Love this hotel! Why? It was QUIET even though the train was next to the hotel. I didn’t hear it. The manager is outstanding and a true representative of what hospitality should be. He made you feel welcomed and he was personable. The spa was clean and quiet as was the pool area. The town of Zermatt is a 5 minute walk. The surrounding mountains are iconic. We had a blast! Stayed here in July 2025.

Great place to stay with your family. We stayed in a deluxe family room and it was wonderful. You could see the Matterhorn everyday from the balcony, and kids loved the room with mezzanine floor and also a giant hammock type of space made by ropes. We chose half board, and breakfast and dinner were also very nice. They were very flexible with our dinner as well, so we did not get bored staying 4 nights there. Wonderful place with well trained nice people runing the place.

We stayed for a week at Hotel National for a skiing holiday via Inghams. We had a lovely time. Staff were friendly helpful and polite. Food is of a high standard and plentiful. Our room was traditional in style and the bed was large and comfortable. The mountain railway line was behind our room and trains ran regularly but it wasn’t a problem. The south facing balcony was great to sit out in the sun. The room was very warm but you could open the windows and alter the dial on the radiator. The position of the hotel was great - opposite the Sunnegga ski lift, near the ski hire shop and on the edge of the town, only 5 minutes walk to the shops. Zermatt is a lovely town, if expensive and the ski area is served by a very efficient fast lift system and mountain railway. Whilst it didn’t snow whilst we were there, the piste was kept well groomed and the skiing was great. It really is a resort for expert skiers and we watched with awe many skiers ‘fly’ down the black runs with ease! All in all it was a fabulous holiday and Hotel National made it a truly special experience.

This hotel exceeded our expectations, and the staff were truly exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially the convenient location—everything was within easy reach, including ski rental shops, the slopes, a grocery store, train station, the old town, as well as various bars and restaurants just off the main street. The service stood out across the board: the front desk team provided all the information we could possibly need, the shuttle driver ensured our luggage made it safely to our room, and the bartender delivered outstanding service—introducing us to new drinks we genuinely enjoyed, even though our usual American options weren’t available. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with modern bathrooms. While the main room had a simple and minimalist feel, it added a certain charm that we appreciated. The spa was the highlight of our stay and the best we experienced during our trip. We especially enjoyed the plunge bath, steam shower, and wet sauna. The no clothing policy seemed flexible, as guests approached it in their own way. Would highly recommend!

What a wonderful stay at this hotel for our ski trip. Perfectly located in town, very close to the lifts; bars; shops and restaurants. A lovely welcoming hotel, traditionally furnished with a great spa/pool and ski boot room. Nice, spacious rooms and a lovely dining area, and chill out room with a bar etc. A great breakfast with lots of choice, both buffet style and hot options. The evening meal was 5 course of good quality. We booked with Inghams and the food was included in our package, we just had to pay for evening drinks on top. Bastian was a great Manager, very friendly and helpful, with lots of tips on the local area. We would definitely stay again.

Fabulous hotel and excellent staff. Great location with spacious rooms, some rooms with a great view of the Matterhorn. Great pool, sauna and steam room plus plunge pool. We had included breakfast with our stay and the spread was good. Best asset of the hotel is their staff, We got snowed in for a few days in April when Zermatt experienced a snowstorm and the hotel staff (Bastian and his crew), went above and beyond, to keep everyone happy, well fed and served. Excellent service, with a smile. Wonderful people!

We had a truly wonderful experience at Hotel National Zermatt. The hotel itself is beautiful, with charming Alpine decor, comfortable rooms, and a perfect location near the train station and lifts. But what really stood out was the exceptional staff – incredibly kind, professional, and always willing to go the extra mile to help.||||During a recent stay, a severe storm disrupted travel in and out of Zermatt (read more here). Despite the challenging situation, the staff remained calm, attentive, and incredibly helpful. They kept guests well-informed, assisted with travel arrangements, and ensured we were as comfortable as possible during the unexpected delay. Their genuine care and hospitality made all the difference.||||Highly recommend this hotel not just for its amenities and location, but for the truly top-notch service that makes you feel right at home – even in a snowstorm!

