Hotel Resol Kyoto Kawaramachi Sanjo

Great base for exploring Kyoto, plenty of restaurants / bars / shops within walking distance, also well linked for public transport. We stayed in a standard double room as a couple and found it to be on the larger size compared to some rooms we had during our time in Japan - but still cosy as most hotels here are! Breakfast was great with a good selection, something to please even picky eaters. We made use of the laundrette in the basement which was easy to use and reasonable priced. The hotel overall was beautiful and very clean, we were even lucky enough to enjoy a performance in the lobby on check in - we would definitely return!

Hotel was a 8 minute walk from the station but it's sheltered all the way. It is located opposite Uniqlo and GU so it was super convenient for my boyfriend and I to shop and head back immediately to drop the things down before heading out again! There is also Round1 about 3 minute walk from the hotel and a familymart about 5 minute walk from the hotel.Hotel staff are so polite and they speak fantastic english! There is an amenities booth right beside the lift too and IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED (facial cleanser, toner, mouthwash, face mask, herbal relief mask and so much more). In the room there's even a hair dryer and a hair straightener 😭Room was big enough to open an oversized luggage! Do also take note that there is no cleaning of rooms but the staff did mention that you may request if needed. It was so good I immediately recommended this hotel to my friends that are going to Kyoto when i was there. ❤️

Pros: Cozy but enough space to open your suitcase and has everything you need. Coffee, tea, and toiletries are self-serve in the lobby. A matcha set is included in the room. Brilliant location close to Pontocho, Sanjo station, and the Kamo river. During sakura season, the nearest trees are just steps from the hotel. Cons: No room service for consecutive night stays, they'll just drop off new towels at the door. Noise from the hallway was somewhat easy to hear through the door, however it was never a problem over my three nights there.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially if you’re traveling as a couple with a baby. We were very disappointed with several aspects of our stay. First, rooms are not cleaned daily due to the hotel’s “ecological” policy—but not even the bed was made or the room tidied. There’s no safe in the room. While it’s technically not listed in the amenities, I assumed it would be standard. The biggest letdown was the breakfast. It was genuinely bad—served in the basement-level “Italian” restaurant with very limited and low-quality options. The pictures of the food that are presented for the hotel are not close to reality. I STRONGLY recommend booking without breakfast. The room design is decent, but that’s about the only positive. We ended up leaving after just one night, even though we had several more nights booked. The staff didn’t ask why or show any concern—just noted that it was non-refundable (we didn’t even ask for a refund). Overall, the experience was disappointing and definitely not worth the price.

Dont pay so much for this hotel!!!!!!!! Apart from good location nothing else.. dirty bathroom, towels smell bad and feels like hotel does not invest into cleaning at all. They forgot to give us floor bath towel at all. No place for rubbish and they don’t clean room everyday. Everywhere dust. Room is too small. Staff not too friendly. From good aspects, air conditioning and they provide even relaxing plasters for legs after long distance walking for free downstairs. There are too many hotel options next to this and Park Hotels (chain) is next door for nearly same price. We staid in this chain in other Japanese cities and those are incredible…. Don’t choose this dirty hotel…

Very good location, right off of the busy street. Quiet stay, clean room, great service by staff. Depending on the night there was activities downstairs in the lobby. We met a Maiko and then we were able to practice Caligraphy with a master FOR FREE! Wonderful experience. Only downside was smaller room, but even that wasn’t too bad, as there were ample amenities provided and teas in the room. Stay was so great! We will use Hotel Resol for the rest of our time in Japan.

Great downtown location with a perfectly compact clean and comfortable doublebed en suite room. The lounge area space on ground floor had a nice quiet feel to it with free hot drinks and a good seating area. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The Jaoanese writing experience was a super free bonus!

We stayed here for five nights from the 20th April. I see previous reviews noting how small the rooms are. Nonsense! It is Kyoto and no room is enormous. I am (solidly built) 6ft 5” and my wife and I were more than comfortable in the double bed provided. Reception staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. We loved the living lobby. Rooms do operate with limited service but that’s fine - an unmade bed will not hurt you. Take the one minute to do it yourself! Leave towels and rubbish outside your door and it gets taken and swapped - Most hotels we stayed in throughout Japan operated in this way. Would recommend! 🙇
