and his BFF of a German Shepard (??) are featured on this TV. Also, it has Netflix. THE BED! I like a bed to be more soft than firm, and most hotels lean toward firm. Not here! This bed was soft and pillowy - you just sink into it. I cannot say enough about how magical it felt. It was very nice for them to comp the first night and the entire minibar (which featured a delicious canned gin and tonic). That is something they came up with, and it was very kind!

Yelp
There is nothing not to like about Hotel Reisen. Warm comfy rooms right in GamlaStan, the old town, close to the palace and the Nobel Museum. Close to Tradition, wonderful Swedish restaurant, and with its own fabulous restaurant, the Reiss. Extravagant smorgasbord style breakfasts, best cappacino. Relaxing, elegant sauna and cool dipping pool. Rooms are quiet and have snuggly duvets and top quality Jensen mattresses. All staff members are friendly and helpful. Yonni the bartender will be your friend and serve you carefully prepared cocktails. Right across the street from the archipelago ferry. I want to live at the Reisen!

Yelp
What we liked: The location: Placed only 100 meters away from the Royal Palace and next to the waterfront, the hotel is as close to the old town as you can get. The style: The Reisen Hotel matches the style of the days when clippers crossed the seas and merchants met regularly to discuss their business. The dark wood and the warm lighting make a comfy contrast to the other ultramodern hotels in Stockholm. The Food: There is absolutely nothing negative to say about the breakfeast. There was a plenty offering of fresh and tasty food - including the best bacon we ever had (seriously, how did you did that?). We also tried the complementary seafood buffet which is offered in the Christmas time for the evenings. Holy moly - the Swedes know how to make seafood. Astonishing. What we did not like: The room: The room would have been nice - a couple of years ago. Now it is in a desperate need for a renovation: some of the lights did not work, and there were some damages (dismantled coathooks, missing handles for some drawers, etc.). The worst issue is the placement of the toilet paper holder. When sitting down for a nice procellain cruise, you will ALWAYS bolt the roll out of the holder and behind the toilet with your shoulder. Nothing of that would be expected in a hotel of this price range. Also, we were surprised as the room does not offer any storage space for clothes. The drawer is filled with an iron and the matching ironing board. At least you can iron your clothes which are wrinkled because you cannot take them out of your suitcase. Nice move! The service: Seriously, forgetting to service the room in a etablissement like this? This is a no-go. Also, we experienced the reception staff having not much information and low motivation to help the guests with their issues. Want to book a massage? Ask tomorrow again. Want to reservate a table in the hotel-own restaurant for dinner? Please ask directly there. Yeah great, this is we booked a four-star hotel for. In conclusion: this hotel could be absolutely great. But it has a lot room to grow at the moment. For this, we cannot recommend it despite the great location and the fantastic breakfeast.

Yelp
Had a great stay here! This hotel has the charm of old Stockholm with the guaranteed quality of a Hyatt. Our room was spotless and the front desk staff and bartenders were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently and centrally located in Gamla Stan, so it is in the heart of Stockholm's old town shops and cafes, and is close to attractions on other islands.

Yelp
Right in the center of it all, it's hard to find a better located place to lay your head than the First Hotel Reisen in Gamla Stan (Stockholm's Old Town). The slightly tired rooms leave a bit to be desired but they've got nice views out to the water. As I've come to expect among hotels in the Nordics, they do a very good breakfast buffet replete with cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, yogurt, cereal, eggs and plenty of bread. If location trumps it all for you and you don't plan to spend loads of time in your room whilst visiting Stockholm, this is a good pick.

Yelp
Stayed here for 4 nights in May 2016. The hotel is waterfront in the old city and has a good business style. The rooms are good sized for Europe, but small by US standards. Had a room overlooking a side street. The privacy was limited. The room had a bathroom that is OK set of facilities. The front desk is very friendly and provides great set of services. The room price includes breakfast with a great buffet with warm and cold items. The buffet is plentiful and the food is of good quality. It can be a bit crowded, but in general a great set. The rooms include free internet.

Yelp
What a fantastic hotel! First, they are very friendly and accommodating. We booked a 2-bed room months ago, and because they were booked, they upgraded us to a deluxe room. Unfortunately, it only had one bed. It was our only option, and I was not happy about it. However, they worked on getting us a 2-bed room for our second night stay. They upgraded is to a 2-bedroom suite. Granted, it was a nuisance to pack and switch, but it took great effort of the staff to make us happy. Also- the breakfast is amazing!

Yelp
The location is the best asset of this hotel. Right on the water in Old Town, loads of cafes and shopping at our doorstep. Check in wasn't until 3:00 which we found inconvenient, but they stored our luggage as we familiarized ourself with Old Town. Our room was ample sized, but without a view. The water pressure is weak, the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is included and delicious; a wide array of meats and cheeses, fruits, yogurts with garnishes, salmon and local specialties. A little pricey, but again, worth it because of the location, ferry, bus and tram right outside front door.

Shahara I.

Yelp
Service isn't great. They ran out of tea at the breakfast spread. And when I asked if it could be refilled, she recommended that I go all the way up to my room to make some. The muffins tasted like eggs. The handyman barged into my room without knocking or any kind of notice. I never asked for his service.

Yelp
In the old town of Gamla Stan (which sounds like it should be outside of Kabul) is this little place near the Royal Castle. If it weren't -12° C outside I'd say it was lovely just out of the hotel. A little walk along the riverside takes you to the hipster hood or walk left out of the hotel and find a pretty park and a Max burger. Either way, the staff is friendly, the breakfast nice, and the rooms are cute and have a healthy selection of english channels on the TV...which Is what I spent too much time watching as I dare not venture outside in that bitter bitter cold.
google avatar

Yelp
Yeah the rooms could be nicer but why. Ridiculously perfect location for exploring the city (especially Gamla Stan) and the craziest breakfast smorgasbord I've ever had. Helpful, friendly staff, good location, and you can go heavy on the liver pate.

Yelp
I spent a lot of time researching hotels and am always nervous until I show up! First Reisen exceeded our expectations. We came on our 5 year anniversary and had an amazing time. It is very conveniently located in Gamla Stan, but far enough away from the loud bars. It was very quiet and peaceful! Our bathroom was huge and have a very nice-size sauna. We used that a lot! Huge full breakfast was included in our stay. It included a hot and cold bar (eggs, sausages, bagels, fruit, smoothies, toast, and all kinds of little deepish creations). We didn't ask too much of the front desk but they were friendly. Overall, great service and stay!

Yelp
Great location and wonderful service. They were able to help answer our questions which included booking us train tickets to Copenhagen. The rooms are nice. The bar is fantastic with wonderful service as each drink is prepared with care.