This is our second time at Hotel National and we booked again for next year. The family rooms (if you can manage to get one, they go quick in high season) are super - note that the mini family room is really for families with one child are really young children. The service is great in every way. The ski room was renewed and is really great. We had the half-board and the food is excellent. There is the menu of the day plus the normal menu you can order from. The kids menu is also quite extensive - enough options for a week. We also used the saunas this time. super - not busy, very relaxing. Special recognition for the front manager, Shaun. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a good one. We already look forward to next year!

Yelp
Originally we had booked a couple of rooms for a night at this place back in 9/11/2021. A couple of weeks prior to that date, COVID was surging in Switzerland and we, being in a risk group, were advised not to travel to Switzerland. Hence we cancelled all transportation and hotels, including this place. We called the hotel to cancel and asked for our options. They offered us a credit, which we now wanted to take advantage of. It turns out that they could not find any record of the promised credit and are not willing to honor the credit. Is this the Swiss way of doing business? Fortunately not! All other businesses gladly made arrangements and, considering the difficult circumstances, honored their offers. But not this place. Watch out for dishonest business practices at this place. Given an opportunity they will not treat you fairly and in Swiss way. This place is a huge disappointment. NB: I am Swiss, and I am very disappointed how this places gets away with their dubious practices and, hence damages the Swiss image.

Yelp
The Hotel National in Zermatt may be the quintessential Zermatt lodge. It is comfortably furnished with rustic wood decor and furniture. It feels very much like an old European ski lodge and has amazing views of the Matterhorn from the room balconies. When we first arrived at the hotel with our group, everyone was out on their balconies in awe of the view. It was absolutely specular! Zermatt is a very walkable town and the only vehicles they allow in town are small, electric shuttles. The Hotel National is a short, maybe 10 minute walk, from the Main Street and all the shops. It is well worth your time to walk around town. Make sure and check out the historic district and the old buildings they've preserved. There is no air conditioning at The Hotel National, so it may be warm during the summer. We stayed here for two nights and June and it didn't get warm at night but cooled off later evening. The Hotel National is right by the train tracks, so it can be a little noisy in the morning when the trains are the most active. There are also noisy birds around 4:30am, which woke us up. If you sleep with your window open you're going to have an early morning wake-up call.

Yelp
Our family was very happy with this hotel. We stayed for 5 nights over Christmas. The staff was very accommodating, helpful, and interested - frequently asking if we needed anything. Because we were staying over holiday time, we had arranged every lunch and dinner and did not eat at the hotel, although the restaurant looked good. However, every breakfast was at the hotel. It is a charming ambiance, with the Swiss wooden touches. Its a buffet with hot, cold, omelet station, fresh squeezed orange juice and unlimited espresso drinks. There is a surprisingly well equipped spa. Indoor pool was enjoyed by our family. They had a nice jacuzzi and several of the european cold/hot treatments: there were sequential foot soaks, one for your arms, an "aroma" room, sauna, steam, and a funky shower that had 4 programs that included mist, water dump, multi zone shower. BEWARE: as an American, they have a tradition (and signs advise patrons) that they encourage nude use of sauna and steam. We did not partake, and I was a bit alarmed about an adult male I did not want my children exposed to. There is also a warm, inviting bar area with real fire place with real logs. Rooms were not overly spacious but adequate. Got daily evian water bottles and daily fresh fruit. Both our rooms (and i think all of them) had AMAZING views of the Matterhorn. We had looked at some of the higher price options, like Cervin, and were all so happy with our hotel and those others were significantly higher in price. The location is just across the street from the Sunnegga gondola and steps away from the bus to take you to the base of the other gondolas. Everything in Zermatt is walking distance. Lovely time, would stay there again. Highly recommend.
