Look at the other reviews. Lots of happy return customers, My third visit. We stayed 2 nights, while wine tasting, came by ship from Melk, left by train to Wein. Wonderful family run place with a warm Austrian country ambiance. The rooms are simple. It's the country after all. Breakfast was very good with a lovely local sparkling wine. We had one dinner in the garden. Schinken und Spargel for my partner. Cordon Bleu for me. desert? a wonderful homemade warm apricot curd strudel.||heavenly food

The owners of the hotel made us feel right at home. We arrived later than expected but the owners waited for us and greeted us warmly. Breakfast was at the enchanting garden with views of God’s Finger. The deluxe room is very spacious and have views of the Danube and ruins. Highly recommend staying here, we love it!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of August/beginning of September for our exploration of the Wachau Valley. The hotel is in an ideal position: tucked into a side street close to the river and the main shopping area. Our deluxe room with a balcony was simple (small shower and simple furnishings) however we had a separate sitting area and my overall rating was a 4+++. The staff at this hotel are so welcoming and helpful! We genuinely felt like we were part of the family. The front desk, our wonderful waitress Bianca, and even the owner stopped by our breakfast table or dinner table to check on us and see if we needed any help with our plans. The outside terrace is so beautiful and the food divine! We hope to return some day and would not hesitate to stay again!

This hotel - a building steeped in the history of the Schendl family - reflects everything that is best in privately owned and run hotels. The owners live 'on site', they are available to help, advise and welcome guests 24/7. Whatever type of holiday you need, whether it be cycling, walking, driving or just 'mimsing around' - they can give you the best advice on how to achieve it. The rooms are extremely comfortable, beautiful and tastefully furnished and your needs are seen to even before you would appear to have voiced them!.||The food is excellent. Dining is an experience to remember, particularly if the weather is fine and you are dining in the exquisite gardens. If you come by car there is parking in the hotel's garage - this is essential in this tiny village where the roads are narrow and there are lots of tourists.||It is a hotel you wish to return to, again and again and indeed many do. This reflects just how highly Herr Schendl and his staff are regarded by guests from other parts of Europe, from America, Australia and even from the Island of Skye!||We'll certainly return for what will be our 30th visit to this perfect oasis and retreat from a crazy world!

We stayed here 2 nights after three days in the Austrian Alps. This is a lovely, quiet hotel in the centre of the village, Durnstein. We were greeted by a warm welcome. Lovely big room with view of church and Danube River. The manager was able to give us fantastic tips on cycling routes and organised our cycle hire. Great local sights and attractions. Lovely family run hotel with excellent breakfast. Location was superb. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it. TIP: contact hotel directly for availability as booking.com said it was fully booked and it wasn't. Lots of trips can be taken from here but we recommend hiking and cycling Danube.

I have been to the restaurant only. If you are in Durnstein, definitely give it a try. Food is delicious and their perfect white wine can cool any kind of outside heat. Eat in the garden and don't skip the expresso.

I don’t write reviews often but the visit we just had was absolutely worth a sentence. It is not only the perfect location in the middle of the historical town and wine-yards, professional service, equipment etc. but what made me impressed most is the ambiance of the hotel, long history of owners inheriting the property from generation to generation. The current owner is a very nice person with excellent knowledge of the area. He will give you exhausting and fitting advises of anykind you need. He his very keen on what he his doing having a gentle sense to people following old-school gentleman habits. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this one will forever stay in my mind.||Bottom line: the ambiance of the hotel, a few chestnut trees as well as many flowers at a garden where breakfast is being served made me feel like in old French films from 70th years.||I wish myselft to come back one day again and wish old the best to the owners’ faimily to have luck with the business now and in the future.||I would just recommend more backup pillows for people needing more pillow. But i am sure you will get them on demand without any problem.|

Yelp
This hotel has been in the same family for 200 years and the pride of ownership is clearly visible. The proprietors come from the old school. I don't think that I ever encountered them that they did not bow. Although my wife and I both speak German, the proprietors also speak English. They gave us excellent site seeing advice for both Dürstein and the area. There is both a hotel and a restaurant. We stayed at the hotel for three nights and completely enjoyed our stay. The room was incredibly comfortable, large, lots of light, and very quiet. The bathroom was large and the beds were comfortable. The hotel itself is old Austria with lots of wood. The breakfast was fantastic, including everything you could possibly imagine for an Austrian hotel breakfast. The hotel has about six or seven parking spaces in a garage, so if you're bringing a car you should reserve a spot. Most people seem to arrive by train if they are staying overnight. The first time you try to find the hotel it will be an adventure. You have to get right into Dürnstein which has very narrow streets. The hotel is through an archway near the church. There are a lot of day trippers so driving during the late morning or early afternoon is an adventure. The restaurant had an excellent menu of local specialties. Every meal we had there was excellent. The only problem is that the restaurant closes about 4:00 PM on Saturday and except for breakfast for hotel guests isn't open at all on Sunday. We left after breakfast on Sunday so I don't know what else was available in Dürnstein or whether you'd have to drive 10 minutes to Krem, which is a little larger.

Yelp
A delicious family hotel just in the heart of romantic Durnstein, neigbouring with the Durnstein Closter, very quiet and spiritual location on the Danube River. Nice & friendly & cozy, with comfortable rooms (views either to the garden, or to the Durnstein ruins), with a hotel garage, and with a reasonable price. In the hotel restaurant, please try a fantastic home-made cuisine (Wiener Schnitzel, Apricot Strudel, Home-made Broth, ...) accompanied with a great Wachau wine (try Domaine Wachau Loibenberg, Gruener Veltliner). If the weather allows, enjoy the garden restaurant. Mr. Schendl is a great gardener, he has flowers everywhere, and he even grows his own wine grapes and in the right season (September/October), he serves them for breakfast. Another highlight is an apricot nectar and a home-made apricot marmalade. We have been going back and forward in the last six years, usually in May with the bikes and in September/October for the wine tasting trips and boat trips, and we are always very happy here.

Yelp
Sanger Blondel is a charming restaurant with a great back story dating back to King Richard's imprisonment in Durnstein on his return voyage from the Crusades (think Robin Hood). Durnstein is a great stop in Austria's wine country. Sanger Blondel had great food, great service and class.
