Hotel Residencial Salema

I returned to Hotel Residencial Salema with a friend for a weekend in October 2025 having stayed there alone for 10 nights a couple of months earlier because I enjoyed the first stay so much. Salema is such a beautiful and relaxing spot and to me this hotel is a gem. The accommodation is simple, clean and comfortable and the housekeeping team do a great job. Every member of staff was polite, friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the continental buffet breakfast which was charmingly quaint and the kitchen staff kept everything topped up throughout the mornings. This really is a great place to relax and recharge and I would recommend it to solo travellers. I swam in the sea every day and enjoyed walking on the beach in the evenings. The little shops and restaurants are all within a stone's throw of the hotel. I brought my book down to the hotel bar at nighttime. Valentim, who runs the bar, is a gentleman, a total pro at his work and clearly beloved of many returning guests. When I travelled with my friend in October we visited the other bars in Salema which were very good but we had the best time in the hotel bar with some other visitors, some locals and Valentim. I fully intend making this trip a regular in my calendar.

Decent hotel, small room, and not many amenities, but good value. Salema is a nice beach town (though the ocean water is too cold to swim!). We enjoyed the proximity to Fort Sagres and walking on the beach.

Nothing fancy but it’s a nice little beach getaway. The staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean. No mini fridges in the room (which seems to be the same with most of the places we’ve stayed at in Portugal). Our balcony with ocean view is large enough for us both to have lunch on. There’s a new mini market across from the hotel where we were able to buy salads, sandwiches and beer. Perfect for a low key meal. Can’t beat the location of the hotel, just steps from the beach and restaurants.

Clean hotel, great location, right out of the 70's. The continental breakfast was very good each morning.

Excellent location right across the street from Salema beach. All rooms have views (at least side view). Rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast is good (I like yogurt, fruit, whole wheat bread, good coffee).

We had a great 3-night stay at Hotel Residencial Salema. It was a perfect location for exploring the western Algarve. The breakfast was always well stocked. The room was clean and the balcony was a nice place for a drink at the end of the day.

Great location. Very basic hotel but ok for a long weekend. Be sure to walk down to the beach, turn right and find the dinosaur footprints in the rocks near the stairs!

Very close to the beach and to cafes, restaurants yet quiet. The road noise one floor up seems to be from cars on the cobbled street rather than the cars themselves and the cars are infrequent. Clean rooms, just a bit tired/dated, with tiny balcony. Simple breakfast, easy check in. The bar is closed on Sundays. The proximity to the beach is the main selling feature.
