I can report with great pleasure that somethings just do not change !||12 years ago my wife [ a French travel expert] arranged a winter break for us and three other couples in the Basque region of SW France, it was great fun.||||I was keen to go back to one place in particular, the village of Espelette. A typical Basque village in the foot hills of the Pyrenees, some 30 kms from the seaside. Famous for its Piment [chilli] ||||Euzkadi is one of the hotels we had been to before and I am genuinely thrilled to report that it is still really good. We arrived to a smile and welcome from the Manageress who explained where their private, gated hotel parking was, a few minutes walk from the hotel. Parking in Espelette is not easy and secure parking is most important. Peace of mind that the car and contents are locked away is a real bonus.||||We booked a table for two for dinner and it was all absolutely faultless, terrific food, good wine and a reasonable price, a charming waiter who attended to our every need.||||Our room was large and comfortable, air conditioning /extra heating available. TV, en suite bathroom and all for €80. Breakfast was an extra €10, and unlike many French breakfast tables, we had meat, cheese, yogurt, freshly squeezed oranges, home made jams, that morning’s Baguette, Brioche and Croissant. A bargain for €10.||||This charming Basque village is kept spotlessly clean, nearly all the houses are decorated in the Basque colours, of white with deep red shutters. This uniformity is all part of the charms of Basque villages. I would have no hesitation in recommending a Basques Break if you are ever in the region.
