I thought Raisin was Swiss for something else, until I arrived at the hotel & saw a bunch of grapes at the hotel logo signage. Who knew!
My travels to Lausanne Switzerland have taken me here for 2 nights at the Hotel du Raisin. The reviews listed here are for the restaurant only, but I stayed here at the hotel portion and did not dine at the restaurant portion, especially since there were a handful of restaurants and other dining options I can choose from - including the McDonald's and Starbucks nearby! My arrival was through Geneva aeroport then the train to Lausanne, then the local metro to Riponne-M. Bejart train stop. A short walk commences and you're there to the hotel. The Hotel du Raisin is not your typical airport, considering that the lobby is basically the restaurant. I literally walked past it when I was trying to find it till I realized where it was! Hotel du Raisin sports about 3 stories of hotel rooms and the hotel office administration. The hotel doesn't seem like it was grand or didn't stick out. It felt like some apartment building with an attached restaurant / café. Not that it was bad, but that's how the physical outside appealed to me when I arrived. The entire experience was rather good. Felt like a loft rather than an actual hotel, but you do what you can, especially when you're in Lausanne Switzerland!
Hotel du Raisin is located at the Place de la Plaud in Lausanne. Quite a nice area to be in, where there's a handful of restaurants and shopping options to choose from in the immediate vicinity. Or you can venture into downtown Lausanne and in Ouchy and have a blast! Parking here can be a wee bit tricky, since I don't know if there are areas of parking you can park it. Since I did use the train, metro, and walking to get around Lausanne, I can't tell you how it is around here. I'm sure there is a parking area or garage around the hotel. I just haven't found it just yet. The Hotel du Raisin is my headquarters for the 2014 Lausanne marathon & half marathon that happened on October 26, 2014. Yes sir, can't come to Europe without having an excuse to race, I mean sightsee and enjoy. With that in mind, the Hotel du Raisin accepts the major credit cards, which is always a plus. This hotel does not employ the plastic electronic keys we all know and love. It's the industry standard in most parts of the world, but some properties like to keep their properties rather unique and use metal keys.
The room itself was large enough, but small in some standards. It was a standard room with 2 double beds. I have forgotten the room number, but I stayed on the 2nd floor, since I had to go up 2 flights of stairs to get to the room. The shower was pretty good and the room was very clean and organized. The wifi signal in the room was excellent and required a password. The password can be found in the room, next to the bed on an informational letter to the guest. The bed itself was pretty good, as I did get some decent sleep during my stay. The check in process was rather unique, since I had to go through the restaurant to check in. They found my reservation tacked on the restaurant wall and proceeded to pay with my credit card. I was handed my room key and proceeded upstairs. It was quite interesting, but it was good. I'm glad that they had the reservation, versus not having it at all. The weekend in Lausanne Switzerland was enjoyable and very cozy in the room. The prices here are comparable with other properties in Lausanne, but it was about 139 CHF per night. It was the closest to Place de la Navigation, where I needed to be anyway, that was cheap enough.
The check out process was okay. Sunday night was a ghost town, so when Monday morning came, I just dropped off my room key in front of the hotel office door, where a sign read "Please return room key". And so, I did just that. Overall, I would stay here again, if my travels come back to Lausanne again. Be farewarned though, Lausanne is not cheap, but the area and town is quite nice. I felt safe here as an American tourist traveling abroad. I would definitely recommend staying at the Hotel du Raisin, if you don't mind the apartment style condo room units. Nothing like the suites of Sheraton or Hyatt though!
